During your Boston vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Museum of Science
For the ultimate pain-free educational experience, head to the Museum of Science. The demonstrations, experiments, and interactive displays introduce facts and concepts so effortlessly that everyone winds up learning something. Take a couple of hours or a whole day to explore the permanent and temporary exhibits, most of them hands-on and all of them great fun.Among the 500-plus exhibits, you might meet an iguana or a dinosaur, find out how much you'd weigh on the moon, battle urban traffic in a computer model, and climb into a space module. Some activities and exhibits focus on specific fields of interest -- natural history (with live animals), computers, the human body, while others take an interdisciplinary approaches. Investigate! teaches visitors to think like scientists, formulating questions, finding evidence, and drawing conclusions through activities such as strapping on a skin sensor to measure reactions to stimuli, or sifting through an archaeological site. In the Seeing Is Deceiving section, auditory and visual illusions challenge your belief in what is "real." The Science in the Park exhibit introduces the concepts of Newtonian physics through familiar recreational tools such as playground equipment and skateboards. The separate-admission theaters are worth planning for. Even if you're skipping the exhibits, try to see a show. If you're making a day of it, buy all your tickets at once -- shows sometimes sell out. Tickets are for sale in person and, subject to a service charge, over the phone and on the Web (www.tickets.mos.org). The Mugar Omni Theater, which shows IMAX movies, is an intense experience, bombarding you with images on a five-story domed screen and digital sound. The engulfing sensations and steep pitch of the seating area will have you hanging on for dear life, whether the film is about Mount Everest, Bengal tigers, or wild chimpanzees. Features change every 4 to 6 months. The Charles Hayden Planetarium takes visitors into space with daily star shows and shows on special topics that change several times a year. On weekends, rock-music laser shows take over. At the entrance is a hands-on astronomy exhibit called Welcome to the Universe. The museum has a terrific gift shop, with toys and games that promote learning without lecturing. The ground-floor Galaxy Cafés have spectacular views of the skyline and river. There's a parking garage on the premises, but it's on a busy street, and entering and exiting can be harrowing; take the T.Gone Fishing--Many fascinating interactive exhibits from the defunct Computer Museum now delight patrons of the Museum of Science. The most popular is the Virtual FishTank, which uses 3-D computer graphics and character-animation software that allows visitors to design their own virtual fish. You can even "build" fish on your home computer (visit www.virtualfishtank.com) and launch them at the museum.
Copp's Hill Burying Ground
The second-oldest cemetery (1659) in the city is the burial place of Cotton Mather and his family, Robert Newman, and Prince Hall. Hall, a prominent member of the free black community that occupied the north slope of the hill in colonial times, fought at Bunker Hill and established the first black Masonic lodge. The highest point in the North End, Copp's Hill was the site of a windmill and of the British batteries that destroyed the village of Charlestown during the Battle of Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775. Charlestown is clearly visible (look for the masts of USS Constitution) across the Inner Harbor. No gravestone rubbing is allowed. To continue on the Freedom Trail: Follow Hull Street down the hill to Commercial Street (note that there's no crosswalk on Commercial at the dangerous intersection with Hull) and follow the trail to North Washington Street and across the bridge. Follow signs and the trail to the Charlestown Navy Yard.
USS Constitution
"Old Ironsides," one of the U.S. Navy's six original frigates, never lost a battle. The ship was constructed in the North End from 1794 to 1797 at a cost of $302,718, using bolts, spikes, and other fittings from Paul Revere's foundry. Constitution played a key role as the new nation built its naval and military reputation, battling French privateers and Barbary pirates, repelling the British fleet during the War of 1812, participating in 40 engagements, and capturing 20 vessels. The frigate earned its nickname during an engagement on August 19, 1812, when shots from HMS Guerriere bounced off its thick oak hull as if it were iron. Today, the active-duty sailors who lead tours wear 1812 dress uniforms.Retired from combat in 1815, Constitution was rescued from destruction when Oliver Wendell Holmes's poem Old Ironsides launched a preservation movement in 1830. The frigate was completely overhauled for its bicentennial in 1997, when it sailed under its own power for the first time since 1881, drawing international attention. Tugs tow Constitution into the harbor every Fourth of July for its celebratory "turnaround cruise" (the vessel must be turned regularly to ensure that it weathers evenly). To continue on the Freedom Trail: Walk straight ahead to the museum entrance.Security On "Old Ironsides"--The Charlestown Navy Yard, home to USS Constitution and the Constitution Museum, is an active military base. Expect to have your bags searched at the gate or at the access point for "Old Ironsides," where you'll probably have to pass through a metal detector. And call ahead if the national terror alert is high; the navy yard closes to civilians at the first sign of a serious threat.

good value for cost

We ate breakfast at the IHOP next door to the hotel and enjoyed it very much. There is also a McDonalds next to the hotel.

We would definitely stay here again on our next visit. We were just needing a basic hotel that was near Boston College. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was nice, clean and comfortable. We felt it was a great value.

Was a difficult location

Valerie, 2007-03-07

Pancake House right next door and a Mcdonalds.

Overall I would have to say the hotel was not the best. there was no elevator, I tried to order take out and the resturant I called said they didn't come to the area which scared me. though it wasnt very far from the location that i needed to get to every day the taxi service was very expensive $25 each way plus tip. but the rooms were very clean.

Great deal

Anonymous, 2006-10-11

There are many bars that have live music and entertainment a short distance away. The crowds are alot of fun.

The Days Inn Boston was very spacious and well kept. There was an IHOP right next door as well as a Starbucks and a shopping center. Overall, I was extremely pleased with my stay.

great location and good deal for the money

Cindy, 2006-07-18

Nice location to get in and out of Sorrow Drive very quickly, in our case to Northeastern University.

We only slept there and left early in the morning but it was clean and the staff was very friendly and efficient. Several restuarants right next door, Fast food and another.

My review of Days Inn Boston

Christine, 2006-06-25

Across the street is a bike/walking path that goes for miles around the Charles River. A short walk you can cross the bridge to Cambridge side and sit on benches and watch rowers practicing down the river.

The Days Inn Boston was chosen in part for price and availability as we were there for business as well as pleasure. It may well be best value in Boston, as advertised outside on a sign, as they can get expensive if the others book up. The motel itself was very clean. Beds were comfortable and the dressing area outside the bathroom was convenient. Location is nice for the Charles River across a busy road. There is no where to eat without hopping in a car except for an IHOP next door. There is no pool. It was not close enough to the T (subway) a bus is needed to get to that. So, my husband insisted on driving everywhere which can be a real scary experience and was.
