During your Boston vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
King's Chapel and Burying Ground
Architect Peter Harrison sent the plans for this Georgian-style building from Newport, Rhode Island, in 1749. Rather than replacing the existing wooden chapel, the granite edifice was constructed around it. Completed in 1754, it was the first Anglican church in Boston. George III sent gifts, as did Queen Anne and William and Mary, who presented the communion table and chancel tablets (still in use today) before the church was even built. The Puritan colonists had little use for the royal religion; after the Revolution, this became the first Unitarian church in the new nation. Today, the church conducts Unitarian Universalist services using the Anglican Book of Common Prayer. The burying ground, on Tremont Street, is the oldest in the city, dating to 1630. Among the scary colonial headstones (winged skulls were a popular decoration) are the graves of John Winthrop, the first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony; William Dawes, who rode with Paul Revere; Elizabeth Pain, the model for Hester Prynne in Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel The Scarlet Letter; and Mary Chilton, the first female colonist to step ashore on Plymouth Rock.To continue on the Freedom Trail: Follow the trail back along Tremont Street and turn left onto School Street.
Mary Baker Eddy Library/Mapparium
The Mary Baker Eddy Library, a research center with two floors of interactive and multimedia exhibits, opened in 2002. Its mission is to explore ideas of liberty, spirituality, and the like throughout history. A central role is reserved for Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science. The library's most intriguing exhibit is the Mapparium, a unique hollow globe 30 feet across. Both a work of art and an illustration of political history, the globe consists of a bronze framework that connects 608 stained-glass panels. Because sound bounces off the nonporous surfaces, the acoustics are as unusual as the aesthetics. As you cross the glass bridge just south of the equator, you'll see the political divisions of the world from 1932 to 1935, when the globe was constructed.
Museum of Science
For the ultimate pain-free educational experience, head to the Museum of Science. The demonstrations, experiments, and interactive displays introduce facts and concepts so effortlessly that everyone winds up learning something. Take a couple of hours or a whole day to explore the permanent and temporary exhibits, most of them hands-on and all of them great fun.Among the 500-plus exhibits, you might meet an iguana or a dinosaur, find out how much you'd weigh on the moon, battle urban traffic in a computer model, and climb into a space module. Some activities and exhibits focus on specific fields of interest -- natural history (with live animals), computers, the human body, while others take an interdisciplinary approaches. Investigate! teaches visitors to think like scientists, formulating questions, finding evidence, and drawing conclusions through activities such as strapping on a skin sensor to measure reactions to stimuli, or sifting through an archaeological site. In the Seeing Is Deceiving section, auditory and visual illusions challenge your belief in what is "real." The Science in the Park exhibit introduces the concepts of Newtonian physics through familiar recreational tools such as playground equipment and skateboards. The separate-admission theaters are worth planning for. Even if you're skipping the exhibits, try to see a show. If you're making a day of it, buy all your tickets at once -- shows sometimes sell out. Tickets are for sale in person and, subject to a service charge, over the phone and on the Web (www.tickets.mos.org). The Mugar Omni Theater, which shows IMAX movies, is an intense experience, bombarding you with images on a five-story domed screen and digital sound. The engulfing sensations and steep pitch of the seating area will have you hanging on for dear life, whether the film is about Mount Everest, Bengal tigers, or wild chimpanzees. Features change every 4 to 6 months. The Charles Hayden Planetarium takes visitors into space with daily star shows and shows on special topics that change several times a year. On weekends, rock-music laser shows take over. At the entrance is a hands-on astronomy exhibit called Welcome to the Universe. The museum has a terrific gift shop, with toys and games that promote learning without lecturing. The ground-floor Galaxy Cafés have spectacular views of the skyline and river. There's a parking garage on the premises, but it's on a busy street, and entering and exiting can be harrowing; take the T.Gone Fishing--Many fascinating interactive exhibits from the defunct Computer Museum now delight patrons of the Museum of Science. The most popular is the Virtual FishTank, which uses 3-D computer graphics and character-animation software that allows visitors to design their own virtual fish. You can even "build" fish on your home computer (visit www.virtualfishtank.com) and launch them at the museum.

Up scale and friendly

Gerald, North Bend, OR

Plenty of dining throughout the area and short walking distance from the hotel. Historic attractions were not as close and would require one to be in good physical shape.

I enjoyed the idea of staying in jail with all the comforts of home! Yes from what I was told this was once the Boston City Police Department HQ and most likely a jail too! The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept on. The pillows were awesome too. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and look forward to a return trip to Boston and to the Jurys Hotel.

great location, pleasant atmosphere

Skip Jacks restaurant was nearby...Great food.

The restaurant was a little limited. Enjoyed the coffee bar area. The rooms were great! Liked the turn down service, robes and aveda products were a nice touch. I was not sure the beds seemed smaller than queen size to me, however the linens were great and room very comfy. The location was great for walking. Plenty of shopping in the area.

European Touch in Boston

Katherine, Boston, MA, 2006-12-09

Best shopping in Boston is only two blocks from hotel.

Jurys is a small hotel with a distincly European flavor. The staff is well trained and friendly. The rooms are beautiful and well equiped. The seating in the bar is downright strange, but the atmosphere is fun. The location is perfect.

A high-class operation,

WILLIAM, Las Vegas, NV, 2006-11-26

Grill 23, Top of the Hub (51st floor of the Prudential center, Smith & Wollensky.

overall the hotel was one of the very best i and my family have stayed in. The decor, fixtures, and style is an understated elegance that we completely enjoyed. Our 13 year old son is now hooked on heated towells, and has been bugging me to buy a heated rack and install it. The hotel is very well located within an easy walking distance of the Boston Common and the beginning of the Freedom Trail. There are some very good restaurants within walking distance. We had Thanksgiving dinner at Grill 23, directly across the street. Much to my surprise for what one might think was a relatively staid setting, the hotel bar Cuffs seemed to be a high action place nightly, with lots of "heeing and sheeing" going on. The hotel has an easy and convenient solution in valet parking for those with vehicles. At $39/night I thought it was a bit pricey until our last day when we parked in the garage next to the New England Acquarium and were charged $30 for about a 3 hour park. Our only mild complaint was that the service in the Standhope Grill at breakfast was somewhat slow and inattentive. Because of this stay I would go out of my way to stay in any Jury's property when traveling. We enjoyed it.

Patricia, Philadelphia, PA, 2006-11-06

The top of the Hub restaurant in the Prudential building on the 52nd floor was great the bar in the hotel was a really cool place to hang. Newbury St. was afew blocks from hotel

Jurys Boston hotel was a stylish, hip hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. The room was clean and comfortable, although the sheets had tiny little holes in them. the bathroom was huge and I loved the big shower. The location was central to everything we wanted to see and do. I would return to this hotel again.

Upscale accommodations

Anonymous, 2006-10-29

Newbury Street just a few blocks from hotel, is filled with upscale shops located in historic area. Stroll, people watch, have lunch. Just a few blocks from Boston Gardens also.

Beautiful hotel. Centrally located to shopping and fine restaurants. Room was attractively appointed, but not much space with the king size bed, desk, 2 chairs, 2 end tables and entertainment center. A very hip bar on lower level, which becomes very crowded and noisey on weekends. Restaurant on lower level also provides a buffet breakfast, with a nice choice of foods, but seemed to lack quality.

Great Getaway Hotel

Charles, New York, NY, 2006-10-09

The Common is just a 10 minute walk from the hotel and it was such a treat sitting there on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

A very comfortable, clean and caring staff hotel. Only thing I missed was the ability to have coffee/tea amenities in the rooom. Would certainly recommend (and just have) to friends as a week-end getaway.I really loved the bath robesand the spacious rooms too.

Awesome service

Armando, El Paso, TX, 2006-09-15

Dining is a short walk away as well as the shopping area. There easy access for tour packages close by.

All the people at the Jurys were extremely helpful and friendly. Everything was so clean and easy to use. They provided free internet access in area in itself for the tenants to use, something I hadn't seen at any other hotel. Overall, it's a great place to stay in.
