Score 4 out of 5 Great location, so-so amenities Matthew, Minneapolis, MN, 2006-09-24 The theater at 600 N. Michigan Ave. is a few blocks away from the hotel (but really, what isn't?) Heaven on Seven has a restaurant midway to the theater as you take the escalator to the theaters and offer a free dessert if you're catching a movie. It's an afforable dinner and entertainment option while you're in Chicago. You can't go wrong with the views and proximity to the Loop with this hotel, but it seemed to be geared for the business traveller and not as much for the visitor to Chicago. While the staff was polite and friendly, I need to call back to clear a charge for the minibar that we did not use. A stone's throw from Navy Pier, shopping and great restaurants, we were pleasantly surprised by how quiet the hotel was, tucked away on the end of Wacker Drive. If you're looking to slurge for a weekend away, this hotel fits the bil nicely. The room was great the view even better. The elevators were very fast compared to other hotels I have stayed at in chicago. The location is fine not a far walk to all the action. Would stay at this property next time in chicago. What I was given was very nice, but there is better. The furniture in the room did show some wear. Check out was slow. The staff was very attentive and helpful. They had all the toiletries that you can't carry on the plane. Room service was excellent. Dawn, 2006-08-22 They serve a great tuna salad sandwich on the room service menu.We make a pleasure trip to Chicago a couple of times a year. It's our favorite place. We decided to stay at the Swissotel. We paid a much higher price for this room, at this hotel, than we have in the past at other hotels for a quality of accomodations far less. Furthermore, the beds were killers. It was like sleeping on concrete and we actually had to resort to putting the feathered comforter on the mattress in an attempt to ease the back-pain we experienced from the bed. As well, the overall location of the hotel was not ideal. We enjoy walking and the hotel was not in the heart of things as we would have liked. In addition, the concierge was rude to us. He insisted on continuing his personal conversation on the telephone over addressing us and our querie(s). We finally just walked away. Furthermore, internet services are not free and we were unable to "connect" via our PDA's. Hmmmm? Score 5 out of 5 great experience Anonymous, 2006-08-07 A few blocks off Grant ParkSwissotel Chicago was a very nice place to stay in downtown Chicago. The rooms are very spacious. Our bathroom was very nice - it had a separate stand-up glass walled shower from the tub. Room service is available 24/hrs a day, although it was pricey and the quality wasn't worth the cost. The staff was helpful and accomodating to requests. Score 4 out of 5 Better places to stay for the money... Tish, Denver, CO, 2006-08-06 Close to Milennium Park, Navy PierWe got to the hotel and the check-in line was long-only 2 agents checking people in. Was able to upgrade to the Executive Level and did so. This afforded you 1)a higher floor 2) Use of the Executive Lounge (40th floor) which provided a lovely breakfast of cold items of good quality (prosciutto/melon, lots of fresh berries and fruits, salmon & capers for your bagels etc. as well as hors d'oevres, desserts and beverage service as various times of the day.) It had a gorgeous view of the lake, offered use of the internet and items from the study (books, movies for your room), a private Concierge- with Express Check-in and checkout privileges-very handy(!). 3) Use of the 42nd (top) floor gym, pool, jacuzzi, showers-bring your own toiletries. The room, however, not as nice as I've had for the money. The bedding was nice, fluffy cotton duvet comforters and nice pillows. The bathroom was nicer than most-very large, beautifully tiled with a tub and seperate shower enclosure. Toiletries-average and room service forgot to replace all the towels that were used after our 1st day. We ordered room service-nice variety, pretty tasty (good pasta) and it took 45 min.- not bad at midnight! The down side was that it was supposed to have a CD player, it didn't, but they brought one up for us when requested. There wasn't a microwave- which would have come in handy for all the leftovers we had. The fridge is weighted, so when you move or take something out, you're automatically charged-be careful with that and watch your bill. We didn't know this when we went to put some food in there from room service and was charged almost $100.00 in mini-bar fees. They corrected it immediatly though. If you stay here get a room in the corner away from the elevator. The people in the next room were having a party at 4:00 a.m and were very loud. I called the front desk and was placed on hold for quite some time. They did respond quickly with security pounding on their door shortly there after. I would DEFINITELY bring ear plugs just in case. The hotel should actually supply them in my opinion- kind of noisy. They offered to move US to another room- why didn't they move THEM is my question. Lastly, the Palm Restaurant was quite nice and had a GREAT bartender. My friends were in one of the Suites on the top floor. It was a split level-bedroom on higher level, living area below with a nice bar (extra fridge), work space with a fax machine, It also had 1 full and 1 half bath- which was nice. The location is great- the lake view side is 1st choice, next the river view and lastly the Grant Park side-mostly obstructed view. Hope this offers you some insite on what to expect. Chicago River on front side of hotel. Just blocks from Lake Michigan, Navy Pier and Grant Park. The Swissotel Chicago was wonderful. The room was excellent. Check in and out took a little longer than expected. The location of this hotel is perfect. Very close to the Navy Pier, Grant Park and the Chicago River. We had an excellent view of Lake Michigan from our room. I highly recommend this hotel. |
