Indianapolis Zoo
This $64-million, 64-acre facility celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2004 and features 2,000 animals roaming through simulated environments. Get up close with an armadillo or try your hand at feeding a giraffe. The zoo's immense Dolphin Pavilion was being renovated at press time and is scheduled to reopen in summer 2005; for an aquatic fix, check out the new seahorse exhibit. The zoo is in the 250-acre White River State Park, 801 W. Washington St. (tel. 317/634-4567; www.inwhiteriver.com).The White River Botanical Gardens are also located on the zoo grounds. Admission to the gardens is $7 adults, $6 seniors and children in summer; reduced admission in winter. The gardens are open from 9am to 4pm (longer hours in summer).
Children's Museum of Indianapolis
This is one of the largest children's museums in the world, with interactive exhibits covering everything from archaeology to world cultures to biotechnology, plus extensive toy and dollhouse displays, a working antique carousel ($1 per ride), and a planetarium. At press time, the museum was about to open Dinosphere, a $25-million multisensory exhibit that's a unique attempt to combine serious science (a working laboratory and the largest collections of juvenile fossils in the world) with kid-friendly interactive exhibits (dressing up in a dinosaur costume to sit on a nest of simulated eggs). If you have kids, this is the place to take them.
Morris-Butler House
Housed in an 1862 Victorian mansion, this three-story museum focuses on Victorian decorative arts such as fine silver, tapestries, and Belter & Meeks furniture.

Smelled like a wet ash tray

Anonymous, 2007-02-18

Starbucks, fast foods, midscale mall shopping short drive. Upscale mall and dining a worthwhile drive within minutes. Immediate access to major interchanges.

The initial wet ashtray smell in the lobby followed me throughout the entire hotel. Manager explained that I had a room that had not yet gone through renovation, but this smell was not one for non-smokers. Clean room upon initial impression, but large urine stain on bedspread was discovered...obviously laundered and replaced.

There's is a nice park less then a mile from the hotel.

Nice area for walking pets. Rooms are larger then most hotel rooms. Staff was helpful and friendly.

In need of maintenance

Robert, 2005-09-06

Shopping, other hotels and restaurants were right there. One restaurant, Le Peep, was walkable and had a great breakfast.

Our room had been partially renovated recently. The bathroom was excellent. However, the sleep sofa was falling apart, our sheets had holes in them (although they were clean), some lights did not work, maid service was incomplete one day. Continental breakfast was passable and the coffee was terrible.

Good Value

Kurt, Minneapolis, MN, 2005-05-14

The room was clean and the bath tub was extra large. The motel location was close to good eating and drinking establishments. Very good value for the money.

Cheap, But Never Again...

Anonymous, Kansas City, MO, 2005-04-10

The first room I was given was a comedy: the clock didn't work and the windows looked as if they had been rubbed with God only knows what. Filthy! I complained and was given another room, slightly better. The "Business Center" was closed...no computer use during entire trip. The "breakfast" was a farce. I'll never stay in this property again. No bang for the buck.
