During your Chicago vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Chicago Trolley Company
Chicago Trolley Company offers guided tours on a fleet of rubber-wheeled "San Francisco-style" trolleys that stop at a number of popular spots around the city, including Navy Pier, the Grant Park museums, the historic Water Tower, and the Sears Tower. You can stay on for the full 1 1/2-hour ride or get on and off at each stop. The trolleys operate year-round, but winter visitors won't need to wear a snowsuit; the vehicles are enclosed and heated during the chilliest months. The same company also operates the Chicago Double Decker Company, which has a fleet of London-style, red, two-story buses. The buses follow the same route as the trolleys; if you buy an all-day pass, you can hop from bus to trolley at any point.
Gray Line
Part of a company that offers bus tours worldwide, Gray Line Chicago offers professional tours in well-appointed buses. Most tours run 3 to 4 hours (including lunch) and feature highlights of downtown or various neighborhoods; some tours also include a cruise on Lake Michigan or a visit to the Sears Tower Skydeck. You'll also find some more intellectual offerings, including Chicago and the Civil War and Literary Chicago.
Historic Pullman
Railway magnate George Pullman may have been a fabulously wealthy industrialist, but he fancied himself more enlightened than his 19th-century peers. So when it came time to build a new headquarters for his Pullman Palace Car Company, he dreamed of something far more than the standard factory surrounded by tenements. Instead, he built a model community for his workers, a place where they could live in houses with indoor plumbing and abundant natural light -- amenities almost unheard of for industrial workers in the 1880s. Pullman didn't do all this solely from the goodness of his heart; he hoped that the town named after him would attract the most skilled workers (who would be so happy that they wouldn't go on strike). As one of the first "factory towns," Pullman caused an international sensation and was seen as a model for other companies to follow. The happy workers that Pullman envisioned, however, did go on strike in 1894, frustrated by the company's control of every aspect of their lives.Today, the Pullman district makes a fascinating stop for anyone with a historical or architectural bent. While many of the homes are private residences, a number of public buildings still stand (including the lavish Hotel Florence, the imposing Clock Tower, and the two-story colonnaded Market Hall). Although a fire damaged some buildings in the late 1990s, Pullman has thankfully been recognized as a unique historic site, and much-needed repairs are underway. You can walk through on your own during opening hours (stop by the visitor center for a map), or take a guided a tour at 12:30 or 1:30pm on the first Sunday of the month from May through October ($4 adults, $3.50 seniors).

Clean and Friendly

Anonymous, Kansas City, MO

Bus line right at door, less than 1/2 mile walk to 'L' line.

Although the room was small, I found it clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The complimentary breakfast had numerous options. Hotel close to dining and public transportation. Overall good for a stay in the Lincoln Park area.

The Days Inn experince was overall good. It is an older hotel, not too many upgrades but the rooms are comfortable. If it is luxury you want this is not the place, but very clean and the staff is excellent. The free continental breakfast was very good, well stocked and convenient. The best thing about the hotel is that it is centrally located to many things...restaurants, shoppping, entertainment.

Great location

Walk around the corner to see a movie at the large cinema next door. Go a block or so down Broadway to sample great Turkish food at the famous Cousin's. Hang out in one of several nearby sports bars. Or lounge in a Borders or Barnes & Noble, each just a walk across the street.

Not only is this a comfortable, roomy hotel with friendly staff, it is situated in the heart of the Lincoln Park neighborhood and is within easy walking distance of various bookstores, coffee shops, restaurants, a cinema, shopping, and not far from the lakefront either. It is just a few blocks from the Brown Line El station, and bus routes are literally a few steps outside the hotel entrance. I live on the far South Side of Chicago and came to this hotel for a short retreat. Because of its easy access to public transportation and restaurants, I could leave the car at home with my family and make my retreat comfortably and with a minimum of travel. It was nice being close to a drugstore and restaurants, and so close to the cinema that I could go to the late show and have just a few steps to walk back to my room.

Very close to neat shops, bars, and dining. Rooms were a tad small, but very nice. Hotel staff was very friendly and willing to answer any questions.

good, but a little lacking

Anonymous, Chicago, IL, 2007-02-11

nearby Congress Theatre area and great authentic spanish food

our room was clean and oddly shaped with an extra empty room (it must have been an old apartment building.) Everything was great, but I didn't realize that parking was an extra $20. It was quiet, decent breakfast. The only thing staff missed was towels in our room.

Efficient place to stay in Lincoln Park

Naomi, Providence, RI, 2006-08-25

CLose to DePaul University and lovely residential neighborhoods of Lincoln Park and many shops and restaurants.

The service was friendly, the location ideal for the Lincoln Park area. The room was satisfactory as a place to stay, certainly not luxurious, but a good value for the price. The best aspect was the great breakfast included, for which we'd go again. Recommend using the small but pleasant stairwell over the tiny elevator.

Hotel staff was friendly and quite helpful

Anonymous, 2006-05-04

I had trouble with my cell phone and was able to find a service place about a block away.

Every staff member I spoke to, and there were several, though my stay was only a few days was eager to help with answering questiions, giving street directions and changing money. My room was quiet, clean and spacious enough for my needs. I appreciated the fact that there were plently of towels. The cleaning person was kind enough to write a thank you note when I left a small tip. The tv in my room worked well as did the phone. From my room it was easy to use a phone card so outgoing phone calls were not terribly expensive and phone messages were easy to retrieve. The hotel's location was very good since I had to do work in the neighborhood. In addition, there are many different kinds of stores and restaurants very close to the hotel.

Great in a pinch

Sherwynn's Health Food Store right across the street!!

Room was clean and friendly. Had to wait for a bit for my luggage to be brought to my room and for valet to bring my car around. It seems as if they don't quite have enough staff to cover the work load, but that probably contributes to the reasonably priced room. Everyone was friendly and they pay extra attention to security (your room key works the elevator). Overall, a good experience.

Great location

Infamous Wrigely Field....home fo the chicago cubs...and a historical landmark for baseball fans. On game day...streets are crowded with folks headed to the game or one of the mnay nearby restuarants for some pre and post game festivities.

In the heart of the Lincoln Park Area. Enough dining and shops nearby to keep any visitor busy. All within walking distance. Wrigley field nearby to catch a game. Local transportation into downtown Chicago..easily accessible. Nice neighborhood....

Great Value

Douglas, Boston, MA, 2005-10-27

Lots of small and interesting restaurants, from Asian to Middle Eastern to pub style eating.

The Days Inn Lincoln Park was a very reasonably priced, but was surprisingly a lot for the price. The location was great with plenty of restaurants and stores within walking distance. The room was large, comfortable and clean. The wireless internet connection was very convenient for me as a business traveller.
