Hilo Seaside Hotel

126 Banyan Drive , Hilo, HI 96720
"Where Paradise Doesn't Have to Cost A Fortune". The Hilo Seaside Hotel is one of the nearest hotels to the Volcano National Park, located on the shores of Hilo Bay, on historical Banyan Drive. This Hawaiian owned hotel is surrounded by Hawaiian and Japanese Gardens. The Hilo Seaside Hotel is a favorite with our local people.

Quick Tip! For travelers arriving at the Kona International Airport at Keahole, Hilo is located on the east side of the Big Island, approximately 94 miles and a scenic two hour drive away. Resort areas and small country towns along the drive will provide shopping and dining experiences.

I was very happy with my stay at Hilo Seaside

Nia, Seattle, WA

Hilo Seaside was close to just about everything I needed. Short drive to an exquisite farmers market, the ocean, grocery store, shopping. I love banyan drive. Just BEAUTIFUL. I love Hilo. Everything was just so perfectly close but not too close you feel crammed but you didnt have to drive forever to get something or see something neat.

I enjoyed my stay here very much. The gals made sure I always had clean towels and even brought me extra without me asking! Kudos! It was overall very nice to stay, no one bothers you. Very peaceful place with very hospitable staff. I felt more at home and at ease here than home itself! I would love to stay here again. I loved the rain too. It was an experience I will definitely cherish and I think the people of Hilo are absolutely wonderful. I missed it before I even left.

Great Restraunt

David, Seattle, WA, 2006-10-17

The fish pond was beautiful, I took lots of pictures of it.

We didn't care for the room we were given. It was right next to the highway. The plug-in in the bathroom did not work, we almost got shocked turning on the light switch when we came in. We couldn't find the light switch for the bathroom when we first came in (it was in the living room). The swimming pool was not in use at the time. So we checked out and went and stayed the next nine days at another hotel.

There's a great pancake house right around the corner.

Friendly staff

Numerous places to eat in town. Suggest; Cafe Pesto.

The hotel is very outdated and parking is somewhat of a challenge. However, the staff were friendly and the restaurant serves a great breakfast.

nearby open-24-hours diner, great for when you're hungry at night and everything else is closed!

A Bit Rundown

Anonymous, 2006-08-30

Ken's House of Pancakes is a Hilo institution. Be sure to get breakfast there at least once.

The room we stayed in at the Hilo Seaside Hotel was somewhat rundown. The Superior Garden room seemed cramped with two beds inside. The bathroom was clean, but also showing signs of wear. The garden view from our window was nice, but being on the ground floor with the window facing a walkway meant that we heard every bit of conversation and the sounds of luggage being dragged by as people came and went. The location was good: it was easy to drive from the hotel to anywhere in Hilo and there are a couple of restaurants within walking distance.

Nice location

Cheryl, Los Angeles, CA, 2006-08-02

Ocean/freshwater area for swimming directly across the street from the hotel. Beaches nearby. Downtown area only a mile or so away.

I loved the location, very easy in and out. Plenty of parking. Hotel desk staff very friendly and helpful. Room was nice. Convenient to have a small refrigerator in the room. 2 chairs outside the front door, made it nice to read the paper outside in the morning. We will stay at this hotel again.

Lacking in basic comfort

Dennis, 2006-03-20

The bay across the street is pretty. Nice view out to sea. Lots of teens and children swimming in the channel across the street. That looked like fun. And it is on Banyan drive with some stately old dress. Cant beat the lush tropical vegetaion.

When I checked in the hotel clerk did not return my driver license which I presented for identification. I did not notice that the license was not returned with the credit card.I believed for two days I had lost my ID. I checked message alerts flahsing on the room phone and the hotel staff asked for my credit card three times, even though it was properly processed upon my arrival. The clerks, three in a row, failed to communicate between themselves that I had already responded to their request. During this process, no one communicated to me that the hotel was holding my ID. No one told me that my license was in the message box until the third day. As for the rooms, the windows do not close properly. Since there is a lot of rain in Hilo, this meant that there was dampness in the room, and in my clothing all five days I stayed at the hotel. The noise level is loud. Do you really want to know what all the other guests are doing at 2:00 a.m.? With those windows you cannot shut out any sound. The room was dreary and cheerless. Not worth saving 10 dollars a night. Rooms are very small, decorations are dreary, the beds are uncomfortable and the staff do not communicate well. When people speak of old Hawaii in relation to this hotel, they mean literally "OLD" and worn out, not charming. There are beautiful plants, palms, and flowers in the courtyards and a lovely fish pond. The courtyard was more comfortable than the room. Instead of staying at the Seaside, take a stroll around the perimeter, admire the fish, and stroll on down the beach to the next hotel. You will be glad you made that decision.
