Fort Nashborough
Though it's much smaller than the original, this reconstruction of Nashville's first settlement includes several buildings that faithfully reproduce what life in this frontier outpost was like in the late 18th century. The current fort looks oddly out of place in modern downtown Nashville, but if you're interested in Tennessee's early settlers, this site is worth a brief look. Allow 30 minutes or more if you've got kids who want to play here.

Belmont Mansion
Built in the 1850s by Adelicia Acklen, then one of the wealthiest women in the country, this Italianate villa is the city's most elegant historic home open to the public, and its grand salon is one of the most elaborately decorated rooms in any antebellum home in Tennessee. Belmont Mansion was originally built as a summer home, yet no expense was spared in its construction. On your tour of the mansion, you'll see rooms filled with period antiques, artwork, and marble statues. This museum also has an excellent gift shop full of reproduction period pieces. Allow at least 90 minutes to tour the mansion.Shutterbugs, take note: Unlike many museums and historic mansions, photography is permitted inside the Belmont Mansion. So stock up on film or digital-camera cartridges, and click away!

Nashville Zoo at Grassmere
This 200-acre park just south of downtown is in the midst of an expansion. In the naturalistic habitats, you'll see river otters, bison, elk, black bear, gray wolves, bald eagles, and cougars, as well as other smaller animals. In the park's aviary, you can walk among many of the state's songbirds, and at the Cumberland River exhibit expect to see fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Allow 2 to 3 hours.

Felt like an apartment!

Tons of shopping within 5 minutes and the Gaylord Convention Center is right across the street.

The Fairfield Nashville Resort in Nashville, TN was more that we even expected. My wife and I stayed in the one bedroom with a sleeper sofa. We loved it! My 4 1/2 & 6 year old children slept on the sofa. They had their own TV as did we in our private bedroom with a King size bed. The kitchen was furnished with dishes, pots and pans, and even a a dishwasher. We thought having a small vacuum in the room was great especially with children. It even had a washer and dyer anWe plan to go back soon and stay longer. Highly recommend it! The location was perfect for great shopping and also within a short distance to the downtown area.

I can honestly say that this was one of the nicest, cleanest and best places I have ever stayed. The room was absolutely spotless not a single piece of dirt anywhere to be found. We had a minor maintenance problem with the lights and within 10 minutes of calling someone about it, the gentleman was there and working on it. What service!! He was so nice and friendly. All of the staff were excellent in their service and helping the guests. Very friendly. The room was very nice. I can't think of anything I was dissatisfied with at the hotel and all I can say is excellent, excellent. I tell everyone I come in contact with about my experience there. I will definitely want to stay at one of their places again.
