During your Honolulu vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Turtle Bay Resort
This North Shore resort is home to two of Hawaii's top golf courses. The 18-hole Arnold Palmer Course (formerly the Links at Kuilima) was designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay. Turtle Bay used to be labeled a "wind tunnel"; it still is one, though the casuarina (ironwood) trees have matured and dampened the wind somewhat. But Palmer and Seay never meant for golfers to get off too easy; this is a challenging course. The front nine, with rolling terrain, only a few trees, and lots of wind, play like a British Isles course. The back nine have narrower, tree-lined fairways and water. The course circles Punahoolapa Marsh, a protected wetland for endangered Hawaiian waterfowl.Another option is the George Fazio Course -- the only one Fazio designed in Hawaii -- a par-71, 6,200-yard course. Larry Keil, pro at Turtle Bay, says that people like the Fazio course because it's more of a forgiving resort course, without the water hazards and bunkers of the more challenging Palmer course. The sixth hole has two greens so you can play the hole as a par-3 or a par-4. The toughest hole has to be the par-3, 176-yard second hole, where you tee off across a lake with the trade winds creating a mean crosswind. The most scenic hole is the seventh, where the ocean is on your left; if you're lucky, you'll see whales cavorting in the winter months. Facilities include a pro shop, driving range, putting and chipping green, and snack bar. Weekdays are best for tee times.
Waimea Falls Park
If you have only a day to spend on Oahu and want to see an ancient hula, sniff tropical flowers, go kayaking along the shore, hike to archaeological sites and a waterfall, and play the games of ancient Hawaii (such as spear throwing and lawn bowling), there's only one place to be: Waimea Falls Park. This is the perfect family place. You can also explore remnants of the old Hawaiian settlements in a scenic 1,800-acre river valley that's full of tropical blooms; watch authentic demonstrations of the ancient hula by the park's own halau (school); and see cliff divers swan-dive into a pool fed by a 45-foot waterfall. Other activities include riding a mountain bike, paddling a kayak, and walking along the Elehaha River into the jungle.
Valley of the Temples
This famous cemetery in a cleft of the pali is stalked by wild peacocks and about 700 curious people a day, who pay to see the 9-foot meditation Buddha, 2 acres of ponds full of more than 10,000 Japanese koi carp, and a replica of Japan's 900-year-old Byodo in the Temple of Equality. The original, made of wood, stands in Uji, on the outskirts of Kyoto; the Hawaiian version, made of concrete, was erected in 1968 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii. It's not the same as seeing the original, but it's worth a detour. A 3-ton brass temple bell brings good luck to those who can ring it -- although the gongs do jar the Zen-like serenity of this little bit of Japan. If you are in a rush, you can sail through here in an hour, but you'll want to stay longer.

Wonderful staff

cynthia, Ontario, CA

You are within walking distance of the World Market Place and if you don't mind walking a little further, the Galleria Center. Public trans. is everywhere, but taxies can be pricey. LuLu's is right around the corner with a spectacular ocean view and Cheeseburger in Paradise is a great place. Surfing lessons are right there on the beach.

The staff at the Ocean Towers were friendly and addressed any concerns I had with genuine care and concern. The hotel itself is currently stuck in the 70's but is undergoing renovations to bring it up to a 4 Star hotel. There currently is no reasturant on site, but plenty to eat within a very short walking distance. I recommend LULU's for breakfast!!! The renovations are a bit noisy, but when you are in Hawaii, you shouldn't be spending alot of time in your room anyway. The hotel will be fantastic when renovations are complete!!! You are 1/2 a block from the beach and the excursion pick up spots are next to the Ocean Towers. The value nd convienience make the noise from the renavations acceptable. Aloha!!

The StaFF Makes this a Great Place

Robert, Los Angeles, CA, 2006-11-05

The location is the best for all of the tour pick ups are right there. Beach is less than a block away. 24 hour fitness around the corner, ABC store right next door. close to cheap parking, walking distance from also everywhere including the Zoo, Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach, Shopping, Dining, and Party central.

The Aqua Ocean Tower is a nice little hotel. There no No Amenities ecept for a small Contintal breakfast. The rooms are small If you are lucky you will get a room with a great view. I have to tell you This hotel has the best staff of any place I have ever stayed. There was nothing they would not do to please the guest. The are remodeling and I was able to see the new rooms and I think they are going to be real nice. I hope they get more amenities (pool, spa, room servise) The location is the best for all of the tour pick ups are right there. Beach is less than a block away. 24 hour fitness around the corner, ABC store right next door. close to cheap parking, walking distance from also everywhere including the Zoo, Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach, Shopping, Dining, and Party central. For the rooms I may not stay but for the service and the people I would go back in a heartbeat

Good value for the price

Linda, Minneapolis, MN, 2006-10-22

Wiakki

This was an extremely customer friendly hotel. They went out there way to meet my needs. They have limited parking and went out of their way to help with that inspite of our very late arrival. The head of housekeeping at the hotel was very accomodating and made us feel very welcome. I would definitely stay there again. It is an old hotel but reasonably well mantained, clean, comfortable beds. It is an excellent value.

Good Value

Very friendly staff. I was there on business just for a night so didn't need all of the extra amenities, but it had what I needed; wireless internet in my room and a great cup of coffee in the morning. Good value hotel.

Great experience!!!

Danka, Seattle, WA, 2006-09-15

Waikiki beach is just a few steps away. Starbucks too! Plenty of ABC stores, cafes and restaurants.

The hotel is very close to the beaches, staff is very, very friendly and helpful, rooms are clean, bright, our room had a balcony and an ocean view - for the price we paid - it was just unforgettable!!! They don't have a restaurant, but the breakfast included in the price, and this was just great. For couples or singles without children it is excellent choice!

Great location

Anonymous, San Francisco, CA, 2006-08-18

Hans Hedemann Surf School is right around the corner, and a great place to take a surfing lesson or rent a board. You will not find nicer people anywhere else in Waikiki.

The Aqua Ocean Tower has an excellent location, only half a block from the beach on the south end of Waikiki. You can easily walk to any Waikiki location, including restaurants and shopping. Room size was adequate but outdated, and it wasn't as clean as we would have preferred. You can easily hear the people in the next rooms, as well as in the room above, so earplugs are recommended for light sleepers. There is free wireless internet, but it isn't accessible above the fourth floor, so most people used the lobby area to go online. The staff is great, friendly and accomodating. Parking is limited and a little pricey at $15.00 per night.

Hotel is a Dive

Anonymous, 2006-07-24

ABC mini mart across the street has anything you need

This hotel missed the boat in so many areas. When you walk into the lobby, you see a nice updated look with warm wood tones, modern furniture etc., then you go up to your floor where the updates and ammenites end. I stayed on the 4th floor (next to the elevator) which is painted a hospital type green with large flourescent striplights bolted to the wall, there was no air conditioning in the hall so it feels like it is over a hundred degrees when you get out of the elevator, and when you try to catch this elevator back down to the lobby, you have to hold onto the button to get it to stop on your floor. When I opened the front door of the hotel room I felt like I was going into my closet at home. There was only room for one night stand by the bed and on the second day for some reason, they put in a larger bed (leaving the smaller headboard), which made the room seem even smaller. With wallpaper peeling up in the entry way and bathroom, patched holes in the wall and general dingy feel of the harvest gold carpet and drapes, I would say it is time to update these rooms. What really annoyed me, is when I asked them two days in a row to have housekeeping disinfect the bathroom to get rid of the faint smell of body odor or urine or whatever it was, the maid would just open the window in the bathroom leaving the smell. On the third day when I tried to checkout, the girl at the desk insisted on getting the manager who made me wait at the desk while he went up to the room. When the manager came back down, he proceeded to argue with me about the smell while a line of people stacked up behind me, finally I just told him that I am not asking for a refund, all I want is to get out of this hotel. I am not sure what it smells like in his house, but it was unacceptable to me. One more thing, the free internet is not in your room it is down in the lobby (which is not air conditioned) and if you expect to take advantage of the free breakfast you will have to wait until 8am to do it which is after the shuttles leave.
