During your Honolulu vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Pearl Country Club
Looking for a challenge? You'll find one at this popular public course, located just above Pearl City in Aiea. Sure, the 6,230-yard, par-72 looks harmless enough, and the views of Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial are gorgeous, but around the fifth hole, you'll start to see what you're in for. That par-5, a blind 472-yard hole, doglegs seriously to the left (with a small margin of error between the tee and the steep out-of-bounds hillside on the entire left side of the fairway). A water hazard and a forest await your next two shots. Suddenly, this nice public course becomes not so nice. Oahu residents can't get enough of it, so don't even try to get a tee time on weekends. Stick to weekdays -- Mondays are usually the best bet. Facilities include a driving range, practice greens, club rental, pro shop, and restaurant.
Turtle Bay Resort
This North Shore resort is home to two of Hawaii's top golf courses. The 18-hole Arnold Palmer Course (formerly the Links at Kuilima) was designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay. Turtle Bay used to be labeled a "wind tunnel"; it still is one, though the casuarina (ironwood) trees have matured and dampened the wind somewhat. But Palmer and Seay never meant for golfers to get off too easy; this is a challenging course. The front nine, with rolling terrain, only a few trees, and lots of wind, play like a British Isles course. The back nine have narrower, tree-lined fairways and water. The course circles Punahoolapa Marsh, a protected wetland for endangered Hawaiian waterfowl.Another option is the George Fazio Course -- the only one Fazio designed in Hawaii -- a par-71, 6,200-yard course. Larry Keil, pro at Turtle Bay, says that people like the Fazio course because it's more of a forgiving resort course, without the water hazards and bunkers of the more challenging Palmer course. The sixth hole has two greens so you can play the hole as a par-3 or a par-4. The toughest hole has to be the par-3, 176-yard second hole, where you tee off across a lake with the trade winds creating a mean crosswind. The most scenic hole is the seventh, where the ocean is on your left; if you're lucky, you'll see whales cavorting in the winter months. Facilities include a pro shop, driving range, putting and chipping green, and snack bar. Weekdays are best for tee times.
Bishop Museum Collection at the Hawaiian Arts & Culture Center at the Hilton Hawaiian Village
Now in Waikiki, this "mini" version of the Bishop Museum is just right for visitors who want to get an insider's view of Hawaiian culture but are pressed for time. Located in the Kalia Tower of the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa, the Bishop Museum at Kalia features cultural interpreters to walk you through the story of life in Waikiki from ancient times to today. Allow at least an hour (an hour and a half would be better). You can participate in a variety of interactive, hands-on-activities, like lei making, weaving cordage from coconut fibers, pounding kapa into cloth, learning the basic motions of the hula or trying your hand at playing a Hawaiian instrument like the pahu (shark skin drum), ohe hano ihu (nose flute), or uli uli (feathered gourd rattle). As you move from ancient times into the arrival of the missionaries, the royal monarchy, and into Waikiki of the 20th century (with great old surfing movies), you will be amazed at how time flies. Not to be missed!

Beautiful Home of Princess Kaiulani

Anonymous, 2006-12-14

Across the street is the Sheraton Moana and High Tea there each day is a wonderful experience. It is my favorite place to spend a wonderful afternoon.

Just staying at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani brings you close to one of the last families of Hawaiian Royalty. For myself, I am very familiar with Ainahou, the home of Princess Kaiulani. Staying at the Princess Kaiulani reminds me of the movie, Somewhere in Time with the late Chris Reeve. It is always a wonderful and convinient place to stay.

Excellent value

Michael, San Juan, 2006-07-13

There is quick access to the main street and the International Market Place from the back of the hotel.

The room had a very good aspect and looked out over the International Market Place and also the beach could be seen from the balcony. The room has comfortable beds and a good sized bathroom. The car could be packed near the lift well for the room. The was very convenient. Also it is easy to leave the area when travelling to other parts of the island. Parking the car was not a problem either. The hotel is close to the beach, many food outlets and restaurants. It is very good value for money.

good location

Gail, New York, NY, 2006-07-01

restaurants, shopping, and the local supermarket and the beach and other hotels are all within a short walk. Its a block for the local bus, so its very convenient. Its one of the best features of this hotel.

Overall, the hotel is nice and clean. However, the housekeeping staff could do a better job in cleaning. There was a bottle cap near the window that stayed there the entire time including a piece of paper. The faucets were never cleaned. The hotel could use some updating to include a coat of paint. It is still a very nice hotel and I would consider it again.

Across the Street from the Action

Jasmin, West Palm Beach, FL, 2006-06-24

Great Buffet, with three story fish tank, two short blocks away!

Nice Facility...however there is still NO elevator in the five story Garage. And there is no fitness facility on site. Great room service, 12 minutes flat and excellent food. Excellent morning and evening Buffets. Great on site entertainment by the pool, or from your balcony.

Good value

Anonymous, Los Angeles, CA, 2006-06-04

Shopping and dining of extensive range was starting in the hotel, right next to the hotel and all within a few blocks from the hotel.

Clean and functional. All normal ammentities were very good. The staff was outstanding. Only drawback in the cityview category was the back parking lot view with truck noises from our balcony. Comfort of the room was rated only good because the air conditioner had only an on/off control and I saw no other temperature controls.

pretty small

christopher, Chicago, IL, 2006-05-23

The location of the Hotel was very good a lot of shops and restaruants. The hotel was located just across the street to the beach.

I stayed at the Sheriton Princes, although the guest were nice, the pool area was adiquate, it seamed that they have let the outside area go down hill. The view they call out is very partcial to the beach, infact its pretty much worthless. The great advantage to this is that you can use all the other Sheritons with the room stay and that was nice, the Sheriton across the road was very nice and right on the beach. I would not book this hotel again if I went back.

not that great

Lynn, Salt Lake City, UT, 2006-05-21

Get a philly cheesesteak at Ono's. I grew up in Philly and it's the real thing right down to the amoroso rolls flown in from phila.

The hotel was in a great area. Very close to great Waikiki beaches and shopping. The entrance and pool were both very nice, but we were disappointed with the room. It was too small, needed to be remodeled, and smelled funny. It smelled moldy. But the pillows were very comfortable. And we didn't spend very much time in the room, so it didn't ruin our vacation. If I visit the area again, I would spend more money for a nicer hotel.
