During your Honolulu vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Puu o Mahuka Heiau
Go around sundown to feel the mana (sacred spirit) of this Hawaiian place. The largest sacrificial temple on Oahu, it's associated with the great Kaopulupulu, who sought peace between Oahu and Kauai. This prescient kahuna predicted that the island would be overrun by strangers from a distant land. In 1794, three of Captain George Vancouver's men of the Daedalus were sacrificed here. In 1819, the year before New England missionaries landed in Hawaii, King Kamehameha II ordered all idols here to be destroyed.A national historic landmark, this 18th-century heiau, known as the "hill of escape," sits on a 5-acre, 300-foot bluff overlooking Waimea Bay and 25 miles of Oahu's wave-lashed North Coast -- all the way to Kaena Point, where the Waianae Range ends in a spirit leap to the other world. The heiau appears as a huge rectangle of rocks twice as big as a football field (170 ft. by 575 ft.), with an altar often covered by the flower and fruit offerings left by native Hawaiians.
Foster Botanical Garden
You could spend days in this unique and historic garden, a leafy oasis amid the high-rises of downtown Honolulu, but your schedule will probably only allow a couple of hours. Combine a tour of the Garden with a trip to Chinatown (just across the street) to maximize your time. The giant trees that tower over the main terrace were planted in the 1850s by William Hillebrand, a German physician and botanist, on royal land leased from Queen Emma. Today, this 14-acre public garden, on the north side of Chinatown, is a living museum of plants, some rare and endangered, collected from the tropical regions of the world. Of special interest are 26 "Exceptional Trees" protected by state law, a large palm collection, a primitive cycad garden, and a hybrid orchid collection.
Hawaii Country Club
This public course, located in Wahiawa, is a modest course where golfers usually have no trouble getting a tee time. The 5,861-yard, par-71 course is not manicured like the resort courses, but it does offer fair play, with relatively inexpensive greens fees. Located in the middle of former sugarcane and pineapple fields, the greens and fairways tend to be a bit bumpy and there are a number of tall monkeypod and pine trees to shoot around, but the views of Pearl Harbor and Waikiki in the distance are spectacular. There are a few challenging holes, like the seventh (a 252-yard, par-4), which has a lake in the middle of the fairway and slim pickings on either side. With the wind usually blowing in your face, most golfers choose an iron to lay up short of the water and then pitch it over for par. Facilities include a driving range, practice greens, club rental pro shop, and restaurant.

Oh, so,nice and pleasurable

The Regency Hyatt was a luxury feel in itself. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and quiet. The meals were great and also the drinks at the (Elegant Dive). The help was very friendly and helpful in answering questions about activies we wanted to know about. The shopping was great and we enjoyed our stay immensely. Our room was also easy to find. Our continental breakfast was excellent each morning and made our sightseeing easier as we didn't have to find a restaurant each morning to dine at. The location was right across from Waikiki Beach and within walking distance from many restaurants, shopping, and sights to visit.

Great for the money

Anonymous, Los Angeles, CA

Paradise Cove is one of the island attractions that was a very fun experience.

This hotel was fantastic. The staff was very polite and nice and the breakfast buffet was delicious. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else when I go back. Our view of the ocean was spectacular. The beach was literally across the street. Walking distance to shops, restaurants and clubs. I had an awesome time.

Superb!!

Jacqueline, Philadelphia, PA

The little snack place called Le Jardin near the waterfall in the Hyatt had great fruit smoothies and also sold real leis very reasonably priced. The Guest Services was great in arranging for our rental car for one day, had good maps and explained directions for you very precisely.

We could ask for nothing more at the Hyatt!! Every need anticipated (they even had postcard stamps at the front desk, including 75 cent international stamps for a postcard to Australia.) The Na-Ho Ole Spa was spectacular for my therapeutic massage. The breakfast buffet ($24 but included in our room charge) was indescribable! The convenient ABC Stores had anything you would need. The pool was wonderful (when we weren't on Waikiki Beach) and the pool waitress, brought us those yummy Mai Tais every day. If I go back to Hawaii again, I will stay no where else except the Hyatt Regency!! I told the lobby clerk my only complaint was that the sun didn't come up until 7 a.m. With the time difference we woke up at 5:30 every morning and were raring to go.

very nice hotel on beach

Don, Seattle, WA, 2007-03-11

Dont forget to shop at the ABC stores that are everywhere in Waikiki.

The Hyatt Regency Waikiki was very close to the beach. This is what we wanted for the first time in Honolulu and we werent dissapointed. The accomadations were excellent as well as the free $25 breakfast every morning of fresh fruit and Kona Coffee. The hotel was close to shopping everywhere and all the Sushi Bars you could handle. The food was a little salty but the Hotel was very nice and I would recommend it to anyone.

Family vacation

Nicholas, Minneapolis, MN, 2007-03-10

This hotel is in the center of Waikiki and all entertainment in the other hotels and night spots is a very short walk.

We enjoyed the hotel very much and the location was ideal for us as our college age son was with us and wanted to be near the action of Waikiki. We lived in Honolulu for 16 years and are very familiar with the various hotel properties and the activities of Waikiki. I feel the cost of the rooms were a little high but on balance feel we received fair value for our money. The hotel was very helpful in allowing us to have a late check out on our final day because we had a late evening flight back to the mainland. Although the parking ramp is a little tough to navigate, it is well located and reasonably priced. We also enjoyed the buffet breakfast that was included in our room charge. On Sun morning we went to the Willows for brunch and the cost was $160 for 4 of us, compared to the breakfast included at the hotel.

Great Location

Eva, Las Vegas, NV, 2007-02-15

The beach is across the street.

One minute from the beach, excellent food choices and shopping. The only thing we didn't like about the hotel was the walls were very thin and we could here our neighbors in nearby rooms.

Great Vacation

Robert, Las Vegas, NV, 2007-02-15

The beach is across the street.

The staff was awesome from the start, changing our assigned room right after check in to meet our needs. The mountain view was beautiful and the trip to the beach takes minutes, even from the upper floors. The room was nice and roomy with a great balcony. The only downside was that noise from the hall could be heard in the room but that was very infrequent. We spent a week there and could have easily not left the hotel except to cross the street and hit the beach. There a great restaurants in and around the hotel within walking distance.

Well Done with a number of shops

Wallace, Richmond, VA, 2007-02-03

The beach is just outside the door and across the street.

The cleanliness and professionalism was everything I expected. Having many different shops within the the hotel area was a plus I did not expect. The variety of eatries was plesantly surprising and ranged from very nice to elegant.
