At the edge of Santa Fe's downtown district you can find a group of uniquely decorated 1930's era pueblo and territorial style bungalows, some with kitchens and kiva fireplaces. Each of our Casitas and rooms at Dancing Ground of the Sun has been decorated with handcrafted Southwestern-Style furniture made by local craftspeople. Each is classically decorated and named after a fanciful figure from the rich lore and past of the area. Voted 'most local charm' by the Santa Fean Magazine.
Most recent user reviewsScore 4 out of 5 Breakfast in the Twilight Zone Anonymous, Los Angeles, CA, 2006-06-04 The plaza is only a couple of blocks away with sightseeing, dining, shopping, and bars all there. The Dancing Ground of the Sun is a decent little place. The room was really nice and the bathroom was nice sized. It is in a great location to walk to the Plaza and restaurants in the area. The lady in the hotel office seems like she hates her job though. She is not very friendly, nor helpful. She seemed to be there morning, noon, and night so maybe she is the only one working and is just tired. But customer service was not her strong suit. This is a bed and Breakfast. They supposedly serve continental breakfast. When I think of continental breakfast, I think pastries, fruit, juice, coffee, maybe some cereal. There were no pastries, the only fruit was a small half of watermelon sitting way in the corner on a plate on top of dishes meant to be dried. They had a waffle iron to make your own waffles and that was about it. It was hard to find anything in there, and the lady, as usual, was NOT HELPFUL and a little angry that we were asking her questions! I have never had breakfast make me feel so uncomfortable, I felt like I was in the twilight zone. The other guests seemed just as dazed, confused and uncomfy. That was the first morning, and we never went back. If you want a place that is clean and central to the plaza, This is a decent location. But I suggest eating somewhere else for breakfast! Rachel, Dallas, TX, 2006-06-03 Lots of lovely shops nearby as well as great, but expensive, restaurants. The Dancing Ground of the Sun was good in that it was a clean place to sleep while in Santa Fe. The room was nicely decorated and had a lovely fireplace, which I placed candles in at night. I had expected at least a mini-fridge in my room, but there was nothing, so I had go buy an ice chest and ice every day because the only ice machine in the place was in the kitchen and it was a household ice machine. This was not too much of a problem, though, because some places just don't have fridges in the room. The majority of my problem with this hotel had to do with the staff. I had asked for an iron and ironing board for my room during breakfast (which, by the way is from 8-10am, no exceptions, even if you have a conference starting at 7!). The lady at the morning desk said she'd look. By 2:30 I didn't have them, so I called the front desk and asked for the iron and ironing board to be sent to my room and I was told that they could not find one for me, but were still looking. By 7:30 I decided to go to the front desk and ask again. The lady at the desk at that time was very nice and did her best to find an iron and ironing board for me. The problem was, the earlier ladies did not even bother to look in the store room, because that is where the iron was! After a bit of investigating in the vacant rooms (took a total of 5 minutes!) we found an ironing board. It just didn't seem like the ladies at the morning and afternoon shift even tried. That was a mistake. Even though the price was a good $50 less than the conference hotel, I may consider paying the extra money. After all, you get what you pay for... Score 4 out of 5 very authentic Anonymous, Midland, TX, 2006-04-29 We were fairly close to the Plaza but if, you plan on eating late, you could be in trouble as it seems resturants close quite early.Although the rooms were what we expected, there was nobody there to meet us. we had to go to another location to get our keys. The room had a kitchenette and there was food from the last tenants in the refrigerator and the coffee pot had not been cleaned. The rest of the room was very clean, the beds were very comfortable and the location was great. We had wanted to stay in a hotel with authentic New Mexico flavor and we were very pleased. Even with the above complaints, we would stay here again. Score 5 out of 5 My review of Dancing Ground of the Sun Michelle, San Francisco, CA, 2005-04-15 It was indeed a pleasure to stay at Dancing Ground of the sun. Easy stroll to the heart of Santa Fa! Thank you to everyone there. |
