During your Honolulu vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Lanikai Beach
This is one of the best places on Oahu to greet the sunrise. Watch the sky slowly move from pitch black to wisps of gray to burnt orange as the sun begins to rise over the two tiny offshore islands of Mokulua. Use your five senses for this experience: hear the birds sing, feel the gentle breezes on your face, taste the salt in the air, smell the ocean, and see the kaleidoscope of colors as another day dawns.
Hawaii Maritime Center
You can easily spend a couple of hours here, wandering around and learning the story of Hawaii's rich maritime past, from the ancient journey of Polynesian voyagers to the nostalgic days of the Lurline, which once brought tourists from San Francisco on 4-day cruises. Inside the Hawaii Maritime Center's Kalakaua Boat House, patterned after His Majesty King David Kalakaua's own canoe house, are more than 30 exhibits, including Matson cruise ships (which brought the 1st tourists to Waikiki), flying boats that delivered the mail, and the skeleton of a Pacific humpback whale that beached on Kahoolawe; these latter two are especially interesting to kids. Outside, the Hokulea, a double-hulled sailing canoe that in 1976 reenacted the Polynesian voyage of discovery, is moored next to the Falls of Clyde, a four-masted schooner that once ran tea from China to the West Coast.
Senator Fong's Plantation & Gardens
Senator Hiram Fong, the first Chinese American elected to the U.S. Senate, served 17 years before retiring to tropical gardening years ago. Now you can ride an open-air tram through five gardens named for the American presidents he served. His 725-acre private estate includes 75 edible nuts and fruits. It's definitely worth an hour -- if you haven't already seen enough botanicals to last a lifetime.

Aqua Continental
The Continental Surf Hotel is a haven of hospitality in the center of everything. Enjoy the "Five-Star" location at budget prices, and you'll find this the smartest choice in Waikiki. Scenic beauty and beaches, fabulous shopping and dining, unforgettable nightlife are all within a stone's throw of the hotel. Overall good w/ a couple small issues

Sara, Portland, OR

Walk two blocks and you're in the heart of Waikiki. There's everything you want there. Other beaches ar e 20-30 minutes by car. It's a great location.

Overall the hotel was a great deal for the price we paid. It was blocks from Waikiki Beach. The pool was beautiful and it had a cute little open-air bar with really friendly service. The complimentary breakfast was less than to be desired. It included some dry toast, cheap little donuts, and 8 oz cups of juice and coffee. That's pretty par for the course on efficiency hotel continentals. However the hotel had a lady monitoring the food and would scold people for taking too much or taking it to their room. I think the hotel needs to go with the honor system that if someone is taking two plates, there's a good chance that it is for another person. The other problem was that the construction was going on not on the lobby floor as indicated by the hotel website but directly below our room. They were good to not start the very loud work until 11 am but it pretty much meant not coming back to the hotel room during the afternoon. These two issues weren't that big of a deal and everything else was right on with the price of the hotel. I would go there again if we got the same deal.

Good for sleep

Wanda, Orlando, FL, 2007-03-11

Variety of places to eat in closed distance

Very good area for the price. However room was very hot and staff repair it with duct tape still not cool enough. Very clean, nice pool, close to variety of eating places and not far from beach. Friendly staff valet parking was awesome and affordable for the area. We would stay again, but probably try a hotel closer to beach.

A Nice Place To Stay

Kenneth, Dallas, TX, 2007-02-08

The Beaches, Parks, Zoo, Aquarium, Shopping, Dining, Surf Board Rentals, Moped Rentals, Car Rentals, Movies on the Beach, Volleyball on the Beach and more were all within walking distance of this Hotel.

This was our First trip to Hawaii. We found the Waikiki Sand Villa Hotel to be a real nice Hotel in a good location to the beaches, shopping, and restaurants in the area. The Staff was friendly and our room was kept clean. I liked the fact that there was a safe in the room as it came in real handy when we were unable to take certain possessions with us on our Tour to Pearl Harber. We did not have any problems with our Hotel Reservations or any other Reservations that the Hotel had set up for us.

Great business amenities and wonderful location

Thomas, Chicago, IL, 2006-10-30

The Waikiki beach is a very small walk away. There's a restaurant right up the street that sells the best breakfast at the best price ever!

The Waikiki Sand Villa Hotel was a very warm and comfortable place to reside. What I liked most was our room's "mountain view" - it was simply heavenly...I could have stayed indefinitely. The location was extremely convenient, everything was at hands reach and in walking distance! The continental breakfast was most definitely "continental", but very tasty/delicious and filling. Everything was too our satisfaction. Another great aspect was that we were able to check our bags after checking out as our flight didn't leave until 11:55 p.m. The only negative issue was that the hotel was under construction, but you know what...it didn't cause any confustion or problems to guests. It just didn't look as pretty/beautiful as I know the hotel did and will upon it's completion. WE WERE WELL SATISFIED, and would definitely stay at the Waikiki Sand Villa Hotel again.

Hospitable

The shopping area is just a few blocks away.

Even though the hotel was under some renovations; we found it to be a good value for the money. Conventient to everything. The staff could not have been nicer. They were helpful and very kind and accommodating. When I go back I would stay there again.

Good Location Nice People

julie, Portland, OR, 2006-09-25

Good Location, Nice people the property is a bit run down but for the money it is worth it. They were doing construction there and it was very noisy during the day. The hospitality room was great we had a late plane and we were able to shower there after a day at the beach.

Very personable and helpful

Eduardo, Jacksonville, FL, 2006-09-02

Not far from the beach and Diamond head and shopping.

This is a good hotel if you just want to rest your head. This is not a luxury hotel that we are used to. Some maintenance is required and the building has roaches. Never the less, the staff were very friendly and eager to meet your needs. They go out of their way to make you happy. This room had 3 twin beds in it when we only needed one king. the hotel is very close to Diamond head and the waikiki beach area but forget about any good views.

Nice hotel for the money!

Anonymous, Jacksonville, FL, 2006-08-22

There is a Denny's and and Ihop you can go to within walking distance. In the ihop,if you have a car you can park in the garage and you don't have to pay just tell your waitress to validate your parking!

The sand villa hotel was a good hotel for what we paid for. You're in Hawaii; therefore, you will not spend much time in the hotel unless you're in your honeymoon in which case i will not recommend the hotel. Anyway, checking in the hotel was easy and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The cleanliness in the hotel is ok, but you have to know it's an old hotel so it's not the best. The continental breakfast was very funny!! The staff told us very very continental, they were completely right, two kinds of juices and a few pastries, but it was ok! The hospitality room was awesome because you can check the internet and print if you need to. The only problem we had was the vallet parking scrating our rental car, so be very careful to check everytime you pick up and drop the car for scratches. But even then the hotel staff was very friendly called the cops etc etc...hopefully this does not happen often! So if you're on a budget this is the hotel to pick!! Also very close to Waikiki!
