Most recent user reviewsScore 5 out of 5 Atherton Hotel Timothy, Philadelphia, PA, 2007-03-03 Close to diningGood staff, very close to university buildings. Decent reatuarant and bar. Good overall value. Score 5 out of 5 All around good deal Anonymous, 2006-05-12 A perfect location! Nestled between the two main streets of State College, dining, shopping, nightlife, Penn State University are all within easy walking distance. Our stay at the Atherton Hotel was an enjoyable experience. It's a lovely 'old fashioned' hotel, conveniently located right in the heart of State College. The room was well appointed and clean, comfortable beds, chairs and a large desk for working. The below ground parking garage was a good bonus. The only unusual situation was no direct entrance or exit from the lobby - you had to take the elevator down to the ground level to exit. Score 4 out of 5 fine accomodations Anonymous, 2006-04-29 The Tarragon Restaurant and the hotel bar are very nice. Prices are comparable to other restaurants in the town, and reasonable. There are many restaurants and food "spots" a short walk away, if you prefer checking out the town's variety. The Atherton was a convenient and comfortable location. The room was cozy and neatly serviced and supplied. The convenience of being in downtown State College was wonderful, especially for the price for one night's stay. A walk away from campus, restaurants, and shopping. Parking is private, off the road, and also conveniently located under the hotel. It is, however, a noisy and busy location. Also, the adjoining rooms were very audible. Location and convenience were great; privacy was not. Score 5 out of 5 best location Michael, 2006-03-17 very close to all bars and restaurantsI had never stayed in this hotel before, but I had eaten dinner in the restaurant several times. It was built in the best possible location because of its proximity to the center of this great town. It it is very well kept with a private parking garage, which is a huge advantage in State College. I will definitely stay here in the future. Score 2 out of 5 On a quiet week Susan, Pittsburgh, PA, 2006-03-03 The Hotel was a good location to the Penn State Campus. Easy walk to shopping and restaurants. The room was very comfortable and clean. I was disappointed that with very few people staying in the Hotel they put us in a room on the main highway of Atherton. It was noisy all evening. The people in the room next to us were very loud when they spoke. They seemed to be businessmen. The next morning we were the only two people in the restaurant for breakfast. My husband ordered french toast and I ordered Eggs Benedict. It was a good half hour before the food was brought to the table. The Hollandaise sause was completly broken and did not look appitizing at all. The waitress said that they were still good but the Chief had made the sauce at 6am that morning, and sometimes when it sits it tends to break apart. For the amount of time that we waited for our food, he could have made a new sauce. Needless to say, we were very disappointed with our stay that we were so looking forward to. |
