During your Chicago vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Robie House
One of Frank Lloyd Wright's finest works, the Robie House is considered among the masterpieces of 20th-century American architecture. The open layout, linear geometry of form, and craftsmanship are typical of Wright's Prairie School design. Completed in 1909 for inventor Frederick Robie, a bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer, the home is also notable for its exquisite leaded- and stained-glass doors and windows. It's also among the last of his Prairie School-style homes: During its construction, Wright abandoned both his family and his Oak Park practice to follow other pursuits, most prominently the realization of his Taliesin home and studio in Spring Green, Wisconsin. Docents from Oak Park's Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio Foundation lead tours here, even though the house is undergoing a massive, 10-year restoration (the house will be open throughout the process, but your photos may include plenty of scaffolding). A Wright specialty bookshop is located in the building's former three-car garage -- which was highly unusual for the time in which it was built. Allow 1 hour per tour, more time if you want to browse the gift shop.
City Council Chambers at City Hall
The public meetings of the volatile Chicago City Council make great theater for political junkies. The council meets in a massive building that takes up an entire city block, encompassing both City Hall and the County Building. (You can't miss it: Its columns are probably the most massive of any city building -- 75 ft. high and crowned by Corinthian capitals the height of an entire floor.) Although politics aren't quite as colorful under Mayor Richard M. Daley as they were under his dad, when a hot-button issue is being debated, factions can still get down and dirty, and the political posturing of the 50 aldermen (the name given to the city council members) can make for the best kind of theatrics. Call ahead to find out when the council is in session. City Hall tours also can be arranged for groups; call to make a reservation. Allow 1 hour.
Windy
One of the more breathtaking scenes on the lake is watching this tall ship approach the docks at Navy Pier. The 148-foot-long, four-masted schooner (and its new sister ship, the Windy II) sets sail for 90-minute cruises two to five times a day, both day and evening. Of course, the boats are at the whims of the wind, so every cruise charts a different course. Passengers are welcome to help raise and trim the sails and occasionally take turns at the ship's helm (with the captain standing close by). The boats are not accessible for people with disabilities.

Take menu with you. There are not many resturants in the area.

Staff was friendly from the moment I arrived. Just some people above were making to mush noise with their kids running around.

Gr8 Breakfast Buffet but Pricey

Tamra, Louisville, KY, 2006-12-14

Soldier Field, Field Museum, the Miracle Mile of Michigan Avenue for high price shopping, other museums, and plentiful restraunts downtown.

Ramada Inn Lakeshore-Chicago was difficult to get to by map, but once found was fairly easy to get to and from our sites of interest. The hotel needs an update in it's carpeting in the halls and rooms. I did not want to walk barefooted. The bathroom was very clean. The mattresses need to be replaced as they were not very supportive to our backs...ugh in the morning! Closet and drawer space was sufficient. The room has a hidden refrigerator for soda and snacks that need to be cool. Overall, for the price, it fit our budget and we were happy to have a place not downtown and yet within easy drive distance to the museum and downtown shopping. If we go back to Chicago we will probably stay somewhere else, maybe a bit further from downtown...

good for everybody

Anonymous, 2006-11-08

The Ramada Inn was very comfortable, the room seemed much larger than most with enough space between the beds, the table, the furnitures and the chairs. I liked the fact that the bathroom was separate from the vanity area and there was a sink with a long counter and there was adequate space for hanging clothes. The location was neither close or far from downtown, but the hotel provides a free shuttle service to downtown three times each day, and the bus stop is really close (5 minutes walking).

Good Location

Anonymous, Orlando, FL, 2006-11-06

This hotel was five miles south of downtown Chicago,

It was exactly what I was looking for. Close to downtown Chicago, and close to the airport as I had an early flight the next morning.

Convienience

Sarah, 2006-10-22

There is a really nice park across the street.

We stayed at the Ramada Inn for the Chicago Marathon. The hotel room was very clean and had just been remodeled. The hotel had two shuttle buses to take the athletes to the Marathon which was very convienient. The hotel staff was very nice and a pleasure to deal with. The hotel is a little out of town and can be a long cab ride. The restaurant was also nice. I was satisfied with the hotel and the service!!I would reccomend this hotel!!

Good hotel for price paid

Anonymous, 2006-10-18

I stayed here for 5 nights during a visit to chicago for a convention at Mccormick place. The best thing about this hotel is its location right off lake shore drive and the 5-10min drive to Mccormick place. Hotel room in the main building was much better than the one in the other separate builidng. Rooms were old but clean well mainatined. Overall not bad considering price and location to Mccormick place. Would not recommend for families or maybe even female travelers traveling alone because of the neighborhood. there is nothing in walking distance to hotel and the neighborhood did not look to safe.

high crime area, dirty, rude staff, not fit for a human

Anonymous, 2006-10-15

It was very dusty, the bed was dirty, the room smelled of smoke and feeces. It was in a high crime area, the staff recomended to stay inside unless i carried a gun. The refrigerator was broken. The elevator was questionable as to travel safe or not. The room was etreemly HOT. We requested to have the air on was told no that it was off for the year and to open the windows. That on the 4th floor we would probably be o.k. Requested a fan the staff rudely stated we do not provide fans. When asking for directions staff was helpful. I would not recomend this place to another soul, i am going to contact Ramada related to this.
