During your Salt Lake City vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Beehive House
This house was built in 1854 as Brigham Young's family home. Young also kept an office here and entertained church and government leaders on the premises. Young, a lover of New England architecture, utilized much of that style in his house, including a widow's walk for keeping an eye on the surrounding desert. Today, visitors can get a glimpse of the lifestyle of this famous Mormon leader by taking a guided tour of the house. It has been decorated with period furniture (many pieces original to the home) to resemble the way it appeared when Young lived here, as described in a journal kept by his daughter Clarissa. Young's bedroom is to the left of the entrance hall. The Long Hall, where formal entertaining took place, is on the second floor; it was also used as a dormitory to house visitors. Young's children gathered in the sewing room, where they helped with chores, bathed by the cozy stove, and studied Christian principles. Only one of Young's 27 wives lived in the Beehive House at a time; the rest, with some of the children, lived next door in the Lion House (not open for tours) or in other houses. Built of stuccoed adobe in 1855 through 1856, the Lion House was named for the stone lion guarding its entrance. Before you leave, stop at Eagle Gate, a 76-foot gateway that marked the entrance to the Brigham Young homestead, located at the corner of State Street and South Temple. It's been altered several times over the years, and the original wooden eagle has been replaced by a 4,000-pound metal version with a 20-foot wingspan. Allow about an hour.
International Peace Gardens
Begun in 1939 by the Salt Lake Council of Women, the Peace Gardens have expanded over the years and now belong to the city. Take a stroll along the Jordan River, through the many gardens and past statuary and displays representing different countries; benches are scattered about for moments of rest and contemplation. Allow about 1 hour.
Gardner Village
This quaint village is a cluster of restored historic homes and buildings surrounding Gardner Mill, a flour mill built by Scottish immigrant Archibald Gardner in 1877. Brass plaques tell the stories of each of the historic structures. The mill, which is on the National Historic Register, now houses a large store specializing in country furniture and gift items, as well as Archibald's Restaurant. Close to two dozen shops in the other historic buildings, connected by red brick paths, sell a wide range of items, including art, crafts, clothing, candy, quilts, dolls, and home furnishings. There's also a spa, a bakery, and a picturesque duck pond. Plan to spend at least an hour here.

Quiet, clean, convenient

Anonymous

It's close to the best Western Wear shop I've ever seen. Everything from lots of great cowboy boots to a huge selection of western clothes, saddles and other horsey stuff for both English and Western riders.

The hotel is quiet and easy to get to from the airport....convenient to it but without the jet noise. The room was good sized and clean. The bathroom is separate from the vanity area (as in most La Quinta Inns) which is great for two people getting ready. They had a luggage cart in the lobby to borrow which made it a lot easier to get all our ski stuff to the room and back. Would definitely stay there again if flying into/out of Salt Lake City.

Extremely Helpful Staff

Sheena, 2006-06-25

The hotel is very close to a Denny's as well as a Chilis. I also observed a Target down the road, but did not go there.

La Quinta Inn in Salt Lake City was very clean and comfortable. They offered a pool which was fun and provided a life jacket for my 2 year old nephew who was with us. The helpfulness of the staff is what really stood out for me and if I ever need a hotel in Salt Lake City again I will definitely stay there.

Great business amenities

Very close to the Airport.

The location was very convenient for Airport. This La Quinta Inn room was very comfortable and seemed much larger than most with a desk area and a table and two chairs. In the evening time hotel staff revisits to replace new sets of towels like fancy hotel. It was very nice experience and perfect for business trip.

Fairly nice

edward, Denver, CO, 2006-02-15

Numerous restaurants right across the street from the hotel including Chili's, Denny's and some local fare that I do not recall.

Typical budget accomodations for a business traveler. The free breakfast was great and the staff were all very nice. The pool and hot tub area were clean and indoors so it was quite relaxing at the end of a long day. In all I would stay here again.

Good value

Janet, Pocatello, ID, 2005-06-23

We were extremely pleased with the value and location of La Quinta. We have stayed at the La Quinta near the airport but wanted to experience another location in the SLC valley. We liked the proximity to restaurants and theaters in Murray and West Valley. We were pleased with the ample breakfast buffet in the moderate sized breakfast room. Unfortnately, the money we saved staying at this La Quinta was spent at Sam's Club which was in the vicinity. We did not plan to shop on this visit but since Sam's Club was bigger than Sam's Club in our area (Idaho Falls), we decided to shop. We definitely plan to stay at this particular La Quinta next time we visit SLC.
