Most recent user reviewsScore 2 out of 5 basic and grubby Mark, Los Angeles, CA Within walking distance there are some very cool places to eat, great clubs and good shopping. The hotel's location is very good.Although the rooms had clean bedding, hot water and good towels the hotel was rather run down with corridors in grim need of paint and new carpets. Behind the marble and style of the reception area you'll find a place whith the character of a rather seedy motel. Score 4 out of 5 nice simple place Anonymous, 2007-02-28 in the heart of greenwich villagewith friendly staff and decent accomodations. Score 5 out of 5 Great location David, Columbus, OH, 2007-02-25 There is a restaurant in the hotel and a bar/lounge on the lobby floor also. This hotel always had a perfect location on Washington Square Park and with its recent rennovation the lobby and rooms are stylish and clean. It is within easy walking distance to coffee shops, bars, restaurants, shopping, and night-life of Greenwich Village and Soho, and 1 block from the subway. Score 5 out of 5 perfect location and neighborhood feel Anonymous, New York, NY, 2006-07-28 for great italian...babbo's is across the street...i always enjoy staying here because it is in a very centeralized location downtown and you get all the comforts of hotel with a very local, old school and historical feel instead of the ultra over-hip hotels in the surrounding neighborhoods. if you are looking to be pampered and din in hotel restaurants, this isn't the place for you. but it is a good balance between quaint bed and breakfast feel mixed with an attentive hotel service. the only less positive thing i can think of mentioning is the ancient workout space and equipment.... Score 4 out of 5 Review Anonymous, 2006-07-12 The location of this hotel is fantastic - right off Washington Square and in close proximity to lots of shopping, dining and nightlife!Score 5 out of 5 Convenient location for lower Manhattan Peter, 2006-06-08 I selected lower Manhattan to be closer to Battery Park so it was a long cab ride from JFK (the driver said 45 minutes to an hour but it took 2 1/2 hours!) and also to Broadway. I booked a limo for the return trip to JFK and it took the driver 50 minutes! We arrived early after a 2 1/2-hour shuttle ride from JFK which was frustrating and were unable to check-in until 3pm so had to leave and walk in the rain. Understandable though as hotels must clean the rooms after guests depart at noon. The room was small but well-appointed. I liked the nice touch of soft terry robes in the closet. The restaurant was busy at 6:30 and couldn't seat us until 9pm so we ate in the bar which was OK. The food was excellent. Summary: Hotel was good but add-ons not so good! Score 5 out of 5 We Love the Decor, Location, friendly staff George, Los Angeles, CA, 2006-05-05 We were disappointed with "The Village", a few blocks away, over-priced, unfriendly waiters who seated us "on top of" other diners even though there many empty tables. Lunch the next day made up for it with sidewalk dining on tasty Italian bistro fare at the PortoBello Restaurant on the other side of the park on Thompson Street. The Washington Square Hotel was the perfect place for us to stay on our third visit to NYC in less than 2 years. We loved being right across from Washington Square, immersed in the energy of the university all around us. (West 8th Street was a bit tacky and not to our liking, but was easy enough to avoid). We had no difficulty finding places to eat within short walking distance of the hotel, whose complimentary continental breakfast with fresh fruit bowl was perfect for our health-consciousness. Even though it was "rather compact", we loved the decor of our room....a sophisticated urban style with convenience and attractive use of each inch of space. The colorful contemporary tile artwork was an enjoyable sight in the hallways, lobby and adjoining restaurant and bar. The friendliness of the staff seemed sincere and unaffected making us feel welcome and looking forward to our next stay with them. Score 4 out of 5 European Feel in New York City Anonymous, Chicago, IL, 2006-02-12 the subway is a short walk around the corner from the hotel and will take you up to Times Square or out to the airport (with the bus). This lovely hotel is in a great location for a visit to Manhattan. We were close to the train and in the midst of the NYU campus. Meals and rooms had a distictly European feel with a lovely breakfast included each morning. The staff was helpful yet private and graciously insured safe travel through their car service. We were at the Washington Square Hotel during New York's snowstorm this winter, and we found the staff to be accomodating when we were forced to extend our visit due to the closure of all major airports. I would reccomend staying at this hotel for mature couple who would like a quiet stay amid the constant activity of the city. Score 5 out of 5 very family friendly Anonymous, Boston, MA, 2006-02-06 It's only couple of blocks away from the 5th ave, where there are lots of stores. The hotel was very comfortable, clean and quiet. The location was good too, only couple of blocks away from the T-station and the famous 5th Ave. The restaurant of the hotel is great too.
