During your Honolulu vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Kawaiahao Church
In 1842, Kawaiahao Church stood complete at last, the crowning achievement of missionaries and Hawaiians working together for the first time on a common project. Designed by Rev. Hiram Bingham and supervised by Kamehameha III, who ordered his people to help build it, the project took 5 years. Workers quarried 14,000 thousand-pound coral blocks from the offshore reefs and cut timber in the forests for the beams. This proud stone church, complete with bell tower and colonial colonnade, was the first permanent Western house of worship in the islands. It became the church of the Hawaiian royalty and remains in use today by Hawaiians who conduct services in the Hawaiian language (which probably sets old Rev. Bingham spinning in his grave). Some fine portraits of Hawaiian royalty hang inside. We'd recommend the best time to see this edifice is at the Hawaiian-language services, conducted on Sundays at 10:30am.
Sea Life Park
This 62-acre ocean theme park, located in East Oahu, is one of the island's top attractions. It features whales from Puget Sound, Atlantic bottle-nosed dolphins, California sea lions, and penguins going through their hoops to the delight of kids of all ages. If you have kids, allow all day to take in the sights. There's also a Hawaiian reef tank full of tropical fish; a "touch" pool, where you can touch a real sea cucumber (commonly found in tide pools); and a bird sanctuary, where you can see birds like the red-footed booby and the frigate bird. The chief curiosity, though, is the world's only "wholphin" -- a cross between a false killer whale and an Atlantic bottle-nosed dolphin. On-site, marine biologists operate a recovery center for endangered marine life; during your visit, you'll be able to see rehabilitated Hawaiian monk seals and seabirds.
Navatek I
You've never been on a boat, you don't want to be on a boat, but here you are being dragged aboard one. Why are you boarding this weird-looking vessel? It guarantees that you'll be "seasick-free," that's why. The 140-foot-long Navatek I isn't even called a boat; it's actually a SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) vessel. That means the ship's superstructure -- the part you ride on -- rests on twin torpedo-like hulls that cut through the water so you don't bob like a cork and spill your mai tai. It's the smoothest ride on Mamala Bay. In fact, Navatek I is the only dinner cruise ship to receive U.S. Coast Guard certification to travel beyond Diamond Head.Sunset dinner cruises leave Pier 6 (across from the Hawaii Maritime Museum) nightly. If you have your heart set on seeing the city lights, take the royal Sunset Dinner Cruise, which runs from 5:15 to 7:15pm. The best deal is the lunch cruise, with full buffet lunch and a great view of Oahu offshore. During the whale season (roughly Dec-Apr), you get whales to boot. The lunch cruise lasts from 11:30am to 2pm. Both cruises include live Hawaiian music.

Kevin, Honolulu, HI

we were leaving the next day to go to Kona so we basically just slept then ate breakfast then went the the airport. They have a very reliable airport shuttle service.

3Cs: Convenient, clean, comfortable

Anonymous, 2007-03-06

The Honolulu Airport is nearby. Hotel has a free shuttle bus service to and from airport.

The Honolulu Airport Hotel was very clean, hotel staff was courteous and friendly, bed and pillows were good, rooms were quiet. My stay at this hotel was most satisfying. I would come back again. Very convenient to the airport. There was a small fridge, microwave, coffee maker in the room. There were vending machines down the hall that contained food items (sandwiches, microwaveable products, etc.). All very convenient. Highly recommended for its convenience to the airport (free shuttle, wake up calls, etc.), but also a very decent and clean hotel. (I booked at this hotel primarily for its proximity to the Honolulu airport as I had a connecting flight the next morning.)

Room for Improvment

dennis, 2007-02-13

Hotel room had been refurbished but quality was just not there. Very basic room. Room was very noisy due to several dumpsters locate outside which were emptied by noisy trucks at 5 A.M. Restaurant was closed except for breakfast. Convenient hotel if you need a stopover for a connecting flight, which was what we needed.

The swap meet at Aloha Stadium is great for all kinds of gifts, and souveneirs

The Honolulu Airport Hotel was a good choice. Clean, affordable, great location, & EARLY CHECK-IN (about 10am!) Although, not that much drawer space, we managed. Big pool.

PLACE TO SPEND THE NIGHT

Anonymous, 2007-02-10

PLACE TO SPEND THE NIGHT IF YOU ARE FLYING OUT OF HONOLULU AND THEY DO PROVIDE FREE AIRPORT TRANSPORT EVERY HALF AND HOUR

WE HAD TO SPEND THE NIGHT AFTER A LONG PLANE FLIGHT, I WOULD NEVER STAY THERE FOR MORE THAN A NIGHT. THE ROOM WAS NOT VERY CLEAN, WE WERE GIVEN A PASS CARD TO WORK THE ELEVATOR TO THE THIRD FLOOR WHICH DID NOT WORK, LUCKLY OTHER PEOPLE WERE GOING UP AT THE TIME. OUR ROOM CARD DID WORK. WE HAD PROBLEMS CALLING THE HOTEL FROM THE AIRPORT FOR THERE PICKUP BECAUSE THE PHONE NUMBER ON THE AIRPORT BOARD WAS NOT CORRECT. WHEN WE DID CONTACT THE HOTEL THE GIRL GAVE US POOR INSTRUCTIONS AS TO WHERE THE VAN WOULD BE AND WE SPENT MORE TIME ASKING FOR DIRECTIONS FROM PASSER BYERS.

good location but...

Very close to the airport

Location is fantastic being very close to the airport making it convenient to fly in and out of the island. But quality of facilities including room amenities are somewhat desirable. Hotel pick-up service to and from the airport is good but other than that, the hotel service does not really exist in my opinion. Rooms are overpriced in general.

Very disappointing

Felicito, 2006-09-26

My unpleasnat experience started at the airport. I called for the shuttle and was told that it would take 15 to 20 minutes. It took at least 45 minutes. The driver was nice and told us that HNL Airport Hotel did not have any drivers that night. The hotel was old and dirty. You could tell that the carpet in the hallway and in the room needed major repair if not total replacement. The bathroom was not kept well. The toilet paper was on its last few rolls. I was glad we were only staying there for a few hours that night. One good note: the shuttle the following morning was on time.

Good location near airport

Anonymous, Vancouver, BC, 2006-08-07

Hotel lobby looked good but once you pass that area - it's all down hill. BAD: Dirty carpets, dark & poorly air conditioned halls,Rooms were a little small but enough space, wall paper coming off the walls, splatter (food residue, spit & dirt)on walls needed cleaning. GOOD: Very close to the airport. Free Wireless internet (but only in lobby area).

Good for one night stays

kelly, Philadelphia, PA, 2006-06-10

Honolulu Airport Hotel was just okay. They have a sister hotel - a Best Western - where you can go and eat, but it is a five minute walk. This appeared to be our only option other than fast food or a $30 + cab ride down to Waikiki. They did have vending machines and a hotel gift shop that sold drinks as well as some chips. We were grateful for this b/c the restaurant was closed again the next day, there was a sign up to go to the Best Western again, we opted not to considering their food was about as good as a high-school cafeteria. The hotel did have a nice pool area and the room was quaint with a small refrigerator. I only stayed there based on the time we got into Honolulu and the time we were flying out to Kona the next day. I would recommend someone staying for one night because it was only a short drive to the airport and they did provide a shuttle service - free of charge.
