During your Nashville vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Fort Nashborough
Though it's much smaller than the original, this reconstruction of Nashville's first settlement includes several buildings that faithfully reproduce what life in this frontier outpost was like in the late 18th century. The current fort looks oddly out of place in modern downtown Nashville, but if you're interested in Tennessee's early settlers, this site is worth a brief look. Allow 30 minutes or more if you've got kids who want to play here.
Travellers Rest Historic House Museum
Built in 1799, Travellers Rest, as its name implies, once offered gracious Southern hospitality to travelers passing through a land that had only recently been settled. Judge John Overton (who, along with Andrew Jackson and Gen. James Winchester, founded the city of Memphis) built Travellers Rest. Overton also served as a political advisor to Jackson when he ran for president. Among the period furnishings you'll see in this restored Federal-style farmhouse is the state's largest public collection of pre-1840 Tennessee-made furniture. Allow an hour to tour the museum, and more if you want to wander the grounds and outbuildings.
Ryman Auditorium & Museum
If you're as enamored with music history as I am, you could devote several hours to a self-guided tour of this National Historic Landmark where you're free to stand onstage -- even belt out a few bars if the spirit moves you -- or sit in the hardwood "pews," and wander the halls upstairs and down, looking at memorabilia in glass showcases. However, the typical tourist may be satisfied with a quick walk through the stately redbrick building. In either case, the best way to experience the Ryman is to attend a performance here. The site of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974, the Ryman Auditorium is known as the "Mother Church of Country Music," the single most historic site in the world of country music. Originally built in 1892 as the Union Gospel Tabernacle by riverboat captain Tom Ryman, this building served as an evangelical hall for many years. By the early 1900s, the building's name had been changed to honor its builder and a stage had been added. That stage, over the years, saw the likes of Enrico Caruso, Katharine Hepburn, Will Rogers, and Elvis Presley. The Grand Ole Opry began broadcasting from here in 1943. For the next 31 years, the Ryman Auditorium was host to the most famous country music radio show in the world. However, in 1974, the Opry moved to the then-new Grand Ole Opry House in the Music Valley area. Since its meticulous renovation in 1994, the Ryman has regained its prominence as a temple of bluegrass and country music. Its peerless acoustics make it a favored venue of rock's best singer-songwriters and classical musicians, as well. Allow at least an hour for a self-guided tour.

great place if your not a snob

barbara, Harrisburg, PA, 2007-02-21

Broadway is just a short drive from the hotel.I would recommend eating at the Past Perfect located on 122 3rd ave south right off broadway. If you are a chain restaurant person and you don't like good fresh food then just about anywhere else would suit you.

The hotel was in an area that I would not recommend for a family. It wasn't within walking distace to anything other than a gas station and a thrift store and I certainly wouldn't walk around at night by myself or with others. On a positive note, I would stay there again and again. The people at the desk were very friendly and helpful and the bar was fun. The room was not bad. It is not glamorous but when I travel my hotel room is meant for sleeping and taking showers, nothing more. my sheets were changed every day, the shower was big and had great pressure, and the coffee pot was NOT in the bathroom! Bathroom coffee is something I will never understand. Any budget traveler that does not expect more than what you pay for would find this place acceptable.

Friendly Personnel

Marilena, 2007-02-11

There wasn't much of a select in dining nearby. We went to one restaurant nearby, but was unhappy with the food and service.

Front desk was very friendly and helpful. We were dissatisfied with a few things. Our bathrooms needed better repair. Plumbing was not working correctly. Carpeting needed to be replaced because it was dirty and patched up. The dining room sittings were stained and dirty. There was no ice machine.

IT WAS ABOUT A 10 MINUTE WALK TO GET TO THE NIGHTLIFE. THERE WERE BARS AND DINING ABOUT 6 BLOCKS AWAY...

WE WERE TRAVELING THROUGH TOWN LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO CRASH AND CLOSE TO FOOD AND BARS...GREAT LOCATION AND A NEAT LOOK AT THE STADIUM...DEFINATELY ENJOYED THE STAY.

Great Value for Money

Michael, 2006-11-27

From the Hotel to Broadway a twenty minute walk or $8 in a taxi. Plenty of Bars and Restarants a visit to The Wildhorse Saloon and the Grand Ole Opry is a must. Great shopping visit the Flee market at the Tenneesse State fairground held the 4th weekend every month (3rd weekend in Dec).

Excellent Hotel at a very affordable price located a short walk from downtown Nashville. The rooms were very well appointed and clean. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Great bar in the lobby. Serves continental breakfast. If visiting Nashville again I will stay at Days Inn at the Stadium.
