Historic full-service 460 room beachfront resort on scenic bay. Built in the heart of picturesque Kailua-Kona town, King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel takes its name from the most prominent of Hawaii's monarchs, King Kamehameha the Great, who united the Hawaiian Islands in 1810 and who established his residence and administrative capital on the grounds of this hotel. The quiet sheltered bay, balmy trade winds and endless days of brilliant sunshine also made the site of the hotel a favorite vacation spot for Hawaiian royalty. Images and artifacts celebrating its historically significant location can be found throughout the hotel. On the surrounding grounds stands King Kamehameha's restored Hawaiian temple, Ahu'ena Heiau, a stunning foreground for the compelling seascape that the hotel's seaside location provides. On Kamakahonu Bay, the 458-room King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel fronts the only white sandy beach in Kona.

The ice makers do not work, the carpets need to be replaced, the ceiling in the room and hallway's is falling off, and the hotel has a very musty smell. The hotel does have a great buffet and overall the food was good. We had a good time and for the money it was okay, but not great that's for sure. It was a great location for shopping and for cruises etc.... Score 4 out of 5 Convenient location Carol, 2006-11-10 Try the Kona Island Brewing House, very close by best pizza we ever had and very reasonably pricedThe King Kamehameha Kona hotel was at a very good location for site seeing and walking to different shops and resturants. They have a nice small beach area with some oportunities to snorkel, canoe or take a boat ride, although the prices were a little steep. Most of the staff was very friendly, and the room was kept clean everyday, although the beds were not very comfortable and I think the rooms need a little updating. If they included a small breakfast with the price that would be nice. The Luau we attended there was very entertaining, we enjoyed that a lot. They need to enforce the no smoking floor! Score 4 out of 5 Very Good for the money Curtis, Honolulu, HI, 2006-10-16 The big plus is the location. You are in the middle of Kona Town and in walking distance to all the restaurants. I hope that ths is helpful. The king Kamehameha Hotel is a very decent hotel, but could use a makeover. you will be completely satisfied with the hotel staff. They are helpful and courteous. The only complaint that I might have is that I did not get clean towels everyday. Also, the room did not smell all that great. The big plus is the location. You are in the middle of Kona Town and in walking distance to all the restaurants. I hope that ths is helpful. The rooms are not very soundproof so noisy neighbors can be a problem. Great location very close to downtown. Score 5 out of 5 Very accomodating Melissa, Honolulu, HI, 2006-10-01 The King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel Luau is on the hotel's site. They provide cultural awareness, history, demonstrations, food, and interaction. The King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel was very accomodating. When our air conditioning was not very satisfying, they quickly replaced our room with another. The maid service was more than happy to accomodate our needs with smiles every morning. Our Lobby clerks and bell boy was fast and friendly. Other workers would stop to answer questions we had of the facilities. Score 4 out of 5 Cool Historical Hotel! Peggy, New Orleans, LA, 2006-09-28 There are gift shops down the street that are way cheaper, such as Hilo Hattie (awesome store) or ABC Stores. This hotel has a really cool luau w/good food, drinks & hula dance lessons included; it was very educational & fun! The location is really good, everything you want is close by. Good restaurants close by, I definitely recommend this place. Score 5 out of 5 Value for the money Millicent, San Jose, CA, 2006-08-31 The restaurant has a great buffet but it only opens for breakfast and dinner buffets on the weekends. We stayed at the King Kamehameha for four days and had a great time. The room was comfortable, but the carpet could use shampooing. This hotel has perfect access to malls, shops, harbor, pier, walmart, kmart, and other local stores like Hilo Hattie. Score 4 out of 5 Great deal and location Ellen, Honolulu, HI, 2006-08-08 Shopping is easy and a nice walk. The hotel was very well kept. Staff was friendly and helpful. It is an older hotel, so there are things that could be nicer. But overall, the location - right off the beach and Alii Drive were great for us. |
