Luxury In Buenos AIres

The Park Tower is quite a luxurious experience for the traveler to Buenos Aires. On checking in, you are led to a desk in the lobby where a staff person quickly takes care of the formalities; all these persons know English. They always ask if you want some coffee or tea, and have delightful chocolate candies to snack on. The room I stayed in was on the 21st floor, was rather large, spanking clean, and had a great view. It's king-sized bed was extemely comfortable, and they had lots of channels in many differnet languages, including English, on the TV. And there was a small stero system for those that preferred music. A generous plate of fresh fruit comes with the room, a homey touch. The large bathroom was mostly marble and glass, had two sinks, a full tub, a large shower stall. Lot's of nice gels and lotions, stacks of towels, and terry-cloth bathrobes. As I said, all quite luxurious. The staff seems to straighten your room out several times a day, and at night my bed was turned down, the stero was playing music, and bottled water and chocolates were laid out. And one thing I likes was that you could open you window and get fresh air while you slept. In the morning, from 6:30 until 11 or so, they have a full breakfast buffet in the third floor dining room, which, with floor to ceiling glass, overlooks the busy rush hour. The selection is wide, including crepes, eggs of various types, several breakfast meats, a dozen different rolls and pastries, several different kinds of butters and jams, and, of course, fruits, juices and cereals in much variety. Everything I tried was tasty, especially the egg tart I had. And the staff is very attentive at getting you coffee, tea and juice. Newspapers in Spanish, English and Italian are offered. All this comes with your room. And even if you have to leave before 6:30, coffee, rolls and juice are provided in the lobby so you can get at least something. A In the lobby they have a lounge area where you can order refreshments and snacks, and they have a formal tea there late in the afternoon. While I did not try it, the spread of cakes, pies and cookie and so for they put out looked mouth-watering. At 5PM a harpist plays melodies 'til 7, and a piano player starts at that time. I personally liked the harpist better, the music is so relaxing, and I had a glass or two of Argentinian wine there late in the afternoon. The service was most attentive and classy. The one thing I did not like about the Park Tower is that they do not open their own restuarant for dinner. One advantage to this hotel is its location. The Retiro subway ("subte") stop is two blocks away (warning: in Buenos Aires one block is along way!)and it is connected to the Retiro train station and is near the main bus depot is one block away, and the boats which go to Uruguay are a 15 minute walk away, in case you don't want to catch a cab. So if you want luxury, I would recommend this hotel.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Across the street from the hotel is a touristy restaurant decked out in - you guessed it - flags and neon - called Nazarenas. But their beef is absolutely superb. And be sure to visit the wine cellar - its huge.
