During your Salt Lake City vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Liberty Park
This delightful city park has trails for walking and jogging, tennis courts, a small lake with ducks and paddleboat rentals, picnic facilities, a playground, a children's garden, a children's amusement park, a museum, and an excellent aviary. Covering 100 acres, this is a favorite gathering spot for locals, as well as one of the best dog-walking areas in the city (dogs must be leashed and owners must clean up after them). In the park, the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts (tel. 801/533-5760; www.folkartsmuseum.org), located in the historic Brigham Young/Chase home, contains exhibits of pioneer art, American Indian art, and other folk art. Allow a half hour. Tracy Aviary (tel. 801/322-2473 for recorded information, or 801/596-8500; www.tracyaviary.org), in the southwest section of the park, has more than 400 birds, including a number of endangered species. There's a special exhibit of Australian parrots called lories ($1 extra per person), and free-flying bird shows are presented during the summer (call for schedule). Allow at least 1 hour.
The Children's Museum of Utah
With more than 140 permanent exhibits, this is the place for kids of all ages to explore: Children can get their faces painted, pilot a jet, or excavate a woolly mammoth on an archaeological dig. The museum also features a child-size grocery store where kids can be both shoppers and checkers, and a room where shadows "stick" to a wall. A "color factory" helps children discover music, dance, and theater through colors -- they actually create color in the Chromolator and use the Bubbelator to play a tune. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Allow 1 to 3 hours. Note: As we went to press, plans and a major fund-raising campaign were underway to relocate the museum to larger quarters; call or check the website for the current location.
Pioneer Memorial Museum
Operated by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, this museum, housed in a Grecian-style building, contains an immense collection of pioneer portraits and memorabilia. The main floor contains paintings, photos, and the personal effects of church leaders Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball. The collection also includes a manuscript room, household displays, and exhibits on spinning, weaving, railroading, mining, and guns. The restored 1902 steam fire engine is our favorite exhibit. All four stories are packed with relics of Utah's history. You can walk through on your own or with the aid of a guide sheet; tours are also available. A 12-minute film is shown throughout the day. Allow 1 hour.

Nice stay needed some TLC

Jeffrey, Rochester, NY

Hotel close to downtown Salt Lake. A short drive or walk would get you to shopping, eating or back to the highway. Great access to I-15, Park City, or the airport.

Had a really nice stay at the Days Inn I was at in Salt Lake City Utah. The location was great, I was a bit dissasstified with the room cleaninless. The sheets were crumpled, the mattress was old and the box springs had a huge gash in the side of it. Overall the room was nice, but the place was a bit dirty. The stairwells and cement looked like they needed a steamcleaning, and by a couple rooms a huge pile of smelly cigartette butts were dumped on the balcony walkway, and left there for a couple days. The lock on the door gave me a bit of trouble. I had to go to the desk a couple nights because the door key would not let me in. I told the desk three times that I was staying until Sunday, but they kept making me check in and clear the key each time. The last day I was there, the door didn't lock at all behind me, which I thought was strange. I needed no key at all, to get into the room. The door did not lock behind me after trying several times to get it to lock. The view was great, but mostly, above all. The water temperature for the shower really was the worst part of staying in this hotel. Every day, for some odd reason, after five minutes in the shower, the water temperature would spike either one degree or another. I got burned on my back one time, and the next day, the water dropped to ice cold temperatures. The very last day I styed there, no water temperature fluctuations at all. (It figures).

days inn personel

donna, Boise, ID, 2005-07-01

MY SON AND I ARRIVED LATE PARTIALLY BECAUSE WE GOT LOST GETTING TO THIS PARTICULAR DAYS INN. WE DID TRY AND CALL AND AFTER IT RANG SEVERAL TIMES SOMEONE PICKED UP THE PHONE AND HUNG IT UP. THIS OCCURED SEVERAL TIMES, WE FINALLY FOUND A DAYS INN AND ASKED FOR DIRECTIONS WE WE WERE GIVEN SORT OF NO ONE KNEW WHERE OR HOW TO GET THERE. FINALLY ARRIVED AND WERE AT THE FRONT DESK AND THE YOUNG MAN WAS VERY NICE. HOWEVER THE AREA WS NOT THE BEST. I WAS IN A BAD PART OF SLC . FINALLY GOT UP TO THE ROOM AT 1230 AM AND ASKED ABOUT THE AIRPORT SHUTTLE THT WAS AVERTISED ON THE WEB SITE AND WS ADVISED THAT IT WAS THERE MAINTANCE MAN AND HE DID NOT DO A SHUTTLE UNTIL 700 AM OUT PLANE LEFT AT 0530 AM SO WE NEEDED A RIDE TO THE AIRPORT AT ABOUT 0330 AM. WE WERE GIVEN THE NAME OF A SHUTTLE BUT THEY WERE FULL AND THEN ADVISED WOULD HAVE TO CALL A CAB THAT WOULD COST 20.00 TO THE AIRPORT ONE WAY, ALSO WHEN I CALLED THE DAYS INN I WAS ADVISED THAT MY CAR WOULD BE SAFE LEFT IN THERE PARKING LOT FOR THE TIME I WAS GOING TO BE GONE. AFTER OBSERVING THE AREA I DECIDED LONG TERM PARKING WAS A BETTER WAY. FAST FOWARD TO 0330 AM WHEN IT WAS TIME TO CHECK OUT AND MY SON WHO IS 21 YRS OLD AND VERY CALM MOST OF THE TIME WENT INTO THE OFFICE FRONT DESK. NO ONE WAS THERE HE CALLED OUT AND KNOCKED ON THE COUNTER SOFTLEY AND STILL NO ONE. HE THEN WENT AROUND TO THE BACK OF THE DESK AND KNOCKED ON THE DOOR AND STILL NO ANSWER. THIS IS TAKING PLACE OVER APROX 10 MIN AND WE STILL HAVE TO GET TO THE AIRPORT. ABOUT THAT TIME THE CLERK CAME FROM ACROSS THE PARKING LOT OF THE HOTEL AND WAS ADJUSTING HIMSELF AND HIS CLOTHING AND WENT IN AND STARTED YELLIING AT MY SON. HE STARTED ACCUSING MY SON OF TAMPERING WITH THINGS ON HIS DESK WHICH HE DID NOT DO. HE WAS YELLING AT MY SON BY THIS TIME. WE DID GET CHECKED OUT AND PROCEEDED BUT I WILL NOT DO THINGS THE SAME AGAIN, I FEEL THAT THERE SHOULD BE SOME COMPENSATION FOR THE ROOM BECAUSE OF THE WAY WE WERE TREATED.
