Low Frills Hotel for Budget Traveler

A car is a necessity if staying at this hotel, its the only way to get to shops, returants, anything.

I was staying in College Station for a 5 day Workshop at A&M's campus. The property appears to have been an older motel recent converted into a HOJO's Express. I was looking for an in budget minded place and this fit the bill. The room was small and it could use some cosmetic upgrades. But it was clean, had cable TV, coffee maker, mini-fridge, microwave, hair dryer, iron, and wireless internet. It also had a very basic cont. Breakfast (juice, coffee, cereal, etc...) The one other downside was the location, you are just on the edge of town and need a car to get anywhere including returants, but that appears true of almost everywhere in CS. A personal dislike was the fact that the rooms are on ground level with the room door opening directly to the outside.

Hotel is right off Highway 6, close to the south end of College Station. The Room was fine. Nothing Special but fine for a one or two night stay.

the howard johnsons at college station is located right off highway 6 which is the main road into town i found it to be very accessable to all the places we needed to go this weekend

I have never stayed at a howard johnsons before and although the hotel was older it was very clean and the staff was very pleasant and helpful

Unpleasantly Surprised

This property is about 3 miles from Texas A&M.

This hotel was not even comparable to the other hotels in the chain. The room was filthy, the bathroom was extraoridinarily small (the doorway to the toilet was the widthe of my shoulders) There was no fan in the bathroom, just a small window with a dirty screen. The airconditioner was filthy with dust. The painting was haphazardly done. The door paint was full of cracks. The light switch was cracked and there were five plugs into a single outlet, which to me was a fire hazard. The TV was very dim, even so, I could see the television thru the sheets.

Need to review business practices

The Howard Johnson Express was an experience that I hope will never happen again. We checked into the hotel @ 3pm and were given our room key(electronic entry) We left and came back @ 930 pm. When I tried to get in the key would not work. After several attempts someone inside the room yelled out-"WRONG ROOM." After rechecking my room number and going to the front desk, it was determined that they had double booked me and someone else in the same room. I had the clerk on duty call the room and apologize to the people that thought someone was trying to break into their room. They told the clerk that they were very frightened. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION! I visited with the manager the next morning and he was more interested in making excuses than making things right. He did apologize, but it would have been nice if he would have offered a discount on our stay. I will never stay here again. By the way, the bath towels were old and scratchy!

The room has a small refrigerator and there is a Kroger store closeby.

This is an older hotel therefore the rooms reflect the age. Room was clean and it seemed that everything worked okay. Staff was friendly and helpful. Continental Breakfast was limited but adequate. Neighborhood was a little concerning. We were satisfied considering the price.

THERE'S AN ABUNDANCE OF FOOD AND SHOPPING OPTIONS WITHIN A SHORT DISTANCE.

THE STAFF WAS FRIENDLY AT TIME OF CHECKIN. THE ROOM WAS CLEAN BUT THE VANITY AREA WAS TINY AND THE BATHROOM WAS CRAMPT. WE DID USE THE POOL AT NIGHT WITHOUT LIGHTING.
