During your Boston vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
New England Aquarium
This complex is home to more than 15,000 fish and aquatic mammals, and at busy times, it seems to contain at least that many people -- in July and August, try to make this your first stop of the morning, especially on weekends. You'll want to spend at least half a day here, and huge afternoon crowds can make getting around painfully slow. Also consider investing in a Boston CityPass; it allows you to skip the ticket line, which can be uncomfortably long, and may represent a savings on the steep admission charge. The Simons IMAX Theatre, which has its own building, hours, and admission fees, is worth planning ahead for too. Its 85-foot-by-65-foot screen shows 3-D films with digital sound that concentrate on the natural world. It's a dizzying experience. The focal point of the main building is the four-story, 200,000-gallon Giant Ocean Tank. A four-story spiral ramp encircles the tank, which contains a replica of a Caribbean coral reef and an assortment of sea creatures that seem to coexist amazingly well. Part of the reason for the peace might be that scuba divers feed the sharks twice a day. Other exhibits show off freshwater and tropical specimens, a wide variety of jellyfish, denizens of the Amazon, and the ecology of Boston Harbor. The floating marine mammal pavilion, Discovery, is home to performing sea lions. At the Edge of the Sea exhibit, visitors can touch the sea stars, sea urchins, and horseshoe crabs in the tide pool. The Aquarium Medical Center is especially involving -- it's a working veterinary hospital.Naturalist-led harbor tours that teach "Science at Sea" run daily in the spring, summer, and fall. Discounts are available when you combine a visit to the aquarium with an IMAX film, harbor tour, or whale watch.
Boston Massacre Site
A ring of cobblestones on a traffic island marks the location of the skirmish that helped consolidate the spirit of rebellion in the colonies. On March 5, 1770, angered at the presence of royal troops in Boston, colonists threw snowballs, garbage, rocks, and other debris at a group of redcoats. The soldiers panicked and fired into the crowd, killing five men. Their graves, including that of Crispus Attucks, the first black man to die in the Revolution, are in the Old Granary Burying Ground. To continue on the Freedom Trail: Turn left onto Congress Street and walk down the hill.
James Rego Square (Paul Revere Mall)
A pleasant little brick-paved park known as the Prado, the mall holds a famous equestrian statue of Paul Revere. Take time to read some of the tablets on the left-hand wall that describe famous people and places in the history of the North End.To continue on the Freedom Trail: Walk around the fountain and continue to Salem Street.

Fair location

It was located close to New England Conservatory.

The location was the only good thing about this Hotel. For the price, there wasn't much value.

Great location in downtown Boston

Sandra, Hartford, CT, 2006-10-23

Excellent shopping literally around the corner from the hotel.

Excellent location....rooms have been re-done. Very roomy and clean. Excellent staff. Only complaint is the noise....very loud traffic, sirens, toilet flushes, etc, but nothing a good pair of earplugs won't cure! I'll be going back there; it's a very good value for the location.

Location, location, location

Thomas, New York, NY, 2006-08-24

Shopping on Newberry Street should not be missed.

I was pleased with my stay at The Midtown Hotel. Its location is right in the heart of the Back Bay section of Boston, and is convenient to everything. The room was comfortable although the bathroom was rather small (but that is the only complaint that we had). Overall, I feel that I got very good value for my money.

Very good overall

There is a very nice small snack shop in the Boston Public Library for cake and coffee , as well as a food court in the Prudential Centre which is great for shopping, as well.

I found that the hotel was in close proximity to the Boston Public Library. It was also close to shopping and good restaurants. Parking was easy, the staff was very pleasant. It was handy to have a coffee machine and an iron in the room. The location was close to the subway and to a major highway. Personally, I found it to be quite expensive.

Did not like it.

Sharon, Columbus, OH, 2006-05-25

No elavator service from lobby, someone with arthritic problems would have difficulty going up and down the lobby steps. I did. Next, had a message on my room phone after going out to dine at a restaurant that was not a message, just heavy breathing. I did not feel safe, and the only thing that the hotel would do was not put anymore calls through. There were only three people in the lobby when I checked in, the desk clerk, the bellman, and another man at the information/sightseeing desk. My family would have used my cell phone to call. I feel it had to be one of the three men in the lobby when I checked in, no one else would have known my room number. Lastly, there was a cold spell and the room was freezing, no heat available. All together, staying at the Midtown was not a good experience for me.

prudential center and T stop only a short walk away

the midtown hotel has an excellent location. however navigating inside the hotel is another story. the free parking is a great amenity.the bathroom is quite small. if travelling with a wheelchair i'm not sure this hotel is accessable. i had to climb stairs from the garage and in the lobby, and never saw a ramp.

Awful!

Anonymous, Los Angeles, CA, 2006-04-07

It is walking distance to the Prudential Center and across the street from a Scientology building.

The Midtown Hotel was a nightmare! First of all, you drive up to the hotel and the sign is falling apart. Secondly, there was a distinct odor throughout the building and got worse as we entered our room. Our room was supposedly a non-smoking room but smelled of stale smoke, which gave me a horrible headache. The room was very dark and smelly. It was not worth any amount of money. I will never stay there again.
