During your Sea Tac vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Odyssey Maritime Discovery Center
Sort of an interactive promotion for modern fishing and shipping, this facility at the north end of the Seattle waterfront is aimed primarily at kids and has more than 40 hands-on exhibits highlighting Seattle's modern working waterfront and its links to the sea. Exhibits include a kid-size fishing boat, a virtual kayak trip through Puget Sound, and a live radar center that allows you to track the movement of vessels in Elliott Bay. In another exhibit, you get to use a simulated crane to practice loading a scale model of a cargo ship.
Seattle Asian Art Museum
Housed in a renovated Art Deco building in Volunteer Park, the Asian art collection places an emphasis on Chinese and Japanese art, but also includes works from Korea, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and the Himalayas. Among the museum's most notable pieces are the Chinese terra-cotta funerary art, Chinese snuff bottles, and Japanese netsukes (belt decorations). One room is devoted to Japanese ceramics, while three rooms are devoted to Chinese ceramics. The central hall contains stone religious sculptures of South Asia (primarily India). The museums hosts frequent lectures and concerts.
Seattle Central Library
It isn't often that the library is considered one of the coolest joints in town, but Seattle's new downtown library, opened in summer 2004, is such an architectural wonder that it has been the talk of the town. Now, not all that talk has been positive -- but I'll leave it to you to decide whether you love it or hate it. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground with this giant glass cube and its diamond-patterned steel girders and strange angles. Regardless of your reaction to architect Rem Koolhaas's design, you can't help but notice that in a town known for its gray skies, this library abounds in natural light. There are also colorful spongy chairs, floors of bamboo and brushed metal, carpets printed to look like plants, and a garden designed to meld with the carpets. Oh, and if you need to use the Internet, this place has hundreds of computer terminals, too.

Okay Stay

John

The room was comfortable and clean, needed some maintenance and the service was less than mediocre. I requested that the broken phone be replaced the day I arrived and two days later upon departure the phone had not been replaced. The Red Lion is close to the Airport but is also the pickup point for airport parking, which resulted in busy activities around the hotel.

Poor Restuarant

Anonymous, Austin, TX, 2006-06-27

While generally the hotel provided what I needed, the restaurant left a lot to be desired. It did not seem to be managed very efficently. While there was a short wait to be seated, once we were seated, we waited for over 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order. A larger party of athletes came in after we did, were seated & served all before we received our food. The menu was rather limited & the food was mediocre at best. All in all, it was not a pleasant experience.

Great Airport hotel

adrianne, Los Angeles, CA, 2006-06-22

The SouthCenter Mall is a short drive from the hotel and very easy to get to. Everything you need, including the cinema and some good restaurants are nearby.

The Red Lion Hotel at Sea-Tac Airport was a terrific choice for me. I was in the area on business and the proximity to the airport, major thoroughfares and shopping was a perfect match for my itinerary. I actually stayed at 2 different locations, both nice; however, if I had known how nice this hotel and staff were, I might have made my reservations-- for the entire trip --at this location only. I thought that highly of it. Great staff, lovely rooms--nice furnishings, very well appointed. In all honesty, all my expectations were exceeded! I'll definitely stay there again when in the Seattle/Tacoma area--whether for business or leisure.

comfortable

The Red Lion Hotel Seattle Airport was much closer to the airport than I thought it would be. Yet, it was surprisingly quiet! The bed was very very large and with many pillows. I liked the furniture, large desk, and the colors used in the decor were relaxing. I didn't like the single sink & I thought the lighting in the dressing area and in the bathroom were poor. The room was large but the bathroom/dressing area was too small. Not homey but efficient & quiet.
