During your Honolulu vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
U.S. Army Museum
This museum, built in 1909 and used in defense of Honolulu and Pearl Harbor, houses military memorabilia ranging from ancient Hawaiian warfare items to modern-day high-tech munitions. On the upper deck, the Corps of Engineers Pacific Regional Visitors Center shows how the corps works with the civilian community to manage water resources in an island environment. Plan to spend an hour perusing the place.
Diamond Head
The 360-degree view from atop Diamond Head Crater is worth the 560-foot ascent and is not to be missed. You can see all the way from the Koko Crater to Barbers Point and the Waianae Mountains. The 750-foot-tall volcano, which has become the symbol for Hawaii, is about 350,000 years old. The trail to the summit was built in 1910 to service the military installation along the crater; it's about a 30-minute hike to the top, but it's quite manageable by anyone of any age. Diamond Head has always been considered a "sacred sight" by Hawaiians. According to legend, Hi'iaka, the sister to the volcano goddess Pele, named the mountain Leahi (meaning the "brow of the ahi") when she saw the resemblance to the yellowfin tuna (called "ahi" in Hawaiian). Kamehameha the Great built a "luakini heiau" on the top where human sacrifices were made to the god of war, Ku.The name Diamond Head came into use around 1825 when a group of British sailors (some say they were slightly inebriated) found some rocks sparkling in the sun. Absolutely sure they had struck it rich, the sailors brought these "diamonds" back into Honolulu. Alas, the "diamonds" turned out to be calcite crystals. The sailors didn't become fabulously rich, but the name Diamond Head stuck.
Honolulu Academy of Arts
This acclaimed museum unveiled its new $28-million Henry R. Luce Pavilion Complex in May 2001, and wowed the state with its new exhibition space, courtyard, expanded outdoor cafe, and gift shop. A magnificent facility got even better, as two 4,000-square-foot galleries were added to the existing 30, and the John Dominis and Patches Damon Holt Gallery displayed the museum's Hawaii regional collection in one space for the first time. Considered Hawaii's premier example of kamaaina- (old-timer-) style architecture, the Academy is the state's only general fine-arts museum and has expanded steadily over the last decade. It boasts one of the top Asian art collections in the country, including James Michener's collection of Hiroshige's Ukiyo-e prints. Also on exhibit are American and European masters and prehistoric works of Maya, Greek, and Hawaiian art. The museum's award-winning architecture is a paragon of graciousness, featuring magnificent courtyards, lily ponds, and sensitively designed galleries. Spend a few hours or linger for a day here.

international marketplace is great for Hawaiian clothing & gifts, it is acroo the street from the sheraton surfrider moana, a beautiful old victorian hotel from 1901. the deeper you go in thie market the better the values & chioces. there are many dining options in the area but it is close to a mile from the hilton,

the hilton was not well located for anyone wishing easy access to other hotels and shopping areas, it did have shopping on the grounds but it was well over priced in comparison to waikiki itself- which was a good 3/4 mile trolley ride or walk. I disappionted with the total lack of a hot tub for anyone not in the 2 new towers, and they even charge extra for the safe in your room! I went to the hilton anticipating a certain level of comfort & convenience-not to be nikeled & dimed to bits, I have been to Hawaii on 4 previous trips and expected a higher standard at the hilton but did not find it there, the room was nice, comfortable and the housekeeping staff were most courteous.

Location, Location, Location

The shopping mall was a short walk from the hotel.

The Hilton Hawaiian Village had a beautiful layout. It was kept clean around all the grounds. There were many places to dine, shop, and drink. The "village" had everything needed to complete your vacation/business stay including a little market, however, the location was perfect if you wanted to tour the island. There was a shopping area with amazing food and great hawaiian shops at the bottom of the elevator.

My review of Hilton Hawaiian Village'

Anonymous

The beach was a stone's throw away. The Friday night show was impressive. The shopping was within walking distance.

The Hilton Hawaiian Village was a pleasureable experience. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The Beach was easily acessable and there were plenty of restaurants both on the Hotel property and adjacent to it to meet anyone taste.

Great Hotel, too much Hype

Anonymous, 2007-03-03

The Chart house was a great find within walking distance for good food and nice local bands

In any other place this would be considered a top notch hotel: good theme, multiple restaurants etc. But for the price tag and where it was located I expected a bit more. Really one one Hotel pool, social aspects essentially close down at 6:00 pm etc

LOTS AND LOTS OF SHOPPING!! AND LOTS OF WONDERFUL FOOD EVERYTHING A SO CLOSE

THE SERVICE WAS WONDERFUL AND I HAD A WONDERFUL TIME AT THE HILTON IN HONALULU. THE ONLY CONPLAINT I HAVE, I DONT THINK IT'S FAIR WE HAVE TO PAY 20 DOLLORS A DAY FOR PARKING. NO ONE EXPLAINED THIS TO ME ON THE CHECK IN DATE. OTHER THAN THAT THE EXPERIENCE WAS GREAT!!

Ideal location and it had everything and more, loved it we would go back again!

Rodney, Johnson City, NY, 2007-02-18

From the moment we arrived until the day we departed we were treated like a king and queen. The room was beautiful, clean and had a great view with comfortable seating on the balcony. The location of the Hilton Hawaiian Village is perfect and is like a piece of the Hawaiian paradise within the hotel itself. We highly recommend it to everyone planning a vacation to Hawaii. Aloha!

The cafe in the village has great breakfast.

My stay at the Hilton Hawaiin Village was awesome. From check in, to check out, the experience was great. The room was comfertable. It was a great location. There are meny shops, and resturants on the property, and the beach lagoon is right out the back of the hotel. Many other attractions are within a short walk, and the staff at the Hilton were incredible. I cant wait to return, for my next stay!

excellent resort atmosphere

CHARLES, Cincinnati, OH, 2007-02-11

The Waikii strip is a short walk (20 minutes) or a $2.00 bus ride away. Much better bargains thab can be found at the hotel are available on the strip.

The Hilton Hawaiian Village is a complete resort experience. It has everything I ahve come to expect from a resort with a few exceptions. For example, no alcoholic beverages on the beach seems a little strange since it's sold at the beach bar. Also, to run out of beach chairs on a cool day is inexcusable (almost as bad as the onerous prices charged for the beach chairs and umbrellas). The resort also offers a complimentary room (for 40 minutes) for showering/changing for people who have late flights from Hawaii. It's a nice gesture even 40minutes is a little short.
