Worth the Walk

Anonymous, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 2007-02-25

Plan to valet your car and keep it in for your first night - there a good restaurants nearby, and you won't have to drive after a long day.

The only problem for the entire weekend was the parking out front -- we had to take a lap around the block before there was enough room in valet for us to stop and unload -- but we only had that happen once all weekend. Check-in staff was excellent, and very helpful. The room was spacious, but not huge - and the beds were very comfortable. Like all legacy hotels, there aren'e enough power outlets to run the phone chargers and laptops, let alone Iron; a power strip at the desk would be much appreciated. The wireless or high-speed ethernet is 10. dollars a day. Take the time to enjoy the train station -- which is in a separate building from the hotel rooms, across the covered atrium/mall with the check-in and restaurant: It's one of the finest restorations of a guilded age train station in North America - rivaled only by Grand Central in NYC, in my opinion. Don't miss the whispering arch at the hotel entrance -- even the big kids will find this interesting. The hotel restaurant, in which we only ate breakfast (twice) has real appeal; most of the wait staff was excellent, but the omelette chef never got the order quite rite (due to the language barrier - Russian?). The coffee and service on the floor was excellent. Worth it for the atmosphere alone. The hotel is a fair walk to the riverfront - about 5-10 minutes; but with all the things to do (restaurants, shops, etc...) at the hotel, it was worth staying away from the water and the Arch. I was told at the front desk that the season starts at the end of March and goes through October (roughly baseball season), so expect higher rates during that time.

A lobby of grand beauty

John, 2006-11-25

If you are going to visit the Saint Louis Metropolitan Area a stay at the Saint Louis Missouri, Hyatt Regency Saint Louis at Union Station would be worth your consideration. My satisfaction with the hotel comes primarily from the magnificent lobby which helps place it in the Historic Hotels of America, 2006 Directory. The lobby features a six-story barrel valted ceiling, molded plasted detailing on walls and ceiling, bas-reliefs, and Tiffany Stain Glass. It is a grand space that would enhance the experience of a meal or a drink. Piano music fills the room. My son played the grand piano filling the room with beautiful music. The hotel is just minutes away from almost any of the major event centers in Saint Louis. I attended the Dale Chihuly exhibit at the Missouri Botanical Gardens which is well worth a visit and an exhibit at the Saint Louis Art Museum featuring the echings of Rembrant. Saint Louis offers a host of free or relatively inexpensive activities. I stayed in a business suite which was relatively spacious over looking an enclosed court yard. Being winter their was not much to see and the pool seemed closed. The bathroom and shower seemed cleaner than most and I saw no mold in the shower. The shops inside the old train station did not appeal to me but held items that could be taken home as rememberences of the visit. The shopping area featured a food court that would accomodate a variety of tastes but the premere experience would be a meal or drink in the lobby of the hotel which once served the busiest railroad station in the world during the 1890's.

You are right inside Union Station so the shops and restaurants are right downstairs!

I was happy with the room and comfort.

Union Station

Jeanne, Chicago, IL, 2006-07-12

There seemed to be a ton of ammenities within Union Station so you would not have to go too far to enjoy shopping, food, etc.

The Union Station Hyatt has a great location but I was very disappointed with the room. The toilet was dirty, the shower had a ton of hair in the drain(which was not mine) the towels looked dingy. The pillow cases had make-up on them(again not mine) I only stayed one night so I would be willing to give it another try.

Very friendly stuff!

Agata, Dayton, OH, 2006-05-29

The location is great! It seems to be pretty close to everything, we walked to the Arch and the Park at Mississippi river bank. The hotel itself is in the Union Station - there is some historical part and lots of shops and few great places to eat out!

Hyatt Regency St. Louis was very great place to stay. The stuff there was very friendly and helpful with every single thing. The rooms were comfortable and clean. We had everything we needed!

Unique Property in an Old Train Station

great up and coming area with new restaurants and stores

The Hyatt Regency St Louis is a beautiful property in an old train station in downtown St Louis. It was very clean, quiet and the staff was exceptionally friendly. When I return to St Louis, I will look to stay here again. I would recommend it to anyone.

Grand History

Marcia, Orange County, CA, 2006-03-13

There was a garden mall at the site, a park across the street and the Gateway Arch, art museum and other historic attractions within walking distance.

The Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown St. Louis was very comfortable. Although the room decor needs updating, it was spacious, had a nice size desk, comfortable bed, adequate closet space, and a TV and remote that worked well. I liked the large bathroom and separate toilet area, however, it was a little short on counter space and the toilet was in need of maintenance--after flushing, it continued to run until the handle was jiggled. The preservation of the Grand Hall and Tiffany stained glass window were majestically beautiful. Room service was timely and the food was very good. The valet service was very efficient. Overall, I enjoyed the accommodations and would recommend the hotel to others.
