The new and much-celebrated Blue Moon Hotel on Orchard Street welcomes guests to the Lower East Side. This new, boutique Manhattan hotel leads the resurgence of the landmark old downtown neighborhoods of Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho, the Financial District. The hotel, an outstanding architectural structure, is centrally located on a museum block which more closely represents a back lot from MGM. Walk along cobblestone streets once occupied by push cart vendors, pickle packers, butchers, and bakers, now populated by a host of eclectic shops and a myriad of bars, restaurants and lounges. New York City's historic past has come to life in this authentic yet modern and comfortable neighborhood hotel. The Blue Moon Hotel boasts 22 oversized luxurious rooms between 320 and 750 square feet, complete with lavish bathrooms with deep tubs, some with hydromassage baths, and all with ceilings 10 to 14 feet high. Stretch out in these beautifully-appointed guest rooms, most with balconies with spectacular views. All rooms are named after legends of the 1920's and 30's, and feature historical memorabilia, custom fabrics, flat-screen TVs with cable and remote, table and chairs, 4.5 cubic foot refrigerator with mini bar, closet(s), safe, hair dryer, free WiFi, state-of-the-art heat and air with individual thermostats. Our hotel is conveniently located in the heart of New York's most socially vibrant neighborhood; nearby attractions include the Tenement Museum, South Street Seaport, Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, as well as theaters, galleries, historical houses of worship, or take any of the conveniently located trains: B, D, F, J, M, Z, and arrive in midtown in 5-10 minutes. The Blue Moon Hotel is housed in a renovated tenement building whose soul has been preserved and glorified. 100 Orchard Street now enjoys a glamorous reincarnation as a luxury hotel. In a painterly approach, neither plotted nor planned, the Blue Moon was created using a combination of inspiration and instinct, to create settings for the original details by a trained artist over a five-year period. Hundreds of artifacts, imported glass, marble, granite, faux finishes, work in unison to lend a new breadth and depth not seen before in any of the contemporary hotels.

I found 3 great local resturants all within blocks (the best was called the Orchard) Also easy subway entrance 1 blcok away Score 4 out of 5 Interesting but... Anonymous, 2006-07-26 The bed was very comfortable and the ambience was interesting but there were basically no amenities (not even an ice machine) and the staff was not very professional. Even the air conditioning was not operating correctly. A bit expensive for what they are offering... Score 5 out of 5 Newly renovated with old town flavor. Danielle, 2006-06-25 The Statue of Liberty is a very short subway ride. I recommend the ferry to view the statue up close. This was my first time to visit New York City and wanted a place with character. We were on the historical street of Orchard near the corner of Delancey. We could walk everywhere. The "lower east side" of Manhattan was our location. It was a short walk to the subway and we could go anywhere from there, not having a car. The hotel staff was very helpful in giving us tips, directions, offering to get headache medicine at the little store around the corner, and arranging a ride back to the Newark airport. We got the room I was hoping for. It could have used a lamp beside the bed, but I was too tired at the end of the day to read, anyway. The bathroom was very clean with a big deep bathtub. They had extra toothbrushes and toothpaste for the guests. A coffee bar is provided, no option of decaf coffee. I would have liked 4 cup servings packets instead of 8 for the 4 cup coffee pot. I really liked this hotel and would stay here again. Score 4 out of 5 New Lower East Side Boutique Hotel Richard, Nashville, TN, 2006-05-12 There is a wonderful Mexican restaurant located just a short walk from the hotel. It's very tiny (no more than 5-8 tables), but the food is delicious. The chips and guacamole were wonderful, and they have an excellent selection of unique margaritas. The name of the place is called el Bocadito. The Blue Moon Hotel provided nice, large rooms with refrigerator and sink in the general living area. In addition, a table and two chairs were provided to complete some work. The bathroom was very clean, with nice towels and new furnishings. There was no room service and not even a vending machine to be found. Also, no iron was available in the rooms. Since this is a newer hotel, I'm surethey are still working out some issues. This hotel is located on the Lower East Side, and there are a few quaint cafes and restaurants around, especially if you head north on Orchard St. Becuase of its location close to the Williamsburgh Bridge, it's a good alternative for anyone that is spending time in Brooklyn for business or pleasure. Score 5 out of 5 Great lower east side getaway Connie, Minneapolis, MN, 2006-05-04 Fine & Klein, purveyors of fine hand bags, on Orchard street, across Delancy from the Hotel! The coffee shop at 88 Orchard (I think), 1/2 block south of the Hotel, makes great coffee and great pressed sandwiches for a quick breakfast. The Blue Moon Hotel is very charming and comfortable. The room was very nicely appointed in period style furnishings. Despite the fact that I stayed in one of the least expensive rooms, on the 2nd floor, it was definitely one of the larger NYC hotel rooms I have stayed in. Another pleasant surprise is the relative quiet of the neighborhood compared with the constant commotion that represents the midtown Manhattan experience. The entire hotel continues the restored tenement theme with charming and classy attention to details. The only thing I would improve on in the room would be to suggest the addition of a nightstand with a lamp next to the bed. Otherwise, the entire experience at the Blue Moon Hotel was flawless. Score 4 out of 5 Great, history-filled clean rooms Sheila, Las Vegas, NV, 2006-04-23 The Blue Moon takes you back to another period in New York. The theme filled rooms are clean, bright, and well furbished froma time 50 years ago. The area is booming and for those familiar and comfortable with a gentrifying community it is great. The only drawbackwas the rooms were too warm. Score 5 out of 5 very confortable Cynthia, 2006-04-23 There are many places to eat and socialize within a short walk fro the hotel. The Blue Moon was a charming hotel. The rooms were very pleasant and comforable. The staff was friendly and it seemed like even though it was very newly opened that it was well run. Because of the small size not many amenities were offered in the hotel but it's location offered plenty of places to go and dine. I found it to be like staying in European hotel. Very nice hotel! |
