Chic, Stylish comfortable "home away from home" with a friendly staff. The hotel is a non-smoking environment.
Most recent user reviewsScore 4 out of 5 Great value for NYC Garland Times square and Broadway. There were also alot of neighborhood restaurants that were open 24 hours a day and the meals were great and a good value. The room was very clean and newly remodeled. The only thing that I would say was a negative experience is that the room was very small, as well as the elevator. Also the source of heat was a radiator and there were no in room personal controls. Even though it was winter, it was so hot in the room that the window had to be open at all times to tolerate it. Score 2 out of 5 Review martin, San Diego, CA, 2006-09-22 only a few block from the heart of broadway showswe were very unsatisfied: a small room in the back of the hotel not street front. the bathroom very small, only shower no tub. Score 5 out of 5 Excellent NYC option patrick, Chicago, IL, 2006-04-25 The Washington Jefferson a nearly ideal hotel in the heart of the beast that is New York. While small, our room was pleasantly spacious, and very attractive, from the desk and lamps to the with a lovely bathroom/shower. And most importatnly, the beds were very comfortable. The pair of subway stations within two blocks made for easy access to any corner of the city, as does the central location at 51st and 9th. To a person, the staff was pleasant and unflaggingly helpful. I give the Washington Jefferson an unreserved recommendation (I'm returning there next week, in fact!). Score 3 out of 5 trying hard but no A/C is hard to overcome Jack, 2006-04-13 plenty of choices: Renaissance Deli on 8th Ave had great breakfast for under $10. There are literally 200 restaurants within 15 minute walk. The people are very nice & trying very hard to make the hotel a nice place. And the bed, personal amenities & fixtures are very good. The new decorating scheme is like the W chain--clean & elegant. There is free high-speed Internet via ethernet. The building is working against them. From a very dinky very slow elevator to TEENY rooms to correspondingly dinky closet and desk, things are just very small. Like many other NYC hotels. All of this small size could be overlooked, EXCEPT THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING. I was there in April 2006 and although I left the window open, it was stifling when I returned each day. I cannot imagine summer! If they added A/C & kept the rates the same, this would be a real deal since the location is great. Score 1 out of 5 Stop!!!! Bad Choice!!!!!!! Anonymous, Chicago, IL, 2006-03-30 It's only blocks from the theater district but, travelers beware. This hotel is not what it appears to be.First of all, the hotel is located on a shady block, across the street from a halfway house of recovering addicts. As a woman, I did not feel safe at the thought of returning from the theater to this block, during the day or night. Second of all, the hotel room was literally only large enough to hold a double bed. I was utterly disappointed and immediately checked out of this hotel. I DO NOT recommed the Washington-Jefferson Hotel to anyone. This is not what any traveler should expect from New York City. Score 5 out of 5 Wonderful location Lesbia, San Juan, PR, 2006-03-28 Two blocks walk to Broadway theaters. The same day we went to the theather and got tickets for Mamma Mia the same night. The JW Hotel has a perfect location for people like us interested in Broadway musicals. Restaurants very close and an excellent Italian Trattoria in front. Public transportation and taxis were ready available. Staff very helpful and speak Spanish. Quality of bed, pillows and covers is excellent, same as toiletries. However for two people with much luggage the room was small with no facilities to rest the bags; and the bathroom was tiny. Score 4 out of 5 My review of Washington Jefferson - WJ Hotel Lyndall, Memphis, TN, 2005-12-15 Nice restaurants nearby as well as coffee shops and pizza.Rooms were small but adequate. Nice comforters and pillows. If you stay on the street side, it was noisy, but on the back side it was quiet. Staff was helpful. We were told there was a concierge but there wasn't. Score 5 out of 5 Very Friendly Saundra, Los Angeles, CA, 2005-12-14 The great cafe shop on the corner for quick stop and great restaurants. The Washington Jefferson Hotel was very comfortable. The room was small but it was warm and cozy. The room sized didn't bother us to much--- we were hardly in the room. We did our site seeing of all the great things around the Hotel ( Time Square,Maddison Square, subways, Restaurants, and etc). We had a good stay. Score 2 out of 5 Review Anonymous, Durham/Raleigh, NC, 2005-11-28 No review provided by user Score 4 out of 5 Noisy Patricia, Philadelphia, PA, 2005-09-28 The Italian restaurant across the street was nice and reasonably priced and I was able to sit in their back courtyard on a beautiful fall day.The Washington Jefferson Hotel was fine, but probably not my first choice of a hotel in NYC. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room clean and nicely done. The big disadvantage was the noise -- my room must have been right over the garbage cans on this noisy street which resulted in a sleepless night. Very few rooms were available anyplace in NYC for that evening so prices were very high. |
