During your Dearborn vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Motown Historical Museum
The Motown sound was born in two simple houses under the sign HITSVILLE U.S.A., and American music has never been the same. See the original control room and studio (with linoleum worn through by tapping feet) where the Supremes, the Temptations, Stevie Wonder, the Jackson 5, and many others made gold records from 1959 to 1972. Also on display are costumes worn by the famous performers; and Berry Gordy's apartment, left just the way it was in the 1960s when artists packed their records for shipment throughout the country. Allow 1 hour.
Detroit Historical Museum
Begin your exploration of Detroit with this repository of the city's history. You can walk a re-created cobblestone and brick street lined with 19th-century shops, and check out the two-story assembly line in the Motor City exhibit. Interactive displays entertain children of all ages. Allow 1 to 2 hours.
Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History
In the mid-1800s, Detroit was a key stop on the Underground Railroad, through which thousands of slaves escaped to Canada. This and other aspects of African-American heritage, from African roots through slavery and civil rights struggles, are celebrated at the world's largest museum of African and African-American history and culture. Allow 1 hour.

I was in love with the street and the quaintness of the building. The room had a wonderful veiw of Comerica Park and Ford Field. The bed was comfortable, the bath was small but perfect for what I needed.

some great restaurants close, but hotel is not satisfactory. There is a great hotel down the street (Hilton Garden INN) where I ended up staying.
Badly maintained, poor neighborhood
Kathi, 2005-11-27
We stopped at the hotel and were very wary of the outside appearance, as it was in bad need of repair. Once in the lobby, it looked even worse. Rooms apparently are rented by the week as well as the night and there were mailslots for the quests who lived there. The lobby was very dirty and old looking. We waited 20 minutes for someone to show up at the desk and then she didn't even say any thing for keeping us waiting. I asked to see a room before checking in and was given a key. We boarded an ancient elevator and rose slowly to the 7th floor. We were unable to open the room with the key we were given and the lock looked like it had been jimmed a few times. Needless to say we did not stay there!! We were left to find another hotel in am unfamiliar area on our own. The neighborhood was poor, the hotel was worse.

the melnor is downtown and close to most of the sporting stadiuns For the Tigers & Lions Joe Lewis arena For the Red Wings or Concerts is one of the stops on the people mover.
The Melnor Hotel is an older property and was very cool. We had a small room but it was cozzy nice and warm & clean. the bathroom was tiny but worked. it was verry close 1 block to the people mover (elivated railway)that got us to where we needed to go. The front desk staff were great check in and out were a breeze. Thanks Melnor.
