Most recent user reviewsScore 5 out of 5 Greatly enjoyed our stay! Marilynn, Portland, OR The Papakea Resort was a very nice place to stay. The staff was very friendly and the concierge was very helpful in suggesting and booking the best tours, sites, etc. The rooms were neat & clean and well equipped. (Restaurants in the whole area are a bit sparce, so you may want to take advantage of the well equipped kitchens part of the time.) We had a ground floor ocean view room.... well worth the little extra paid. The mirrored walls in the rooms made it feel extra spacious! The grounds were well maintained and beautiful. Groundskeepers began work at 9:00 am sharp! They had a job to do (mowing, clipping, etc.) Our neighbor became very irate at their starting hour, but hey, they had a job to do, and it was a job well done!!! It was a good choice for our stay, and would be our choice again upon a return visit to Maui! Boy was I surprized with what a great deal I was getting. I'd almost like to gove this place a 0 rating so I am assured a room next time I go there:) but It is without a doubt 5 star. To point out its minor weak points is only nitpicking. The Pros' 1)Extremly clean room with queen bed 2)ocean front room with morning view of the whales jumping 3)evening ocean waves soothe you to sleep and wake you up. 4)walking distance to general stores 5)Fully furnished kitchen with clothes washer and dryer. 6)many Weber Barbecue pits poolside. Offsite eating got a little pricy. 7)2 heated swimming pools and jacuzzis 8)Best beach..most adjacent hotels had rocky beaches..Not here The Cons: 1)Parking is scarce 2)maid room service not the greatest 3)No onsite restaurants I would surely go back there...Spring for the ocean front room...Its the best.. Score 4 out of 5 Comfortable family location Jacqueline, Seattle, WA, 2007-02-26 It's small walk to a grocery store, coffee, and casual dining. There's an awsome pizza place by the market that is a must try. While this resort is not an upscale resort it is clean and comfortable. The room we had was one of the most updated rooms we've stayed at when we've been at Papakea. These units are privatly owned so it's a hit and miss with how updated they are. While the pool and property are quiet compared to that of an upscale resort the rooms are very noisy. The master bedroom has a walkway behind it and you can hear people walking past, car alarms going off and also the birds start chirping about 4am so be ready to be awake early unless you luck out and get a bedroom facing the ocean. Our room had an air conditioning unit (not all units do)but it was so noisy that we just opened windows at night so you won't need many blankets to sleep. Overall for the money it's an average place to stay. Score 4 out of 5 Great amenities for the price Jeff, Chicago, IL, 2006-10-27 Coffee shop, sandwich shop, Star market, farmer's market. The Resort Quest at Papakea hotel was a very nice property. We received an upgrade from a studio to a one room suite with an ocean view. I liked the large room with pull out sofa, separate bedroom and kitchen areas. The location was great once you found it. Due to construction, it was difficult to find. The proximity to the grocery store and farmer's market was nice. Only a couple of issues, one day we stayed late in the room so the housekeepers didn't clean and when they did clean it didn't always feel very thorough. Bugs (ants, roaches) were a bit of a problem in the room and the hours for the hot tub and pool were a bit limited. Overall, though, nice property. Score 5 out of 5 Honeymoon Michelle, Phoenix, AZ, 2006-10-24 Lahaina is a short drive from here. There is an ABC store that is within walking distance and the beach is about 5 minutes away.I was very pleased with our stay here. The view was more beautiful than I had expected. We overlooked the koi ponds and still had a wonderful view of the ocean. The bed was very comfortable, and the entire place was very roomy. The only draw back was the shower, the heighth was shorter than average. The location was perfect we were close to our friends and family that came over with us from the mainland. We were within walking distance to the ABC store. I could not have asked for a better place to stay. Score 5 out of 5 Great business amenities Anonymous, 2006-09-17 You are steps away from the warm, blue ocean what more can I say?My husband brought his lap top computer so he could keep in touch with our business and the internet connection (Wi-FI) was excellent. This really contributed to our comfort level. The landscaping at this resort is exceptional and our view from the lanai of the fountain pool and ocean was beautiful. Score 5 out of 5 Good value for the money David, 2006-08-19 A shopping center virtually across the street covers most basic needs, including a well stocked super market. The Papakea Resort is a condo community, so it doesn't offer all of the amenities and services of a hotel but it's a very pleasant place to stay and offers good value for the money. The oceanfront rooms are a bit small but they have killer views...we were about 25' from the Pacific surf. The place is well run and the staff is courteous. Our only disappointment was a somewhat uncomfortable bed. Score 4 out of 5 Amazing grounds Livia, Ontario, CA, 2006-07-09 There's a small Chineese restaurant, The Boat House just a short drive away. A local place with great food. The condo was nicely furnished, older furniture, but still nice island feel to it. The bedroom was dark, with just a few small windows high up. The bed was not very comfortable. Overall though it was not to bad for a weeks stay. The view made up for everything else. The grounds were very well kept, very beautiful. What we enjoyed the most was that it was quiet. Great experience, we will definetely stay here again.
