It is a short drive to Merrillville if you want an even better variety of restaurants and stores. An airport shuttle runs from O'Hare or Midway to Merrillville. The train is also a short drive north and provides an easy access to Chicago.Our stay in Valparaiso, IN over Christmas vacation was very satisfactory. In fact, we found it to be extremely convenient and accommodating. It was the second hotel we stayed in over that visit. We were relieved to get to the Super 8. Our daughter's family lives nearby and our grandson came to swim. Everyone was very welcoming of children as well as helpful to us. The pool water was a little cold. We only took advantage of our complimentary breakfast on one of the 3 mornings we were there. However, that one morning we were accompanied by our daughter and grandson. It was relaxing to sit in the breakfast area, talking while we ate. I slept very well. My husband found the mattress somewhat hard. The only downfall was a strong smell of cigarette smoke in the hallway but our room was very clean and there was no smell.
