Most recent user reviewsScore 5 out of 5 Review Anonymous there is a governors restaurant within walking distance great breakfast optionsScore 5 out of 5 My review of Howard Johnson Hotel - South Portland Anonymous, San Antonio, TX, 2006-10-11 The Howard Johnson Hotel - So. Portland, ME - was very close to the major highways in the area. The two computers in the lobby which were available to hotel guests were very useful in obtaining Mapquest information for the area. It was only about a 10 minute drive to Portland ME. The hotel was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. Score 2 out of 5 Mixed bag ... Anonymous, 2005-11-26 The hotel is a good value - no question - and it is clean, the staff friendly and so on. We stay there despite our concerns because of the hotel's location near a number of family members and activities important to us. Because of the hotel's price and location near the highway, it attracts families traveling with small children, high school tours and so on. More than once we were disturbed by revelry in the hallways or screaming kids (whom the hotel staff were not able to quiet down). At 2.00 am, this is very discouraging. It is also disappointing that the new restaurant going in next door to the hotel is a Mexican restaurant, not suitable or open for breakfast, which leaves only Dunkin Donuts or Governors....both adequate and nearby ... but in a pouring rainstorm, very inconvenient. Score 4 out of 5 Good value for area Anonymous, Bangor, ME, 2005-10-15 This hotel is in the process of remodeling and the restaurant was closed, but one could see the progress that was being made. This hotel is within close driving distance to the Maine Mall, airport, Old Port, and colleges. The only downfall was that we had to stay in smoking rooms instead of the nonsmoking which we preferred. The smoking rooms really had the odor of cigarette smoke. Compared to other hotels in the area, the cost was relatively inexpensive for the facility. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Score 4 out of 5 Great check in Anonymous, 2005-09-18 There was a resteraunt that delievered decent Italian food. There were a couple of gas stations across the street.I had a great check in and check out experience. The man working the counter was genuine and sincere. I was very impressed with the staff's service. The room was just OK and not quit as updated I would have liked. I would stay there again because of the price and the host. Score 5 out of 5 Great Escape!!! Danielle, Boston, MA, 2005-08-29 If you do not drive, there are some taxi services that can drive you anywhere as well as give you the low down on the sites around town! This is an excellent place to go to kick back, relax, and enjoy quality time with your partner. The pool was relatively empty, so my boyfriend and I had a great deal of pool privacy. The staff was extremely friendly and always willing to assist with any request that I had. The hotel was renovating the restaurant, so there was no food on site. However, there is a great restaurant right across the street called GOVERNORS. Their food is great! They also have 2 computers, internet ready, that are available for all guests. This hotel is a GREAT ESCAPE from the city life! Score 3 out of 5 Hard Beds Anonymous, 2005-06-29 The beds were very hard or firm. Score 5 out of 5 S. Portland Stay joyce, Hartford, CT, 2005-05-22 I was in the area for a dog show and found that the hotel was in a great location, close to the show site and also easy to get to shopping and food. I would select this hotel again. |
