Most recent user reviewsScore 1 out of 5 Never Again Susan, Newark, NJ This Howard Johnson Inn is a poorly run, shabby place. The front door opens only half-way, so getting my suitcase, laptop bag, attache, and a what-not bag through was very difficult. The deadbolt on my door didn't work, but was told the hotel was "very secure anyway so "don't worry", the tub'shower had black mold around the rim where the tub meets the wall, the bed was short-sheeted so you woke up sleeping on the bare matress. The TV didn't work at all when I first got there, and the desk clerk came up to fiddle with the connections to fix it. The TV remote didn't work except to change channels. On/off and volume had to be done by hand. Altough there was a refridgerator and a microwave in the room, only the fridge could be plugged in because of a lack of plugs. On my way out of the hotel the first morning of my two day business trip, a women behind the desk yelled "You checking ou?", I said no, but when I returned that evening, my key card didn't work and I had to go back down to the desk to have it reprogrammed. I will never stay there again. Score 2 out of 5 Review Anonymous, Portland, ME There is an odd odor to the hotel -- we don't know what it is. The hotel was reasonably clean. Score 5 out of 5 Convenient Anonymous, 2006-06-07 Very Close to the MeadowlandsThis hotel was very convenient to use for getting in and out of NY City without having to stay in the ghetto. The IHOP attached was excellent. Score 1 out of 5 Review Anonymous, 2005-12-06 No review provided by user Score 1 out of 5 Poor hotel Anonymous, 2005-10-20 Absolutly nothing nearby. No conveniance stores, restarants, shopping etc.Lobby smelled. Room smelled worse. Room had blackflies, fruit flies etc, dirty carpet etc. Housekeeping was poor. Bathroom smelled like urine all week. Exhaust fan didn't work. TV worked sporadically. Only 8 channels (advertised as cable?) and 2 or 3 never really worked. Lots of noise in hallway. Never again. Score 2 out of 5 Bare Minimum Anonymous, Newark, NJ, 2005-09-14 The secaucus outlets are a short drive away. IHOP was in the same parking lot.The only good thing about this hotel was its location and friendly staff. The room was spacious however not very clean. I felt that the room had not been cleaned after the last guest. There was no internet access except for dial-up, no fitness center, and the pool had been closed all season because of a crack. Basically stay here if you absolutely must. The room keys would not work properly so every night I had to go to the front desk and get it reprogrammed.
