During your Dallas vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
The Studios at Las Colinas
North Texas's major movie and TV studio -- where Walker, Texas Ranger and Silkwood were filmed -- offers daily tours of its grounds, including displays of movie memorabilia and hands-on demonstrations of special effects (from that memorable blockbuster Addams Family Values) and blue-screen technology. You'll see the Oval Office set used in Oliver Stone's JFK, as well as costumes from Star Trek and Forrest Gump. If you've been to studios in Hollywood or the movie museums in other parts, you've probably seen more and better; however, if you've always wanted to visit a movie set, you'll at least get a glimpse here. Tours last about an hour and 15 minutes.
Dallas Zoo
If you're headed west to Fort Worth, and one zoo trip will do, you'd be better off waiting (the Fort Worth Zoo, along with the one in San Antonio, are the two best in Texas and two of the best in the country). Otherwise, if the kids are clamoring for some wild animals, the recently renovated Dallas Zoo -- the oldest zoo in Texas, founded in 1888 -- isn't likely to disappoint (one feature, "Wilds of Africa," was named the top African zoo exhibit in the country). The 85-acre park also features a habitat for rare Sumatran tigers, a chimpanzee forest, and a monorail safari ride. A couple of hours spent here should suffice for the kids.
Dallas Museum of Art
Though a substantial notch below a world-class institution, this I. M. Pei-designed museum contains impressive collections of international art, especially from the Americas, Africa, and Asia and the Pacific. The Arts of the Americas section is the largest and most impressive, with valuable contributions from pre-Columbian lost civilizations of the Aztec, Maya, and Nazca peoples and Spanish colonial arts. The more limited Art of Europe gallery exhibits a handful of works by the biggies -- van Gogh, Monet, Cézanne, Gauguin, and Degas -- while the small 20th-century collection includes Picasso, Mondrian, and Giacometti, among others. The contemporary collection includes works by Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, the Texan Robert Rauschenberg, and Jasper Johns. In the Wendy & Emery Reves Collection is a curious re-creation of Coco Chanel's French summer home, complete with her collection of furnishings and paintings by French Impressionists like Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Degas. The DMA puts on interesting occasional shows, such as the recent, colorful "Day of the Dead" installation and the blockbuster "Splendors of China's Forbidden City" exhibit. In the atrium, where jazz combos play for free on Thursday evenings, hangs a gorgeous, monumental blown-glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly. A couple of hours should be sufficient, unless you're a dedicated art hound.

Hector's on Henderson - Delightful restaurant!
This quaint hotel is working diligently to be upscale and trendy! While they haven't quite reached their intended mark - their passion is evident. The staff is efficient and friendly, but a formal conceirge would be a nice addition. The rooms are boutique yet cozy and the hotel is clean and well-decorated. The food and the restaurant lack focus, but I suspect that will come with time. The gym is well equipped and easily accessible.
Comfort and Elegance
Alyssa, Portland, OR
There is a great shopping area just down the street called Highland Park Village.
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very nicely decorated and very comfortable. The valet staff was quick nad friendly. The parking rate was 10 a day which is not bad. The hotel was in a nice location but not a lot of thing to walk to besides SMU. The staff was great about providing directions to things around town.
Great quick get away

The hotel Lumen was a great surprise. It is more of an adult boutique hotel rather than family friendly one. It seemed to cater to a more sofisticated clientle looking for a chic weekend get-away. Simple, elegent and clean. Located in a great part of town. I loved the bathroom.
Could be great with a little effort

Is there anything better than Snider Plaza???
The person that you first come in contact with sets the pace. The check-in gentleman was not friendly. As a matter of fact, questions I asked him seemed to bother him. It was a strain for him to check me in it seemed. Considering the location and the lovely atmosphere, customer service was poor. The room was very modern and chic. The bedding was extremely comfortable. I would have liked to slept in, but the housekeepers are very loud and slam doors!!!
Style, comfort and location

the Hotel Lumen had the modern Botuque hotel style and comfort that I look for when traveling. From the Todd Murphy painting in the lobby to the Flat Screen TV in the rooms, and all details in between are well done. Great bedding and awesome shower make this a great place to come home to when out of town.
