Good value. On the fringe of a seedy area in one direction. Ann, Richmond, VA, 2006-06-27 The hotel is within walking distance of several nice restaurants and within walking distance of the trolley. The room was comfortabable once a roll away bed was brought in to replace the horrible mattress on the pull out sofa bed. Air conditioning in the living area was not sufficient for the hot days I was there. The bedroom air was fine. The staff was helpful. Although on the fringe of a seedy area, I felt safe on the streets. Score 5 out of 5 great value, great location Sean, Los Angeles, CA, 2005-10-27 Powell's City of BooksGreat for the money, old building in a central location. Score 2 out of 5 nice but problems with service Eric, Chicago, IL, 2005-08-04 Our stay was marred by a defective air conditioner; they did attempt to fix it but were not able to do so or change us to another room, and it was hard to sleep due to the heat and humidity. Also, I sent a pair of pants to be cleaned; it took over 24 hours and they had shrunk significantly! Otherwise comfy room, interesting area, good complimentary breakfast. Score 2 out of 5 Good hotel for just one night Sally, Los Angeles, CA, 2005-07-19 The hotel was good for one night's stay. However, since my husband is totally blind, he could smell the age of the hotel. The rooms were clean but the air conditioner kept my husband up all night; he did not sleep well due to the loud noise. It was ok for me; not the greatest. I did like the continental breakfast after which we left and continued our trip. Score 4 out of 5 Good Location, Parking very accessable Anonymous, Philadelphia, PA, 2005-07-11 I found the Mark Spenser to be a bit of a disapointment when it came to room size and room fittings--the room could have used a "face lift." I had a window airconditioner that was awkward to use with the drapes open and the lights on at night. No provisions for privacy were easily made. Had I wanted to use it, there was a nicely equiped efficency kitchen, strangely without a microwave, however. The room was small, overall, compared to other downtown hotels I've stayed in for comparable prices. As I was alone, this wasn't a problem. There was very adequate closet space. There was an intimate atmosphere in the hotel, which serves afternoon tea as well as a continental breakfast. Plantings and outdoor seating areas were lovely. I'd stay here again as the location was very good for me. The small parking lot across the street made it very easy to come and go for a downtown hotel. It was also a good location for downtown sights. |
