During your Baltimore vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Edgar Allen Poe House
In this tiny west Baltimore house, Edgar Allan Poe wrote some of his first works. Poe lived here from 1833 to 1835 with his grandmother, aunt, and cousin Virginia, whom he later married. The 2 1/2 story rowhouse contains five rooms, including the tiny garret where Poe slept and wrote. There are portraits, Poe memorabilia, period furniture, changing exhibits, and a video presentation. The house is located on a tiny, one-way street heading south. There is no house number, but you will see a black antique street lamp out front and two markers on the house. Don't try to walk here from downtown. Take a car or cab. Definitely call ahead to verify hours.
Maryland Historical Society
Francis Scott Key's manuscript of the "Star-Spangled Banner" is the centerpiece of a brand new exhibit, "Looking For Liberty." The exhibit includes artifacts that recall Maryland's past, including Tench Tilghman's Revolutionary War officer's uniform, and pieces from the old Baltimore City Life Museum. Another permanent exhibit, "Maryland Through the Artist's Eye," features the society's enormous art collection. Scheduled for 2004 is "Baltimore Ablaze," an exhibit about the Great Fire of 1904, or the exhibit on its internationally acclaimed furniture collection. You can also find all kinds of stuff here: Cal Ripken's bat, Baltimore painted furniture, Stieff silver, a recording of Eubie Blake playing the piano, mementoes of the Duchess of Windsor, a local girl. The collections represent some part of Maryland's 350-plus years of history in a sprawling museum that takes up a city block and includes the town house of Baltimore philanthropist Enoch Pratt which served as the MHS's first home. Don't miss the gift shop. Part consignment/part gift shop, it has plenty of antiques and other interesting items. It's easy to spend a couple of hours here. It's close enough to the Walters for a full day in the museums. And it's not far from the Eubie Blake Cultural Center and the antiques shops of Howard Street.
Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad Museum
A heavy snowstorm in February 2003 caused the roof of the museum's roundhouse to collapse, all but destroying valuable engines, railroad cars and train memorabilia. The museum has remained closed while the roof was rebuilt and trains were repaired. The good news is this venerable repository of train history will reopen November 13,2004. American railroading got its start here when the B&O was chartered in 1827. The first locomotive, The Tom Thumb, was built here. The remarkable roundhouse has been restored. A new entrance, new exhibits, and a train ride will be part of the experience. Changes should make it easier for handicapped visitors and parents with strollers. Some of the rolling stock on track behind the roundhouse will now be open to visitors -- and that's good news. The second floor of the roundhouse has not been rebuilt but the model train exhibit will be located in a car outside. A short train ride is now part of the admission price with trains departing regularly every day April through December and weekends in January. (No rides in February-March.) Passengers will have a chance to see a new restoration facility under construction along the track.

It's just OK. Common level.

Hsiu-Chuan, Philadelphia, PA

We arrive our destination very fast and no traffic jam on our way.

The hotel is near the highway and only less than one hour to Washington. But no coffee maker and water were given and little refrigerator were avalible.Heater is enough and comfortable. We hope that we have cheaper price next time if we check-in again .We will come again. To my viewpoint and summary, you can choose it for saving time if you want to take a Baltimore aquarine and Washington DC tour.

Very caring of senior citizens.

Anonymous, Washington, DC, 2005-11-08

A large mall with several restaurnat options is located less than two miles away from the Hotel.

This Hotel was booked due to its proximity to the office of the ophtalmologist that operated my 88 year old father in law. I never imagined that the the lady that met us upon arrival would go out of her way to be so attentive and helpful to us. When she noticed that my in-laws had difficulty walking (they are both in their late 80's), she immediatly changed the room assignments so that they would NOT have to walk a flight of stairs. And to boot, their room was not only adjacent to ours, its bathroom was equipped with handrails typical of those used in nursing homes. Of course our room was also spacious and comfortable with all the amenities I expected. Indeed, her smile, and caring attitude made our one night stay in Baltimore a comforting experience.

clean and convenient

Check out the mall (especially the international market at the rear. It has food and household items from many nations.

We were visiting family in the area and were quite satified with this motel for its clean rooms and convenience to Baltimore proper. The manager was polite and professional. The room was clean and the price was pretty decent. There were no restaurants open late (except the Wendy's) but there was a supermarket nearby which was great. We will most likely return on our next visit.

Not For Me

robert, Roanoke, VA, 2005-06-28

I was not pleased at all with this place.First of all they have a thermostat on the wall and the heat\cool is either all on or off no fan option and the room was either cold or stuffy, when you open the door the fan quits. We were there 3 days they advertise a pool and it looked nice but they kept the gate locked, have to have a lifeguard on duty.on the last day which was a Monday he lazily showed up at 11am and took him an hour to clean and open the pool...not happy about that.Overall the room was clean and it was quiet, the free continental breakfast was terriable. Its really hard to screw up a danish but it can be done.

Excellent Service

Isabell, Kinston, NC, 2005-06-26

Days Inn Security was an excellent place to stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I had some problems with the telephone and as soon as I walked to the front dest and spoke with the attendant she assured me the problem will be fixed in about 5 minutes. It was. The attendant called to confirm the problem was solved and apologized for in inconvience. I would definately stay at the hotel again.
