Great location, room below expectation

Anonymous, 2006-11-25

Brick Alley Pub is a great restaurant

The Viking is a beautiful hotel in an excellent location. However, the room we stayed in was below our expectations. There were bobby pins on the bathroom floor and the bath products were used (i.e. Half empty bottles of shower gel). Since we were located on the bottom floor, we could hear squeaking from the stairs above us. If you are thinking about staying at this hotel, you may want to consider requesting a room on a higher floor.

Overpriced

Rachel, 2006-09-17

Very close to the waterfront-moonlit walks and shopping and dining. You do not need your car once your there. That was great.

The Viking Hotel was very well situated, nicley decorated and a quaint place So I expected to have a nice room but Our room was VERY small for the money we paid, we had no working light in our room on arrival, we had light of TV and the bathroom light only. The lightbulb came on my 2nd call to the front desk the next morning. The coffee maker did not work either. Both issues were fixed with an "I'm sorry". My dining experience-my sirlion steak was too veiny and too fatty. My ice cream deseert was placed on a hot plate-yes, you guessed-it melted! The fix "I'm sorry". So we ate off premise the next whole day. The rooms cleanliness was medium at best. Probably due to the lighting!Too bad, for all that happened because this was my first stay and it will be my last.

Great Hotel

Elizabeth, 2006-09-04

There are plenty of restaurants and shopping right near the hotel. It's a perfect location.

The Viking was very comfortable, the spa was excellent. The room was a perfect size and the beds were very comfortable.

very creaky fllors

Kevin, 2006-04-23

You have to see the Breakers Mansion. Unbelievable!

The hotel Viking is an old historic hotel. Along with history comes creaks. However, for a hotel to charge modern premium pricing, yet use history as an excuse for loud creaky floors that keep you up at night is unfair. The location was fine, with a comfortable walk to the main shopping areas of Newport. The concierge was very helpful in setting up an enjoyable visit.

Comfortable and welcoming

Anonymous, 2006-02-26

Our stay was very brief and so we did not have a chance to experience all aspects of the hotel (pool, spa or dining!), but we liked it and found the room quite comfortable. The location is great. Apparently some of the older rooms (we stayed in the new wing) are quite small so if size matters more than atmosphere, opt for the new wing.

just a hotel

WALTER, Newark, NJ, 2006-02-20

Seems that we got the smallest room in the Hotel # 301, the bed was terribly unconfortable. Dinner very expensive $180 for 2 people. I would not recommend this place to anybody.i asked for a bellboy, they have 1/2 an hour backup, that is what they told me.Never again

Changed Rooms

Tennis Hall of Fame / great Wine Shops nearby --like OPUS, its there and a year you'd love to have

We stayed over during the blizzard of 06 and have to say the area was as clean of snow as possible and the just off site parking was very clear to exit for our return home. we would stay again and would recommend "old style hotel" for nearly the same $$$ as the " upscale chains" get.
