In 1893, The Pfister opened its doors and became one of the nations grandest hotels and a "palace for the people." The Pfister Hotel is a 307-room luxury landmark hotel in downtown Milwaukee, featuring 24-hour room service, concierge service, valet, and indoor pool and state-of-the-art fitness center, both with great views on the 23rd floor. Elegantly restored to its original splendor, The Pfister's lobby features a heavenly ceiling reminiscent of the hotel's original skylight and the word "Salve," The Pfister's way of greeting everyone with a warm welcome. The Lobby Lounge has been the place to see and be seen for over 100 years. Over 80 original oil and watercolor paintings grace The Pfister's grand hallways, lobby and restaurants. Begun by Guido Pfister, this is the largest collection of 19th and early 20th Century Salon and Genre works on permanent display in any hotel in the world. The Pfister has been honored with numerous awards, including the AAA Four-Diamond Award for the past 27 years, the "2003 World's Best Business Hotel Award" for Milwaukee by Travel & Leisure, and has been named to the Cond? Nast Traveler "Gold List of the World's Best Places to Stay."
Most recent user reviewsScore 4 out of 5 An 1890 Hotel that has been maintained Robert, Omaha, NE, 2006-10-01 Extensive list of small, quality restaurants along with most major entertainment venues.A class operation. The tower needs remodeling which we were told is in the plans. Expensive for what you get, but old world charm frequently is. Score 2 out of 5 Beware of Customer Service Lauren, Atlanta, GA, 2006-05-09 It is a very beautiful hotel and the amenities are wonderful. The staff however, is less than stellar. Then my husband went looking for a vending machine to get a drink. He went to the 23rd floor, called and asked where one was, they said the 22nd. It was not there this went on 4 times until my husband gave up with no drinks in hand. When we checked out I told the front desk which I was then told "We do not have any vending machines on any of the floors". Needless to say we weren't impressed with the staff. Years ago Customer Service meant something to this hotel, obviously it no longer does. Score 5 out of 5 Grand old hotel Anonymous, Madison, WI, 2006-03-05 In nice weather, walk to the art museum, or to Cathedral Square. In fact, walk around in general--much to see in this older section of the city. For a get-away weekend in which we intend to spend time soaking up the amenities of the hotel as well local attractions, we love the Pfister. Excellent concierge service, delicious and beautifully presented room service, live music in the lounge and at their sumptuous Sunday brunch, glorious chandeliers and other decorations evoke an opulence similar to that of the Palmer House in Chicago. Our only dissatisfaction is that the excellent restaurant that used to be in the lower level (Celia's) is gone to make way for a spa. Score 5 out of 5 personal attention from concierge Anonymous, Chicago, IL, 2006-03-04 Mo's Steak House Velvet Lounge for martinisThe Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee remains the beautiful and elegant hotel that we remembered from 20 years ago. The service is exemplar. The concierge was extremely helpful and offered personal attention and great recommendations. Location, comfort, beautifully re-decorated rooms, plush bedding, great views, room service is excellent with friendly staff, wonderful bars and restaurants plus a great pool and exercis room. Definitely going back! Score 5 out of 5 Very impressive hotel for any traveler lori, 2005-11-27 Check out whats going on at the Bradly Center a short cab ride away. We love the brewerys they have to offer especialy The Rock Bottom where you can sample all there wonderful beers. The Phister in Milwaukee can be completely summed up as breathtaking. From the moment you vallet park you are treated like family, I chose to believe royalty though.. The moment I walked in and saw the grand entrance I knew I could get very used to the treatment and beauty. The room was beautiful and tastefully decorated from the 1800's when our wing was built (according to the knowledgable and cordial bell boy) old world yet modern feel. Marble, heavy draperies and antique wood furniture was enough to make me think we got the wrong room for the low price. The location could not have been better since you walk right outside and restaurants and entertainment are all buzzing around you. Overall, I wish they had one in every city and my search would be over. Score 5 out of 5 Historic charm Elizabeth, St Louis, 2005-08-13 Great places to eat within a four block radius. Cross the Milwaukee River and you have entered a delightful experience to stroll the River Walk. Rock Bottom Brewery was great...service, food and drink. The Cuban restaurant not far from the hotel...great! Couple of coffee shops not far from the Pfister made for a morning wake up call. The Third Ward ....walkable from the Pfister Hotel. GFirst trip to Milwaukee. First stay at the Pfister. Lovely....staff was helpful, courteous, and made the stay so attractive that I would go back. I have already recommended the Pfister to someone else. Score 4 out of 5 Review john, Omaha, NE, 2005-08-06 Old historic buildingsScore 5 out of 5 Great hotel experience.
