During your Seattle vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Washington Park Arboretum
Acres of trees and shrubs stretch from the far side of Capitol Hill all the way to the Montlake Cut (a canal connecting Lake Washington to Lake Union). Within the 230-acre arboretum are 5,000 varieties of plants and quiet trails that are pleasant throughout the year but become most beautiful in spring, when the azaleas, cherry trees, rhododendrons, and dogwoods are all in bloom. The north end of the arboretum, a marshland that is home to ducks and herons, is popular with bird-watchers as well as kayakers and canoeists. A boardwalk with views across Lake Washington meanders along the waterside in this area (though noise from the adjacent freeway detracts considerably from the experience).
Pike Place Market
Pike Place Market, originally a farmers market, was founded in 1907 when housewives complained that middlemen were raising the prices of produce. The market allowed shoppers to buy directly from producers and thus save on grocery bills. By the 1960s, however, the market was no longer the popular spot it had been. World War II had deprived it of nearly half its farmers when Japanese Americans were moved to internment camps. The postwar flight to the suburbs almost spelled the end of the market, and the site was being eyed for a major redevelopment project. Fortunately, a grass-roots movement to save the 9-acre market culminated in its being declared a National Historic District.Today the market is once again bustling, but the 100 or so farmers and fishmongers who set up shop on the premises are only a small part of the attraction. More than 150 local craftspeople and artists can be found here, selling their creations as street performers serenade milling crowds. There are also hundreds of small specialty shops throughout the market, plus dozens of restaurants, including some of the city's best. At the information booth almost directly below the large PIKE PLACE MARKET sign, you can pick up a free map and guide to the market. Keep an eye out for low-flying fish at the Pike Place Fish stall, and be sure to save some change for Rachel, the market's giant piggy bank, which has raised more than $100,000 over the years.Victor Steinbrueck Park, at the north end of the market at the intersection of Pike Place, Virginia Street, and Western Avenue, is a popular lounging area for both the homeless and those just looking for a grassy spot in the sun. In the park, you'll see two 50-foot-tall totem poles. To get a glimpse behind the scenes at the market and learn all about its history, you can take a 1-hour guided Market Heritage Tour (tel. 206/774-5249 for information and reservations). Tours are offered Wednesday through Sunday at 11am and 2pm; the cost is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and children under 18. They depart from the market's Heritage Center, 1531 Western Ave., an open-air building filled with historical exhibits (take the Skybridge to the Market Garage and then take the elevator to the Western Ave. level).
IMAXDome Theater
The IMAX Dome is a movie theater with a 180-degree screen that fills your peripheral vision and puts you right in the middle of the action. This huge wraparound theater is adjacent to the Seattle Aquarium, and for many years now has featured a film about the eruption of Mount St. Helens. Various other special features are screened throughout the year.

LaQuinta elevators

Steven

McCormick and Schmick, Harborside on Lake Union ...beautiful view in all directions...parking is not free

The two elevators in this property were unforgettable. The vibration was intense when the doors closed. We opted for the stairs quite often. On one occasion we were determined to take the elevator that opened despite the fact that the metal piece of vertical molding fell across the opening diagonally barring our entry as the doors opened. Just put it back and continued on. The elevators were a good indicator that some refurbishment was necessary. The driveway to underground parking was like an off-road, narrow trek. In all fairness, it was next to a constuction site behind the property. The parking was free. The room was OK, nothing special, spacious and clean. Stay again? Maybe because of location. Really liked the two computers provided just off the lobby. Made good use of them for learning bus routes and finding more info on places we wanted to go since this was our first visit to downtown Seattle which we really enjoyed.

Lots of Extras

Anonymous

The LaQuinta Inn was easily accessible to and from our destination. The room was large with 2 queen beds and extras such as a refrigerator and microwave.I especially liked the fact that there were two sinks, one in the bathroom and another just outside the bathroom door which made it convenient for two people. Parking on the street level was limited with small spaces but additional parking was available in the underground parking garage.

Very nice place for your dollar

Susan, Seattle, WA, 2007-03-11

The LaQuinta Inn was very comfortable. We found the location of the hotel to be very convienent. Within walking distance to the Seattle Center and the Paramount Theatre. It was a very close drive from the hotel to the waterfront. The rooms were very comfortable and adequate space for two people.

Safe feeling in a big city

david, 2007-03-11

We felt very comforable in this hotel. Disappointed that it did not have a pool, but other than that the staff and hotel were very impressive. Quiet and very restful. Staff very helpful with directions on how to get around the city and assisted us to find what we needed in the city. Best of luck to them. They were having some construction going on but they made sure that it did not enter fear with your stay. Also they were very accommidating because our pick up truck was taller than their parking garage and they had very little other parking, but the worked it out so that we could park in the parking lot next door and they reimbursed us at the end of our stay. They were wonderful. I highly recommend this hotel and it is a short walk to the needle.

Good to downtown attractions

Anonymous, 2007-02-18

Within about 10 blocks space needle, Museum, downtown, convention center, Pikes Market, monorail and numberous attractions.

Service, quality and cleanliness of room was very good. A good view of city and space needle from our vantage. Only minor, temporary, disadvantage was the blockage of hotel parking lot due to construction on adjacent property. There was a paid public parking adjacent to hotel available and cost was reimbursted by hotel for the inconvience due to construction and blockage to their parking lot.

Homey place for a traveler

Howard, Philadelphia, PA, 2006-12-28

The Space Needle and Pacific Science Center are a short walk from the hotel. Downtown Shopping and restaurants are a short drive or cabride.

The room was significantly larger than I expected. The free wi-fi service was a plus that I used regularly. The Free Parking was a welcome change. The staff was at all times courteous and friendly. The fitness room was acceptable, but the steam room was not working. The breakfast room was comfortable and the morning breakfast offered a wide-range of food from whatever you would get in your favorite eatery to the most healthful. Making your own waffles in 2 minutes was also fun. The food included a plate of chocolate chip cookies at night. The hotel was well-located, whether you go downtown to Pike's Market. walk a few blocks to the Space Needle, or want to drive out to the mountains. I would recommend this hotel to other travelers and plan on staying there in the future on my regular trips to Seattle.

Great location

Anonymous, Newark, NJ, 2006-11-26

I liked the hotel as a whole. It is very economical. The location is great. Continental breakfast is convenient considering in a city that everything is for sale. Parking is fee, which is a big plus. Room is relatively small. However compared to the price, nothing to complain...

Nice downtown location

Anonymous, 2006-11-06

No need to drive -- catch the bus for less than $1.50, each way. The Space Needle is just a walk away.

The room seemed to have been recently redone and was quite nice. The room had a separate vanity area, which was convenient. For convenience, the room camd equipped with a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and a coffee maker. There was a desk/writing area, as well as a small refrigerator and a television.
