We are home to Bear Track Landing, Michigans largest indoor waterpark at over 38,000 square feet. The indoor waterpark features Fort MacKenzie, a 4-story, 12 level Treefort with over 60 guest activated water effects, topped with our huge Tipping Bucket that fills with 1,000 gallons of water and dumps every few minutes. Once on top, you can escape down one of our 200-foot body slides or continue to explore the Treefort using its cargo netting and suspension bridges. The waterpark features the Howlin Wolf, a family raft slide, 2 large tube slides, 2 body slides, and 3 kiddie slides. In addition we have a zero-entry childrens pool with interactive toys, an activity pool with water basketball, 2 large oversized hot tubs and an endless Lazy River. In the summer months, you will find Thunder Bay, our outdoor, oversized activity pool that ranges from 0 to 4 feet deep and is complete with water basketball and kiddie activities. In addition to our indoor waterpark, you will find the Northern Lights arcade with over 100 redemption arcade games and Bikos 3-D Theater, an interactive virtual reality game for the entire family. Located just down the hall is our Cub Club, an activity area designed for parents and children to do crafts and play. The lodge offers two Northwoods themed family restaurants, Camp Critter and The Loose Moose Cottage. We also have our waterpark snack bar Spirit Island ? and a must for everyone is the Bear Claw Caf', featuring Starbucks Coffees, fresh baked pastries and homemade fudge. Be sure to pamper yourself at Elements, the Aveda Concept Spa and Salon located just outside the waterpark. You can treat yourself to therapeutic massage, facial or a spa nail treatment. Hairstyling and treatments are also available. Most spa services take approximately an hour and reservations are recommended. View Buffalo Ridge, our very own Buffalo viewing and picnic, area, where you can see over 30 buffalo in their natural environment.

I really had no intention of staying at G.W. Lodge, but everything in Traverse City was packed (Film Fest-- who knew?). Our daughter had seen ads for G.W. Lodge back home (they just opened a lodge in VA), and she was dying to go, so I thought I'd surprise her. The rates weren't much more than the run-of-the-mill hotel rooms (in fact, the night I arrived in Traverse City, I stayed in one of the worst rooms EVER, for an outrageous sum, when compared to GWL). Considering how many kids were there, the place was quite clean, and quiet at night. The room was lovely (about as big as my first apartment!) and I appreciated the microwave and fridge in the room, so we could save some $$ on food. And, of course, she LOVED the waterpark! (Yeah, I admit, I liked it too!) Would make a nice little mini-vacation (two nights for us was plenty).
