Check-In?

Anonymous, 2005-12-19

I never eat fish on Sundays in New York. I made an exception and had incredible sushi from the basement restaurant outside. Delicious. You'll have a difficult time getting a cab in the morning if you have luggage. There is no one to help you. Give yourself a little more time before you have to leave.

This is a great hotel but it is extremely out of the way. I have lived in NY for 25 years and stayed here when a flight was cancelled and I had to be back at the airport in 12 hours. I called this hotel asking for help as to the location. My cab driver and I could not make heads or tails of the streets once we hit the minimall that keeps you from driving south on this street. We could not get the young lady at the front desk to give us a courteous, clear answer. She seemed to think that since she knew how to get to work that we should know how to drive there. I was so frustrated that I considered taking the cab 60 blocks home and forgetting about my reservation! We then got to the front where there were no employees outside of the front door to welcome you. The entire front of the hotel has it's windows covered in paper so that you can't see in. There was a small piece of paper on the closed front door telling you to go around the corner. Of course I was carrying my bags in my arms because there was no one to help me and I couldn't see the sign. I walked around the hotel for 5 minutes before I gave up and called again. I asked the same surly woman where the door was. I was furious at this point. I overheard her say to another employee 'she says that she is behind the hotel'. No one came out to help me even though I knew that I had to be close to an entrance. I walked back and found the door and inside it was a young man reading a newspaper. He looked at me and said 'Oh, I saw you get out of the cab out front but when you walked by I figured that you weren't coming in'. Can you imagine this? With four bags? On a happy note the hotel is clean, comfortable and quiet. Lots of construction going on in the front lobby so I never went to the restaurant or bar. Got great sushi delivered from the place under the hotel. Don't know if they are connected but it was great. Check-out staff more than made up for the insolence encountered upon check-in. Good mornings all around from front desk check-out woman. I will definitely stay here again but it took a while for me to calm down from my first 15 minutes at this hotel. Were these employees having a bad day? Upset because the Jets lost? I hope that the GM of this place knows what a great place this is and that my first impression didn't match the rest of a wonderful stay.

nice rooms

Anonymous, Huntsville, AL, 2005-12-17

The seaport has some good restaurants and has a free shuttle to/from battery park. Only a couple blocks north.

Seaport Suites were under renovation during our stay - they were adding a restaurant and bar, which is much needed. Our family had a 1 BR suite - 1 Queen bed and a fold out sofa bed in the living room. The room was roomy, nicely decorated, and had 1 plasma TVs. The kitchen was nicely furnished. The continental breakfast was nothing more than croissants, pastries, and coffee in a conference room. The location is good for those wanting to explore south manhattan or a business traveller.

My review of Manhattan Seaport Suites

Anonymous, 2005-08-06

Starbucks and shopping. Short walk to Battery Park.

Made reservation 3 months in advance requesting smoking and two beds. At check-in no rooms were available as requested. Had to wait one hour for room change. Toilet did not work properly; maintenance did not come and I ended up fixing it myself. Other than the above two items, the hotel was very clean and neat.

This property represented a comparatively cost-effective opportunity for boarding in NY. No frills but functional and comfortable. Staff were friendly and provided answers to all questions.

All you could want (for Manhattan on a budget)

Anonymous, Portland, ME, 2005-04-03

The Seaport Suites was a GREAT value. The staff were all very helpful, friendly and more than happy to go the extra mile. My suite had absolutely everything that I needed for a 3 day stay. The toiletries and coffee supplies were abundant - the room much bigger than many of my friends' apartments! Everything was as clean as you could expect in such an old building and it appeared that they were about to begin a large renovation, so definetly check it out and see if they have any rooms that have been updated - either way, it was more than satisfactory and, for Manhattan, the room was the size of a palace!
