Most recent user reviewsScore 2 out of 5 Excellent Location for Jazz Festival Juanita, Washington, DC, 2006-09-05 The "people mover", (tram) was only a block away and 4 stops from Greektown, the greatest array of restaurants. The Ponchartrain hotel is in an excellent location for the Detroit Jazz Festival at the Hart Center. The view was great and the room was small but satisfactory. It had a queen size bed, a desk and a table with 2 chairs. My disatisfaction with the hotel was due to the fact that it is undergoing severe renovations! Many floors and some of the rooms on my floor were gutted. There was loud drilling and a fire alarm that frequently went off in the day time. However the staff was very caring and attentive. Score 2 out of 5 It will be great when finished when work is done! Leonard, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 2006-09-04 Great location for visiting the downtown area!It was my first time at this location. It great and easy to get around. Once they have renovated it and gotten it in great shape then they will get the business and hopefully continue doing Excellent! Score 4 out of 5 Ok Vito, 2006-09-03 the restraunts and Jazz festival were well within walking distance. It will get better I am sure as the renovations are closer to being completed. Score 4 out of 5 Good location, friendly staff but.... Allen, New York, NY, 2006-08-26 Renaissance center, convention centers, hockey stadium, the redone riverfront with its view of Windsor, Canada, the upgraded main streets and urban parks are all easy walks. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The downtown, centalized location was great. The hotel however was undergoing extensive renovation and the hotel restaurant was only available for breakfast. The lobby is old style, imposing and clean but the elevators were seedy looking and whole floors were out of commission with the work being done. Vending machines often didn't work at all, or didn't work properly. The entrances were a mess at both doors. Work crews were frequently coming and going in the elevators. They were frendly and polite but you were dealing with people who were very dirty from the work they were doing and riding with them in somewhat small elevators. The room we were in was clean and properly secure, although a little small with a tight bathroom. There was no little refrigerator which would have allowed you to bring back and store food from meals in nearby restaurants which proved wasteful and expensive on several occasions. Still, everything else in the area would have been far more expensive. Rehab is supposed to end in October but I doubht that will be the case. Score 4 out of 5 Good place Anonymous, 2006-07-18 Lots of fun dining nearby. Cool stuff to see in the city. don't valet park - its $20 a night!!!The hotel was very nice with beautiful view of the city. However, a renovation was undergoing and kinda disturbing. The elevators went out for a bit and I got lost trying to exit through the stairs. Neither the bar nor the restaurant were open, which disappointed me. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were spacious and clean. I am looking foward to the renovation being finished and would stay again and definitely recommend this place to another. Score 2 out of 5 cobo arena stay jason, Muskegon, MI, 2006-07-07 a couple decent restaurants nearby and casinos are just a short cab ridei was displeased with the 20$ charge for parking .to summorize the location was ideal for my situation"attending a concert at cobo arena across the street and a trip to the casino afterwards which was a 5$ cab ride"but the 25 minute check in process and also the hotel bar and restaurant not being open was a little inconvenient as well. Score 1 out of 5 Review Anonymous, 2006-06-20 No review provided by user Score 3 out of 5 Small room Anonymous, Lansing, MI, 2006-06-15 The room wasn't much bigger than a standared dorm room but the location was great and we weren't in the room much so it didn't matter. If your looking to spend time in the room you may feel a little cramped after a while. Score 1 out of 5 Horrible Hotel Anonymous, 2006-05-30 We checked in for a total of 3 hours and I got very ill and had to check out.Besides being very Ill, the hotel was in horrible condition... we asked for a nonsmoking room which we got, however, every other room on the floor was smoking so the smell of smoke was everywhere and for someone who is very smoke sensitive, this was not good for someone who was ill. The toliet did not flush at all (I tried at least 20x), remote didnt work, high speed internet was not working and the hotel would not help. I will never reserve another room at this hotel again. Score 1 out of 5 Should not be open during renovation Sandra, Pittsburgh, PA, 2006-05-30 The Hotel Ponchartrain was probably, in its day, a very nice place. However, it is very run down and in the middle of renovation. The lobby was stifling hot when we checked in, and a guest was waiting for towels to soak and put on the fan given to her, since the air conditioning did not work in her room (our room did, thankfully, but we heard many complaints from others during our stay that theirs did not, and we were there during temperatures in the 90's). The room was pretty sad. Drapes falling off of the filthy windows, mystery stains on the ceiling and carpeting and we could not get the "free wireless internet" to work. There was no bathtub, just a tiny shower stall. Linens and towels were clean. The elevators were very slow, and hot. One had what appeared to be vomit on it for a couple of days. All this said, we did encounter a wonderful employee that was very pleasant and did well with what she had to work with in cleaning our room. The location was also good for the music festival we were attending in Hart Plaza. I would not recommend staying at this property until, the renovations are complete. |
