During your Boston vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Larz Anderson Auto Museum
The Larz Anderson Auto Museum occupies an 1888 carriage house modeled after a French château. Beginning in 1899, Larz and Isabel Anderson acquired the cars that form the core of the collection, now the country's oldest private assemblage of antique autos. The cars boast what was then the latest equipment, from a two-cylinder engine (in a 1901 Winton race car) to a full lavatory (in a 1906 CGV). Along with the vehicles, auto-related memorabilia from the collection and from other sources are on display. The museum (formerly the Museum of Transportation) has a good gift shop and frequently schedules special events such as concerts, lectures, and family programs. On most warm-weather Sundays, outdoor lawn events include displays of vehicles such as Corvettes, Cadillacs, Triumphs, European motorcycles, or Italian imports. Call to find out what's being featured during your visit.
Harrison Gray Otis House
Legendary architect Charles Bulfinch designed this gorgeous 1796 mansion for an up-and-coming young lawyer who later became mayor of Boston. The restoration was one of the first in the country to use a computer analysis of the wall paint, and the result was revolutionary: It revealed that the colors on the walls were drab because the paint was faded, not because they started out dingy. Furnished in the style to which a wealthy family in the late-18th-century and early-19th-century United States would have been accustomed, the Federal-style building is a colorful, elegant treasure. Guided tours (the only way to see the house) discuss the architecture of the house; post-Revolutionary social, business, and family life; and the history of the neighborhood.
Children's Museum
As you approach the Children's Museum, don't be surprised to see adults suddenly being dragged by the hand when their young companions realize how close they are and start running. You know that the museum is near when you see the 40-foot-high red-and-white milk bottle out front. It makes both children and adults look small in comparison -- which is probably part of the point. No matter how old, everyone behaves like a little kid at this delightful museum.Children under 11 are the museum's target audience. They can stick with their adults or wander on their own, learning, doing, and role-playing. A two-story-high maze, the New Balance Climb & Construction Zone, calls on motor skills and problem-solving abilities. Other favorite hands-on exhibits include Grandparents' Attic, a souped-up version of playing dress-up at Grandma's; physical experiments (such as creating giant soap bubbles) in Science Playground; and Boats Afloat, which has an 800-gallon play tank and a replica of the bridge of a working boat. You can explore Supermercado, a marketplace that introduces Hispanic culture; Boston Black, a new exhibit that celebrates Boston's black history and culture; and a Japanese house from Kyoto (Boston's sister city). Children under 4 and their caregivers have a special room, Playspace, that's packed with toys and activities.Call or surf ahead for information about traveling exhibitions and special programs. And be sure to check out the excellent gift shop (as if you have a choice).

Met my needs, wasn't most expensive yet it was more than adequate.

Anonymous, Minneapolis, MN

Room was fine. Just spent one night. Not the easiest to find but what in Boston is? Once you find it, the rooms are comfortable and better yet, the price is good.

Broken vending machines

Judith, Atlanta, GA, 2006-10-29

The Days Hotel was too off the beaten track for us. The vending machines did not work and staff was not helpful. We waited 20 minutes in the restaurant and did not get waited on and when we brought this to the waitress and hotel clerks attention, they said "OH".

Good location for the Cambridge area

Christian, Kansas City, MO, 2006-05-16

Harvard Square is about a mile and a half away and worth the visit.

If trying to stay in Boston on a budget I'd recommend this hotel. Furthermore, there are options available for the bus, subway and taxis are always available. Harvard Square is about a mile and a half away and worth the visit.

Very Family Friendly

Ramana, Washington, DC, 2005-08-11

Less than a mile to Harvard University campus

We really enjoyed our 5-night stay at this hotel last week. I have no complaints whatsoever about this hotel. Great location, good view of Charles River, free ample parking, close to Harvard Sqare, very courteous hotel staff who provided me directions and helped me with all kinds of tourist info about the city and restaurants etc. Room was cleaned every day and it was perfect for a family vacation.

We found the staff to be very friendly and accomadating. Both the desk staff and the restaraunt staff were very helpful and understanding of our needs with three small children.
