Rooms need Upkeep

There is a mall and lots of shoping across the street, along with a Toys R Us and lots of restaurants.

The Best Western Center Inn was beautiful from the outside -- very nicely decorated check-in area, beautiful large courtyard with lots of plants and trees and benches surrounding the pool. But the rooms themselves were dirty and unkempt. The carpets needed shampooing terribly. The toilet had not been cleaned long enough to have a pronounced ring in the bowl. The handle for the shower was in need of repair, so it was difficult to get the water on and take a shower. There was a small table with two hard chairs, but no other seating in the room. The location was good if you want to be close to the airport and at the intersection of two interstates leading both to Virginia Beach and Norfolk, but about 20 minutes to the ocean. There are lots of restaurants in the area, along with a mall.

For us the location was ideal because we were there to visit family and the hotel was only a mile and a half from their home. Our only real objection was that the blankets in the room were 'soiled' with a grease or marker ....and the pool needed to be skimmed for leaves...otherwise it was fine. And the 'continental' breakfast could have been a bit more extensive.

Security Issue

The shopping center next to the motel was vacant.

We arrived 1/2 hour early and we were told our room was not ready and to return later. The gentleman who arrived 2 minutes after us was given his room. When we checked in and went to our room around 4:30 p.m. the security door to the unit that housed our room was propped open. We unpacked, watched a little TV and then left for a few hours. Upon our return around 9:15 p.m. we encountered a security guard walking the grounds yet the door to our building was still propped open and we passed a car driving in the motel parking lot with its lights off. We closed the security door ourselves and called the office to voice our concerns about security and the need for a security guard. We checked out that night.

Very expensive

I am very disappointed for the room did not have a through cleaning. There was drops of blood on wall near the T.V. cabinet and in the bathroom back of toilet side. It was a shame to see that. However, I did not get any good rest due to the fact I am a 83 years old elderly handicapped man with with my only daughter. We were sharing this room and I had to sleep upright in my wheelchair. The lounge chair I thought was a recliner that was in room did not recline, back and forth for comfort. I was very became very uncomfortable and the bed (King size) was too, too soft I could not get comfortable or get into the bed that good. I could not get any rest. I did not sleep at all, just kept moving from the lounge chair into my wheelchair back and forth. However my daughter and I had to be out of there by 11am. Sad. Therefore, my poor daughter did not sleep at all for most of the night. She became very anger with me because I did not seek the other room or tell her otherwise to make another selection. In addition, I was also informed from the dining room crew, that the neighborhood that we were staying or visiting had a lot of break-ins, and drive by shootings, drug activity. I did see a lot of police activity there in this community once we arrived. Bad neighborhood, bad taste of choice I guess I can say. I will never stay in that area again. I was safe on your premises but I did not leave there to go get any other food for my father or myself. I would not say I was scared but I was not there to get into any problems with anyone, not with police or to get robbed. No not at all. we were getting a continental breakfast, WOW, even that has changed. All bread, no eggs, no sauages or beacon. Very disappointed in this so called comfort for an elderly person over 75 years old. There should be actually lounge chairs availabe and when my daughter had called for a roll out bed the front desk stated that they were taken up or no more available. My daughter had called kind of late in the early morning around 1-1:30am.
