During your Charlotte vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Mint Museum of Art
With the recently added Dalton Wing, this stately museum displays a fine survey of European and American art, as well as the internationally recognized Delhom Collection of porcelain and pottery. Also featured are pre-Columbian art, contemporary American prints, African objects, vast collections of costumes and antique maps, and gold coins originally minted at the facility. New galleries exhibit studio glass and pottery from North Carolina studios. An admission ticket also gains you admittance to the Mint Museum of Craft & Design (220 N. Tryon St.).
Discovery Place & the Nature Museum
Discovery Place is one of the top hands-on science and technology museums in the region. This uptown center features such permanent exhibits as a tropical rain forest and an aquarium. There's also an OMNIMAX theater. The static-electricity demonstration, which literally makes your hair stand on end, is a perennial favorite. Temporary exhibits on loan from other science centers keep the place forever changing.
Wing Haven Gardens & Bird Sanctuary
Since 1927, one of Charlotte's special attractions, created by Elizabeth and Edwin Clarkson, has been a 3-acre enclosed area in the heart of a residential neighborhood. Mrs. Clarkson was known as the city's "bird lady." Some 142 winged species have been sighted in the walled garden, which was once a bare clay field. Birders and garden lovers will have a field day as they browse through the Upper, Lower, Main, Wild, Herb, and Rose gardens. The gardens are at their most splendid in the spring, when birds are returning from their winter migration. A bulletin board tells you which birds are around at the moment.

A reasonable place to sleep

Anonymous

There are 2 restaurants which serve breakfast and dinner next door.

The Days Inn in Charlotte was a reasonable place to sleep. We had business in the area. We arrived the evening before and left in the morning. The continential breakfast was not great; mostly muffins and danish. Would have preferred to have toast, bagels, and or something with less sugar. The room was clean and pretty well lit. The exception was the carpet which was a little dirty. The TV worked well and the channel selection was limited. There are several good restaurants in the area.

Not enough staff

Anonymous, Philadelphia, PA, 2007-03-02

It had a nice quiet location. We had to switch rooms when we got there because our room was a non-smoking room but when we walked in the room all you could smell was smoke. The next room we were in had a big water bug in the room. There was only one cleaning person and she came early in the morning banging on the door waking us up. I would not recommend this hotel if your looking for comfort.

Hotel Staff/Check-in

Anonymous, 2007-02-10

Staff and check-in/out were very efficient. Room heat/cold unit was excellent. We had to ask for more towels (only 1 set for 3 adults), and there were no wash cloths in the room and were not available at the front desk. The clerk gave use hand towels to use instead. Considering the hotel next door had the same rates and 100 channels on TV our 25 stations left a lot to be desired. The Continental breakfast was very lacking. When we went down (8:00am) there as only a minimal selection of pastries, no juice, 2 cereals, no milk (but there were milk flasks), and that was about it. We decided to go out. The best part of the stay was definitely the people.

nice

The cookout across the street had very good food.

The room and the hotel itself was ok for the money, but it seemed to be in a bad part of town

Good Place For a Weekend Getaway

Michele, 2006-06-25

Coyote Joe's is a country club located off 85 South at exit 33. If you are into the country atmosphere it is a great place, and you get to see people do line dances and many other things go on as well.

The Days Inn that me and my fiance recently stayed at was a great place to just get away for the weekend together. The staff was friendly. I would definitely stay there again. It was cheap and I feel we got our moneys worth for the stay.

Never Again

Nascar, Lowes Motor speedway

We had the worst time of our lives. We could not get clean towels. My daughter found a xxx dvd in a drawer. My son cut his foot at the beach the second day of our stay, and we asked the cleaning lady if she would change the sheets because he got blood on the sheets. The cleaning lady said that we could close the door that she could'nt get to it . we had to get our own bathroom tissue because they never cleaned our room the whole time we were there. The cops were even walking around the hotel one evening , maybe looking for someone or something. We were all pretty scared and we checked out early . I was never so worried about our safety so we left . I will never stay there again.
