Pearson Air Museum
A very different piece of history is preserved at this small air museum on the far side of Fort Vancouver from Officers' Row. This airfield was established in 1905, making it the oldest operating airfield in the United States. Dozens of vintage aircraft, including several World War I-era biplanes are on display. In August, the museum has a biplane fly-in.

Pittock Mansion
At nearly the highest point in the West Hills, 1,000 feet above sea level, stands the most impressive mansion in Portland. Once slated to be torn down to make way for new housing, this grand château, built by the founder of Portland's Oregonian newspaper, is fully restored and open to the public. Built in 1914 in a French Renaissance style, the mansion featured many innovations, including a built-in vacuum system and amazing multiple shower heads in the baths. Today it's furnished with 18th- and 19th-century antiques, much as it might have been at the time the Pittocks occupied the building. With an expansive view over the city to the Cascade Range, the lawns surrounding the mansion are a great spot for a picnic. You can also access Forest Park's Wildwood Trail from here.

Fort Vancouver National Historic Site
It was here in Vancouver, at the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) Fort Vancouver, that much of the Northwest's important early pioneer history unfolded. The HBC, a British company, came to the Northwest in search of furs, and for most of the first half of the 19th century it was the only authority in this remote region. Fur trappers, mountain men, missionaries, explorers, and settlers all made Fort Vancouver their first stop in Oregon country. Today Fort Vancouver houses several reconstructed buildings that are furnished as they might have been in the middle of the 19th century. In summer, there are costumed interpreters on hand giving demonstrations of activities that once took place here at the fort. Outside the fort is a large formal garden.

Home away from Home

The Pasta and Pizza place nearby is great...We went there two nighs in a row.

The Red Lion Convention center in Portland has been a home away from home for my family. We stayed at other hotels in the area. However, the Red Lion Convention Center has made the gathering time and relaxing time more pleasureable for my son and my family. We normally just hang out and just relax. We will continue to travel to Portland and certainly make The Red Lion our "Home away from Home".

There is a big mall nearby with lots of shopping.

We had a pleasant stay at this hotel. Most of the staff were very nice and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. It had nice black-out curtains so you can sleep forever in the morning! Downtown Portland is about 15-20 minutes away. Easy freeway access.

Mall within walking distance

The Red lion on the River, was a great place to stay. Right on the columbia River, it is an ideal place to reserve a room for the 4th of July. The rooms are well furnished, with the beds being the best I have ever stayed in. A Great place.

The shopping center was just across the street and the hotel provided transportation to take you to and from the shopping center.

The Red Rion Hotel was great! It exceeded my expectations. We had a great view of the river, the staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel was under construction when we were there, so I can't imagine how much more beautiful and better it will be when it's done. There's a shopping center and movie theater just minutes away and the hotel actually provides a shuttle that will drop you off and pick you back up whenever you want. Overall, I will definitely stay here again.

The eliptical trainer had a sign on it that it was out of order. Despite a request to management for a repair, it remained out of commission throughout the four day stay. Nonetheless, the price was right and it is close to the airport. Should I be in Portland again I will explore other options in the the same neighborhood.

There is a shopping center across the highway as well as super market and resturants.

Red Lion Hotel was conveniently located and the room comfortable. The staff was friendly, and the buffet breakfast and coffee was great.

Easy access to a grocery story, Target, multiple office supply stores and chain restaurants.

The Red Lion Inn at Jantzen Beach seems a little worn, but that is some of its charm. Easy access to the main freeway, but quiet. Large facility, ample parking, acess to a shopping mall and attractive pool and fitness areas. Very friendly staff and comfortable seating areas on the floors and wings. A small balcony off the room on the 2nd floor.

Our room at the Red Lion Inn on the River, Jantzen Beach in Portland was extraordinarly large and comfortable. There was a desk with internet connection which was easy to access. The beds were luxiously soft and comfy, small balcony with a view and peaceful. It was quiet, hotel staff were friendly. The pool area was particularly attractive, overlooking the Columbia River. There was a large pool and jacuzzi, easy to access from our room. I would recommend this to anyone!

Great breakfast buffet at the hotel.

Very comfortable room. Great breakfast buffet. Very attentive service by hotel staff. Only one minor complaint - the shower head is plumbed lower than it should be in the bathtub. Let me reiterate - a very minor complaint. Great Hotel. When I travel to Portland again, I hope a room will be available at this hotel again.
