You can go to downtown Hilo where you have a variety of shops and small restaurants. Enjoy a nice walk around the park. Just at the entrance of the bay (walking distance), my brother was able to watch the fishing boats bring in the catch of the day.To be honest with you, I had forgotten that Uncle Billy's Restaurant offers a Hawaiian Show, nitely. Although, the meals seemed a little pricey, after I sat down and began to take in the Hawaiian Show, I was very impressed and realized I was in the right place at the right time. Therefore, turned my business trip into a most relaxing and entertaining event. I would highly recommend seeing this show. The food, service, and hospitality of the waitresses was supberb. Score 5 out of 5 Friendly Staff-good location Carla, Sacramento, CA, 2006-10-20 Restaurant and convenience store on locationUncle Billy's was clean, comfortable and the staff are excellent! Score 3 out of 5 needs updating Anonymous, Los Angeles, CA, 2006-09-15 close to the harbor, the park. This hotel needs a lot of updating, the hotel lobby was okay but the rooms are disappointing. The walls could be painted w/ a more vibrant color instead of white. The room did not make me feel like I was vacationing in paradise. The walls are too thin, I could hear the people in the adjoining room talking. Score 5 out of 5 Nice view of the bay Nina, 2006-09-04 Uncle Billy's has a general store on the property and the shopping mall was about 2-3 miles away.Uncle Billy's is a great place to stay for those who are on a budget. Yes, the hotel is somewhat run down, but hey, we didn't come to vacation at the hotel. We came to visit the island. Hilo is quiet the beautiful town, but we found that all the tourist things that we had signed up for began on the Kona side. This made for long drives back and forth, approx. 3 hours one way. The maids came by everyday and cleaned the room. The parking was horrible. Had to park on the street several days, parking lot is to small. Restaurant has a hula show everynight. I would recommend this place to my friends if they want a place to sleep and shower and get up and go the next morning. Score 3 out of 5 Review Anonymous, 2006-07-29 Weekend open market is very good. Fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers are very abundant.Score 4 out of 5 No frills experience Anonymous, 2006-07-21 Not far from volcano national park and the airport. Was a great place to stay for 2 nights didn't spend much time in the room Score 2 out of 5 In the wrong place Anonymous, 2006-07-02 The room itself was clean an spartan. However, there were ants crawling around on top of the dresser most of the time. The beds were a little too hard for any kind of comfort. The fan in the bathroom sounded like a jet taking off. The parking at the hotel is inadequate and you must park out on the street. The first night I got a $35 parking ticket because I didn't see the proper sign in the dark. One week later my rental car was smashed in the parking lot. The patrons in the next room were really drunk one night. We called the desk twice and had security come. Primarily we were there to sleep. We used the pool several times until some local boys moved in and started deliberately soaking the people around the pool. I had to break bad with them and told them if they didn't leave I'd call the cops. I came to know the staff during our 2-week stay and they were very accommodating. They honestly tried their best. Overall though I probably would not stay there again. Score 4 out of 5 Vintage Hotel Anonymous, 2006-03-25 Huge, beautiful park right across the street.Comfortable, modest rooms. Hotel is showing its age but some might call it charming. Gift shop and convenience store is located in the hotel. Resturant has nightly Hawaiian entertainment. Score 2 out of 5 My review of Hilo Bay Hotel (Uncle Billy's Hawaiian Family Resorts) Anonymous, 2006-03-08 nice area to walk stroll. Nice park close by.this is an old, run down hotel. Thin towels, somewhat seedy decor, etc. Air conditioner noise from a next door hotel. it is not far from downtown. Score 5 out of 5 Good Value Anonymous, Honolulu, HI, 2006-02-26 The fish auction is worth the short walk. But it's over at 6:00am, so go early.Uncle Billy's was a clean room at a good price. The staff was helpful and courteous. |
