Convenient routing for major attractions in Utica, NY.For the location and lack of advance notice for reservations, Motel 6 in Utica, NY was neat and convenient to our planned attractions for this visit. The hotel staff seemed to get along as friends and welcomed conversation. We made reservations specifically for a room with two double beds in a smoking room. We checked in and when we got to the room, it only had one bed. We had to go back to the front desk where they "corrected" the mistake and gave us another room with two beds. My reservation clearly stated that I wanted a smoking room. We didn't notice the small "non smoking room" sticker on the door and saw that there was an ashtray in the room so we assumed it was a smoking room but the minute we lit a cigarette, the alarm went off and we had to call the front desk to have it turned off. We had already unpacked and didn't want to repack to go to a different room so we stayed there. The clerk on duty told us that that was the senior citizen's rate but we didn't see that written anywhere. The towels were very thin and rough, the room was dirty, and the cleaning staff was extremely noisy in the halls in the morning, yelling in foreign languages etc. Not thrilled for with this hotel at all.
