During your Albuquerque vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Albuquerque Biological Park: Aquarium and Botanic Garden
For those of us born and raised in the desert, this attraction quenches years of soul thirst. The self-guided aquarium tour begins with a beautifully produced 9-minute film that describes the course of the Rio Grande from its origin to the Gulf Coast. Then, you'll move on to the touch pool, where at certain times of day you can gently touch hermit crabs and starfish. You'll pass by a replica of a salt marsh, where a gentle tidal wave moves in and out, and you'll explore the eel tank, an arched aquarium you get to walk through. There's a colorful coral-reef exhibit, as well as the culminating show, in a 285,000-gallon shark tank, where many species of fish and 15 to 20 sand-tiger, brown, and nurse sharks swim around, looking ominous.Within a state-of-the-art 10,000-square-foot conservatory, you'll find the botanical garden, split into two sections. The smaller one houses the desert collection and features plants from the lower Chihuahuan and Sonoran deserts, including unique species from Baja, California. The larger pavilion exhibits the Mediterranean collection and includes many exotic species native to the Mediterranean climates of southern California, South Africa, Australia, and the Mediterranean Basin. Allow at least 2 hours to see both parks. There is a restaurant on the premises. In December, you can see the "River of Lights Holiday Light Display" Tuesday through Sunday; and June through August you can attend Thursday evening concerts.
Indian Pueblo Cultural Center
Owned and operated as a nonprofit organization by the 19 pueblos of New Mexico, this is a fine place to begin an exploration of Native American culture. Located about a mile northeast of Old Town, this museum -- modeled after Pueblo Bonito, a spectacular 9th-century ruin in Chaco Culture National Historic Park -- consists of several parts.Begin your exploration in the basement, where a permanent exhibit depicts the evolution of the various pueblos from prehistory to present, including displays of the distinctive handcrafts of each community. Note especially how pottery differs in concept and design from pueblo to pueblo. You'll also find a small screening room where you can see films of some of New Mexico's most noted Native American artists making their wares, including San Ildefonso potter María Martinez, firing her pottery with open flames. The Pueblo House Children's Museum, located in a separate building, is a hands-on experience that gives children the opportunity to learn about and understand the evolution of Pueblo culture. There they can touch pot shards, play with heishi (shell) drills, and even don fox tails and dance.Upstairs in the main building is an enormous (10,000-sq.-ft.) gift shop featuring fine pottery, rugs, sand paintings, kachinas, drums, and jewelry, among other things. Southwestern clothing and souvenirs are also available. Prices here are quite reasonable.Every weekend throughout the year, Native American dancers perform at 11am and 2pm in an outdoor arena surrounded by original murals. Often, artisans demonstrate their crafts there as well. During certain weeks of the year, such as the Balloon Fiesta, dances are performed daily.A restaurant serves traditional Native American foods. I wouldn't eat a full meal here, but it's a good place for some Indian fry bread and a bowl of posole.
Old Town
A maze of cobbled courtyard walkways leads to hidden patios and gardens, where many of Old Town's 150 galleries and shops are located. Adobe buildings, many refurbished in the pueblo revival style of the 1950s, are grouped around the tree-shaded plaza, created in 1780. Pueblo and Navajo artisans often display their pottery, blankets, and silver jewelry on the sidewalks lining the plaza. The buildings of Old Town once served as mercantile shops, grocery stores, and government offices, but the importance of Old Town as Albuquerque's commercial center declined after 1880, when the railroad came through 1 1/4 miles east of the plaza and businesses relocated to be closer to the trains. Old Town clung to its historical and sentimental roots, but the quarter fell into disrepair until the 1930s and 1940s, when artisans and other shop owners rediscovered it and the tourism industry burgeoned. When Albuquerque was established in 1706, the first building erected by the settlers was the Church of San Felipe de Neri, which faces the plaza on its north side. It's a cozy church with wonderful stained-glass windows and vivid retablos (religious paintings). This house of worship has been in almost continuous use for nearly 300 years.Though you'll wade through a few trinket and T-shirt shops on the plaza, don't be fooled: Old Town is an excellent place to shop. Look for good buys from the Native Americans selling jewelry on the plaza, especially silver bracelets and strung turquoise. If you want to take something fun home and spend very little, buy a dyed corn necklace. Your best bet when wandering around Old Town is to just peek into shops, but there are a few places you'll definitely want to spend time. An excellent Old Town historic walking tour originates at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History at 11am Tuesday to Sunday during spring, summer, and fall. Plan to spend 2 to 3 hours strolling around.

not worth the trouble

David

There is alot to do in Albuequrque, NM. With in about a twenty minute drive you can go to the casino and gamble if that is what you enjoy.

Well the over all experience was not worth the price. However, there were a few little things that bothered my wife and I. The bathroom was not satisfactorily cleaned, ie; there were still pubic hairs on the commode! And the bathroom light took about twenty minutes to turn on! We thought it just didn't work but we accidently left the switch on and it finally came on later. Also, the mattress on the king size bed was badly worn and we both didn't sleep very well. With all that said, the Comfort Inn was not a very good hotel!

It's Ok for the price.

Two really good 24 hour waffle house's on either side of the hotel

The morning brunch was great. The rooms however were just Ok and a little cold at night. But for a travel stop over and for the price it's a good option.

Comfortable and convenient

Anonymous, Albuquerque, NM, 2006-10-19

The airport parking shuttle was just down the street.

The Comfort Inn Airport Albuquerque was very convenient. I only had a few hours to rest up before a flight. The proximity to the parking shuttle and airport made for a less stressful trip. There were several nice restaurants nearby and I was able to take a tasty meal back to my room (it was getting rather late). The hotel itself was clean and comfortable, and I can be very picky. Having internet access was a bonus and unlike other hotel stays, there was no problem getting online easily.

Dingy Lacking Maintenance

Anonymous, Kansas City, MO, 2006-10-16

The drain for the bathroom sink would release all of it's water through the P-trap onto the carpet below the counter. We asked for this to be fixed on our first night there and got no response, we asked twice more and still got no response, so when we left 4 nights later we had the person checking us out file a maintenance request. We were traveling with a 6 month old child and this was very unhygenic, plus anything near that sink got wet when you released the plug. We lived with the ice bucket under the sink to catch the water, which the cleaners kept removing without us realizing, so we kept having water on the floor. In addition to the sink problem, the water in the shower would take 10 minutes to drain from the tub, after you had turned off the water. Overall the hotel felt like it had not had any maintenance done in a very long time. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean, but the blanket was rough and threadbare. I would not stay here again, and I would not recommend it to others.

Great airport location

Anonymous, Norfolk, VA, 2006-10-10

A friendly, family-style restaurant is right next door to the hotel; a safe 2 minute walk from any rooms.

The Comfort Inn Airport Albuquerque is in a great location for easy access to the the rental car return facilities and the airport. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the hotel felt safe. Restaurants are within easy walking distance. The elevator was out of order during my brief stay, but we were told of the problem at check-in and told that repair persons were on the way; the hotel staff was very cordial and offered to help carry baggage to upper floors. I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

Very friendly and hospitable

RICHARD, Philadelphia, PA, 2006-09-30

Plenty of Restaurants literally within walking distance to the hotel.

The Comfort Inn at the airport in Albuquerque was more then adequate for an airport hotel. They had a very friendly and competent staff. The hotel was located less then 3 minutes to the airport with easy access to the airport.

we are ""bugged"

Anonymous, El Paso, TX, 2006-08-31

A Village Inn and a Waffle House were very close. A longer walk, or short drive away, there was a Fuddrucker's.

The morning after our first night, my husband found a bug in the bed. It was dead, however, it was alive at one time. The bathroom floor was not clean and there were 2 small, dead bugs on the floor for w days. The cleaning staff certainly needed more direction. On the plus side, the breakfast was more than adequate and the attendant was continuously cleaning the tables and the serving area.

Not satisfied

Gary, Las Cruces, NM, 2005-11-05

Upon checkin I ask that my reservation be credited to my Southwest rapid rewards program. I was informed that this stay did not qualify for the credit, I have stayed at a lot of Comfort hotels for more money and less money and I have always recieved SW credits. I then asked for a reciept showing the rate and the 0 balance, I was told you paid a third party and I cannot give you a reciept. Just not the most freindly reception I hgave had. She did advise me that there were other Choice Hotel Properties in the area for my next stay.

more amenities needed

Anonymous, Oakland, CA, 2005-10-30

Property sits between two restaurants (Waffle House, Village Inn) so food is not a problem. Fuddrucker's and Applebee's are within a couple hundred yards.

Other motel/hotels in the airport area advertise free wireless internet. The Comfort Inn still had wired internet (ok for speed) but needed a deposit. The continental breakfast was also not up to the neighboring hotel's standards. I did not compare room rates, but overall, I use a hotel for sleep and don't need a lot of amenities, but wanted others to know in advance.
