Like Being At Home

DAVID, Detroit, MI

This side of the island is best for the weather with MILES of beaches. Waimea Cannon & State Park just down the road. Most tours left from harbour approx. 10 miles away. Airport was just 30 minutes-helicopter tours leave from there.

These cottages were wonderful. They are spaced nicely and provide a sense of privacy yet laundry facilities, dining, etc. was close by and parking was right outside each individual cottage. Groundkeeping was not intrusive, and the surroundings were gorgeous with view of the ocean from inside and outside of cottage. Newspaper was door delivered each morning and housekeeping did a wonderful job. Bathroom was HUGE with separate tub and shower units, kitchen was fully equiped, barbeque was clean, and we even had enough coffee and condiments to get us through until we could get to the store. We checked in late at night and didn't want for anything. We truly felt like we were living on the island. The black sand beach was beautiful (not all rocks) and very private even though it is a public beach. No more than 6 people at one time were ever there. Our favorite pasttime? Building a fire on the beach and watching the sunset. Watching the whales from shore while having our morning coffee is a very close second!

Great for a romantic getaway

Teresa, Boise, ID, 2006-12-16

The little restaurant we went to for breakfast was cozy, the staff was very friendly, and informative. They told us some places to go see while we were there. The food was good, too.

The Waimea Plantation Cottages was very nice. It was Quiet, except you could hear the ocean, which was a good thing. I loved that part. The cottage was very comfortable and spacious. We had a two bedroom, so it would be great for a family. The roosters crowed each morning, and that was pretty cool. We could see the ocean from our lanai through the palm trees. It was a beautiful picture. Overall it was a wonderful stay.

Very nice but "resort" may be misleading

Jason, St Louis, MO, 2006-10-16

Waimea canyon is spectacular and has some great hikes in case you get bored with the beaches.

Our ResortQuest cottage was very comfortable and a great place to have a laid back hawaiian vacation. My initial impression was slightly negative, mostly due to my preconcieved notions on what the room would be like, as the cottages are in fact old plantation cottages moved to the seaside. In other words, rather than being a luxurious resort style room the cottages look more like cabins one might find in the woods. That said, the cottage was fairly well maintained, extremely clean, and full of many amenities normally not available including a full kitchen and separate shower for removing sand after swimming. Also the one bedroom, one bath we reserved turned out to be a three bedroom, two bath, and from talking to the staff that seems like more the norm than the exception, so for people looking to take between 4-8 people together on vacation this setting would be ideal with plenty of room for everybody. The pool was great with a seaside view, and the beach was nice for walking and ideal for viewing the sunset, but the beach was clearly posted as being not appropriate for swimming, due to "extreme currents" and "dangerous sea creatures". Overall the best thing about the ResortQuest was the location which was easy to find with easy access to Waimea Canyon and several spectacular beaches, including Salt Pond Park about 8 minutes away by road. Meal options are limited, although the main hotel itself hosts essentially the only thing open in Waimea after 9 pm, the brewpub, that has decent beer, decent food, and horrendous service. However one can easily find good food options a short distance away or cook for yourself in the full kitchen. In short, this is a fine place to stay with a great laid back feel and most things you could want out of a room, but is not a resort.

Peaceful Get away

Anonymous, Honolulu, HI, 2006-10-12

My family & I very much enjoyed our time at this hotel. The accommodations are a little rustic, which adds to the charm & fits with the quiet peaceful setting. There is not much to do here but relax, which was our main goal. We had a 2 bedroom house with 2 bath rooms & a full kitchen. There was a broad expanse of green grass & mature trees between our house & the ocean. The beach fronting the cottages is not good for swimming, but makes for a nice background. I would recommend this place to any one who wants a nice quiet getaway & does not need a lot of hotel amenities. I look forward to visiting again.

A different experience

Anonymous, 2006-10-07

The Waimea Plantation Cottages are so wonderful that I am reluctant to write this review. I don't want too people to know about this wonderful establishment. This is very different from a resort hotel experience or a vacation condominium experience. The cottages are actual plantation cottages. The property is very beautiful. My favorite part is the space between the cottages and the beach. There were many shade trees and comfortable chairs and hammocks, an ideal place for relaxing and enjoying the ocean breeze. Waimea is a nice community outside the busier tourist spots on Kauai yet close enough to enjoy all the tourist activities like sailing, snorkeling, helicopter tours and hiking in Waimea Canyon. There are friendly local restaraunts and there is brewpub at the plantation with excellent food. I enjoyed the daily specials at the Barefoor Burger in Waimea.

james, Los Angeles, CA, 2005-10-11

nice dining and shopping in Puipi just a ten minute drive

We were very pleased with the cottage, the location, and the well groomed grounds. We even enjoyed the crowing of the early morning rooster. The cottage was very clean and well appointed. We plan to take our next trip to the same place. We highly recommed the Plantion cottages for everyone. It will be a very special encounter for everyone.
